I'm not sure why our repairing materials are called dark mater instead of "repairing materials". Is this something we're going to learn of in the future?
The reason I have trouble with it is because its connotation in English speaks nothing to what it actually does, and instead means "that other stuff in space that we can't detect or measure".
This just seems off-putting, and to new players must seem equally awkward.
Why is it called dark matter?

The average person knows dark matter in science is basically one of those things physicists invented to explain certain gravitational effects in space and such, in short. It's gotten almost a "cult classic" status as a do all/end all type of material because we actually have no proof it exists. So they used something from real life science that edges on science fiction, with a little spin? Right, FF series has never done that before /sarcasm.

You'll have to check Reinhart's translation thread, but I believe a JP rep said that the reason they used "Dark Matter" is related to the story, and it'll be explained eventually.
