The Hunts Fantasy 14

You need a lot of myth? Do the Hunts.
You need to cap your sold? Do the Hunts.
You need to upgrade your i100 gear? Do the Hunts.

Doing The Hunts COVERS pretty much every thing we desire to obtain in this game.

So, is there any good point doing anything else rather than The Hunts?

I like me some i115 weapons.

Nope, no good point doing anything else. Hunts Hunts and more Hunts, oh and clear Coil once a week. Everything else is pretty useless now because of Hunts. You forgot: Need Alex for Novus? Do the Hunts

To be frank I don't clear T9 yet and now I don't want to practice T9 because of Hunting.

Sigh...........

I like to search out and get the vistas in the sightseeing log, do a little fishing, work on my crafting classes, gather and do peisteskin maps, do dungeons to practice playing alt classes...

Hunt for Turn 9

The worst thing of it all is hunts are boring as hell too. It's just a big RNG if you're lucky enough to be in a group able to find stuff faster than every other group trying for it. :/

Honestly they should have just made it similar to treasure maps where you gotta track it down after you get an item, pop it, and get your stuff after you kill it. I was in my first and only hunt party the other day, and I maybe got some 50-ish seals in some 2+ hours of running around where 90% of my time was teleporting between zones running around blindly. Definitely not doing hunts again till they fix this boring system. Such a boring grind, even more boring and a waste of time than gathering atma.

So they recently "Fixed" hunt mobs with this last little patch. Little good that did imo. These mobs are still getting melted. What makes it works is as you said, return on investment. Unless you are in a really good group, you are gonna spend a lot, A LOT, of time running around and porting to only show up to watch the mobs body disappear. It must really suck for those on PS3 with their load times.

I do hunts here and there while waiting for dailies to reset, but it's not #1 on my to do list.

Unless Hunt Marks become obtainable in some other fashion (and no, I'm not talking about the truly laughable 7 Marks given by the dailies), I (and others like me) will have halted progression until Sands start dropping in Syrcus Tower. I have only ever seen one Mark above B-rank, and as soon as the Horde appeared, the Mark disappeared, and I could no longer see, or target it.

(And yes, before it's brought up, I do already have everything that can be turned off, turned off. "Upgrading" is not an option. Neither is "just do Coil", since my FC is no longer raid-ready, and no, I won't change FCs. There. I think I've covered everything.)

I'm on PS3 too, have the exact same experience. Don't know why; they fixed it so we could see Odin a long time ago, I would think these marks would show, too.

Hunts haven't really changed much, at all. i90 gear and alexandrite are the only things worth noting from the rewards, and only alexandrite is important at this point in the game. You all should keep in mind 2.3 and the odd number patches are the bridge/catchup patches almost, leading into the massive character progression updates such as 2.2.

Yes, I am truly concerned for the life of the game. The rewards for the Hunts are simply too good. They absolutely must be nerfed, or the consequences may be severe.

You do realize one of the rewards from hunting enough is Sands and Oils right? As in do the hunts and you can have as much 110 gear as you care to farm in a week? Hunts have changed everything in the game, why do dungeons or EX's when you can get better rewards from the hunts? Alexandrite is even more worthless from the hunts because if you get a UAT from ST or T8, then you can just farm yourself a sands far faster than you can 75 alexandrite + 75 (assuming you don't fail to the RNG) materia to get yourself a 110 weapon for infinitely less time, effort, and money spent.

I honestly don't see how hunts is even seen as the End All Play All right now. Yes it is fun. Yes I go on hunting sprees. But even if I got 20 oil and 20 sands, I couldn't use them all. I don't have even 40 pieces of gear to upgrade with them. Maybe people do. (40 is just a sample number. But a good sample at that)

I only use hunt seals for alexandrites. It is probably the most economical route in terms of time right now since it gives myth as well so a two birds with one stone approach.

Now, if they uncapped sol tombs, then I could see a problem of "no reason to raid any more" as I too would then spend a bulk of my time hunting since only then would I be able to fully i110 gear up any job I have open, with sol and oil/sand upgrade.

So many inaccuracies with this. Just where do I start?

Is your idea of fun watching a mob blinking every few seconds and becoming untargetable midway thru a fight? Is your idea of fun watching a spamfest of AOEs on the ground? Is your idea of fun watching healers spam medica all day to get healing aggro even though everyone's hp is full? Is your idea of fun watching someone resetting a mob to screw over a solo/player small group who stumbled across the mob? If it is, all the power to you, but the it is definitely a big fat NO for me and many others playing the game.

If you had been diligently capping soldiery since 2.3 hit (you just have to do expert roulette 6 times weekly), you have enough soldiery to buy a full set of weathered gear (full left and right side) and more. I don't really know how to respond to your "20 oil and 20 sands comment" honestly. Do you think 20 sands and 20 oils is a tiny number? Do you know that raiders who have been clearing second coil every week have 2, at most 3 sands/oils in 3 months? And here SE is giving you unlimited sands and oils and you try to make it seem not like a big deal. Do you know it only takes 7 sands and 5 oils to be FULLY decked out in i110, something that less than 1% of the playerbase has before they introduced the hunts? Yet you throw about 20 and 40 sands as if its nothing. You have no idea how coveted sands was before 2.3. Are you f**** kidding me? But if you think about it, the loot handout with hunts has really made the general playerbase think that sands are supposed to be pinatas that drop from the Eorzean sky.

And lastly, if you are using seals for alexandrites, you are doing it wrong. They are probably the least economical unless you tell me you are one of those players that have been farming sands non stop that you have fully decked out your character in i110. It is much much more economical to get a UAT and a sands to get a i110 weapon. But regardless, good hunting sir, I wish I had your patience.

Lawl this crap again!!! 1.0 Final Levequest XIV, 2.0-2.2 Final FATE XIV, 2.2-2.3 Final SpeedFlox XIV, 2.3 Final Hunts XIV... You guys complain about anything new each patch because people are lazy and want the fastest way to achieve it. Then people bitch about the grind saying anything that takes more than a day to complete as bullshit grind. This is pathetic just enjoy the game if you dont like a feature dont do it, they track participation numbers and if a lot of people do an activity it means its supported but who is surprised forums must bitch about something because "exclusivity"

Edit: also people seem to forget frontlines has also caused a decrease in other activities... I know i have been doing them more often then anything else since 2.3. But go on keep blaming hunts for your exclusivity. I dont find it worth my time do to the assholes in the horde wanting exclusivity.

I'm really sorry load times/loading sucks. It sucks on my end too. (PS3 - I've only seen two S rank mobs, yet been present for 10-12) And resetting mobs? Yeah, I've had that happen as well.

My number for oil and sand was exaggerated. It actually is a lot. Sadly, I'm not in Coil 2. And while I plan to upgrade my gear to i110, until counter measures are out in, I don't see myself focusing on hunts to progress in game. I myself have enough sol gear to deck out two jobs to full i110, but I actually don't have the patience to do it as the hunts are being done right now. I think I get about 200 seals a week, which give me about 1400 myth or so, which is why I use on alexandrites. I don't have the patience to collect seals for oil/sands. I want my Novus more than i110.

Nah no worries, my anger was mainly channeled at those who seem to think that hunts are somehow a challenging task. They claim that it takes skill and teamwork and its difficulty matches or surpasses coil. I mean come on, SE is throwing you a bone here, milk it for all you want, but don't come here to justify something that it is not and add salt to the wound. I even seen one guy claim that High Allagan gear in coil is a handout. /rolleyes

For the record I play on a high end pc and even though my fps never drops below 60, I still get the same rendering issue as PS3 users, of course without the load times. Its more of the game issue and less of a hardware issue I think.

You can get seals really easily if you join an active hunt linkshell. I'm not sure on your server but for mine, they are mostly full. We keep spreadsheets which record TOD and have our member actively comb the map when the mob is due to spawn. I am lucky enough to be in 3 of them and I can get 1 or 2 sands a day if I really want to. but I don't because I find the activity in itself menial and brainless. I might hunt for a couple of hours at a time, but that's the limit of what I can take.

Good call on the TOD spreadsheet. And yeah, wish I had more time to hunt, but even then I don't think I could stand it for longer than a couple hours at most.

And welcome back duty finder queues for new players. There is no reason now for lol 50s to do roulette. My friend who has a new character waited over an hour for titan story mode yesterday and if I do daily roulette it can take as long now whereas even with a ranged dps at the same time of day I could get in in 15 mins max before. I can live without roulette, I'm actually leveling crafting at the mo but it's tough on new players again looking to play story dungeons.

I don't think it is a bad idea to expand the possibilities of activities outside dungeon content, although the reward is a bit too high for hunts. I understand ilvl90 set pieces or myth for novus are totally cool, but giving an access to what was previously exclusive in 2nd coil is a weird call for my liking.

Now I understand that company needs to keep people interested in game and 2nd coil is not the content done by majority of players, while they care about subscription numbers. However, the other point here is that we are missing a motivation now to do challenging (in terms of challenges in FFXIV) content, because we can obtain not the same, but same ilvl gear (stats might not be BiS for all parts, but still) via mindless camping on maps and just reading LS.

I personally enjoy very much dungeons in FFXIV and it is the best content for me. It is right now little bit disappointing that you log in and want to do some dungeon (make it HM/EXP roulette, EX trial or coil) and you dont get enough people because everybody is hunting and will get better stuff than you in any skill required content other than "Tag that badass".

I guess soon we will get a new content which will provide better items than 2nd coil, so this could be preparation stage for players so they can compete, just if the reward was bit smaller or took like a week for Sand/Oil, not one/two days like my FC mates get who have enough patience, time and will to hunt it much...

I made a thread about this. I don't think hunts are the problem, I think its just that dungeons have yet to find a real place in ffxiv. The rewards have always been lackluster since launch and its a shame since they're so well made.

Right, dungeons were a grinding resource and now so are hunts. The thing is dungeons weren't intentionally a grinding resource, and they don't encourage speedrunning. Dungeons gear isn't even worth mentioning nobody uses it unless you're leveling up, I think they should re-evaluate where dungeons fit into the game.

So I get called to an elite mob who just spawned, I group up with tens of players all standing beside it waiting a bit so most ppl have gathered before the pull( very thoughtfull I must say). Someone pulls the mob, flashes of light, mob is dead. All this before I even unsheathe my axe and land a single blow, not a single bit of reward.
I'm sorry this system is broken...

Actually those new ilvl80 dungeon items do have some use now, some of them have BiS PVP stats compared to ilvl90, 100 and 110 gears due amount of offensive stats instead accuracy/parry. Tho some of best PVP items coming from dungeons feels kinda akward.

Personally, I feel that SE underestimated how FEW people were going to get gear upgrades from SCOB. T6 gives no sand or oil, T7 gives oil, T8 and 9 give sand. Ergo, 2 sands per week for a group of 8. So when their next big update with Ilvl increase happens, say 2.4, most people would still be in mostly I100 gear except HA pieces that may drop. They implemented the hunt rewards to compensate for their short sightedness. In actuality, they pretty much caused the mess.

As for nerfing the hunt rewards, that genie is out of the bottle and I don't see how they can put the stopper back in without repercussions. They need to really rethink how gear rewards are given in dungeons, or the game will just turn into a big open world grind patch after patch. And yes, I do hunts a couple hours a day, Monday thru Thursday. The Horde can rule the weekends, and they usually do.

I am quitting the game because it has now become a grindfest, and no one else does anything outside of hunts. With the exception being weekly coils.

200 lockout for allied seals a week, fixed.
Guess it's too late for that now.

I thought id do some hunting yesterday. I usually hate it and get unnecessarily angry with it, but yesterday was different. I ended up not wanting to stop at all and only did when i realized i had farmed 786 seals lol. It took about 7 hours of my day. No logs dropped from A or S ranks for me though. I do still think that sand and oil should be locked to one per week from hunts though.

I found a hunt party yesterday and decided I would try it out.

Pretty nice. Only one big one popped for the 50 seals but we farmed the crap outta B's and A's.

I am 98 seals away from my second book now for a sand.

This is the thing to do now when ST is locked and coil is done. Maybe some grinding for other jobs when I get bored or hunts slow down for the night.

EDIT: No really, I'd rather do everything else than the hunts. I don't like FATEs. I never did. In fact, where they aren't forced upon me, I avoid them. I like the dungeons. I like the gear (that is, when it used to give gear and not just placeholder crafting mats like now). Add to that, I just don't really like being a part of the "trend". It's not a matter of exclusivity, no. It's a matter of finding personal enjoyment over a homogenized, "everyone can do it" style of gameplay.

I did the Atma thing, and I regret every minute wasted on it. And all for a recolored weapon.
I trashed my first Animus book when I realized the larger majority of book content would NOT help me get the tomes needed to turn around and get the next book. . . No thanks.
While you were all doing the books, I was learning Coil down to the letter.
While you were speed running Brayflox for tomes, I went back to learning how to tank well. AND finally became a Dragoon too. I love it. . . And I still capped.
While you were running your Alexadrite maps/Expert Roulettes/FATEs for Alexandrite, or spiritbonding for materia, I FINALLY beat Turn 5 with a great new static. We can't wait to challenge Second Coil.

And now it's come full circle to FATE grinding again, minus the actual FATE system. SE, PLEASE stop force-feeding the FATE-style of gameplay on us. We did it before because dungeons were lackluster and long. Not only did you fix that, but Hullbreaker, Stone Vigil HM, and Tam-Tara HM are great new steps in the right direction! (Interesting mechanics, pacing/mechanics that discourage just speedrunning through it, not too long/short. . . you're doing it right). Yes, open world content is nice, and the idea of hunts was an interesting one, but not only have you upset the delicate balance you were starting to achieve, you've reintroduced FATE grinding and camping back into your game. And this time with great rewards. . . NO.

I'm not saying nerf the rewards, nor am I saying get rid of it. But you've effectively swept the rug out from under the players who've aspired to challenge your highest end-game content, in favor of quick easy access to comparable, if not slightly lesser gear. And the answer won't be found in increasing roulettes, offering mounts/minions, or other transient rewards this time. No, now you don't HAVE to be good to get good gear. You just have to hurry up and wait. . . Why buy the cow if you can just get the milk easier?

I want the cow. I've wanted it for so long, so badly that I did what I had to to get good enough for it. Don't you dare start giving out milk now.

Me: nah, all this game focus on Hunts. You get pretty much everything from them. All the rest is plain boring now, no one does it, as a Tank I need to wait 30mins to get in dungeons or EX primals, imagine DPS..


Friend: so are Hunts fun to do?

Me: Nope, it's a constant fight against other LS and 8-man parties, I have to switch from Tank to White Mage so I can ensure if lucky to get to that mark, that I will have enough enmity to get the max Allied Seals. Most of the time you're going to have nothing as another group won't wait for you or all the server to come and kill the poor rank B..

And if you manage with your group to get the mark, another party can take it from you, reset it, and sometimes with the amount of people it's going to be very hard to hit the enmity cap, you end up with 1 seal ^^

The community has been upped by rage, threats, reporting not Bots or Gil sellers but other players.

Friend: wow.. I think I'll check another game. Why are you staying?

Me: I am waiting for Ninja for a change, and will wait until Expansion to see how things goes..

TL;DR: If SE decides to make it so it would be limited to a 24-man, they would have to lower the seal, myth and soldiery amount. No one wants that.

So as a real hunt, the first one should zerg it without waiting, they should block it to the party that has the first hit. You aren't the one? Well, there's plenty others to find around.

Can't wait what they will do with the Elites in the next maintenance.

In any case, people will rage ^^

First it was FATES. Then Atmas. Now the subject until next patch is Hunts.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions. Telling people to shut up on a forum, that is pure logic as you mentionned.

People will be discontent with any new features any game will implement, nothing is new here.

But I'm pretty sure you agree these Hunts are wayy too easy and getting all that sand and oil (well I've seen some succubus so I assume they have already maxed their main to iLvl110)

Nice work on your BOW btw.

True, we could try to offer constructive suggestions to it. Do you have any ideas? Except to shut up? You are most welcome to do so. I bet even SE is scratching their heads now.. (another lesson learned for them: don't implement something that was 'improvised' without further testing.)

And yes you are right: once 3rd Coil and stuff will hit, people's focus on Hunts will decrease and the next big thing: Please look forward to it.
