White Mage Gearing Suggestions.

I was wondering if someone could enlighten me about what gear or stat weights a White Mage should be focusing on once they reach level 50? I am interested specifically in Item Levels 90, 95, 100, and 110. If someone could help me out with this I would appreciate it.

Most WHMs recommend DET as their primary secondary stat but there's been a movement of increasing amounts of PIE as well. The amount of PIE you'll personally want come down to playstyle however, so you'll want to play around with that yourself and see how you feel. But for an up and coming, focus primary on Determination to help normalize cures.

In terms of specific gears sets, since you know of the calculator, just makes use of it to find the appropriate DET pieces and away you go. Since you have ACN 50 already, you can probably plug in as a SCH somewhere and start grinding out i60-i80 gear to prepare for the up and coming 50 WHM

If you have the space/funds/time I'd suggest keeping both PIE and DET options. DET mainly for when you have a BRD in party as it boosts your healing done. PIE mainly for when you don't have a BRD and anticipate having a sponge or two as the more MP you have the more MP you recover per tick.

Edit: Seeing as you have ACN, if your main is SCH and not SMN you likely have been gearing for crits. If memory serves all the crit pieces also have the higher amounts of PIE. That's one of the gearsets right there so you'd be fine using that most likely.

I have Scholar up to i90 already and had been planning on just starting my White Mage with most of that gear to begin with and then modifying the gear list with what I find along the way. At least that way I save some resources when it comes to setting up the gear list. That said, some of my scholar's gear is Scholar specific so I will have to be focusing in on getting more gear for my White Mage that is White Mage Specific or Healer Generic Oriented. Either way thanks for clarifying the orientation towards Determination and Piety, that does help a bit.

A friend on another message board also recommended this list for i110 gear that doesn't include gear that requires Turn 9: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/N36D was wondering if that is a valid list of gear?

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but it is partially related to the OP's question...which food or food items are recommended for a White Mage to consume on a regular basis for maximum healing effectiveness?

Right now I am drinking Grape Juice, although I used to drink Mulled Tea.

Edit: Reading the above answers to the Tharian's question, I was surprised to learn that DET was an important trait to modify for us healers. What exactly does it do for you? Increase critical heal rates? Thanks Tharian for asking these questions, because now I am taking notes! Apparently I need to work on my DET, though...

From that set I would pick the H.Allagan feet over Daystar feet, Daystar wrist over H.Allagan wrist.

DET is a flat boost to healing and damage done.

Food:
Crit (SCH): Apkallu Omelette
DET: Black Truffle Risotto
PIE: Pineapple Juice

Edit: Just for clarity on builds: Crit build is for SCH as their shields can crit (drawback is lower base heals); PIE build is for better MP regeneration if you don't have access to Ballad on MP intensive fights or with undergeared tanks (drawback is lower base heals); DET build is for maximum heals and is best used on WHM when MP isn't expected to be an issue (downside is lower MP regeneration and usually more over healing).

That list looks good, just replace Daystar feet with High Allagan ones. Also Daystar Armillae instead of High Allagan braclets. Maximum determination so cures are healing as much per cast as possible.

Make sure you look at the Max stat bonus when you are buying food instead of the % bonuses. Grape juice is meant to be used at low levels which is why the % boosts are high but they cap incredibly low. Mulled Tea would be giving you about 3-4 times the stats.

Mulled Tea is probably the most cost-effective/inexpensive food, but if you have the means to make or purchase them the High Quality versions of Black Truffle Risotto, Pineapple Juice, and Pineapple Ponzecake are all worth using, with the latter two having similar stats with the Juice weighted towards Piety and the Cake weighted towards Spell Speed. It's up to you and your playstyle.

There are benefits to every stat for WHM, although Crit can potentially be dangerous enmity-wise.

Really it comes down to personal preference. Before 2.1 I stacked crit/ss. I was very unlucky with first coil drops and I just couldn't get my DET high enough to see much benefit from it. I loved the high amount of crits to make up for that. I never had emnity issues.

With second coils I'm going for more det/ss/pie. I personally like ss. Piety is nice but I now only have mana issues in T8 toward the end of the encounter and don't feel the need to stack it much higher. I did not like the lack of piety from the full weathered daystar set and had to equip X-Ethers to give me more room for that extra Rez or rescuing my party from unnecessary damage.

Your biggest healing buff will always come from extra mind and higher weapon damage primarily. If given the option always upgrade your weapon first then take the gear that provides more mind. Play around with your gear to figure out what stats you prefer.

Actually I completely misunderstood the read outs for food, so yeah, I've been looking at the percentage more than the Max stat bonus. Thank you for clearing that up. I'll buy a better option soon.

Other than your obvious stats (VIT/MND) your priority should be PIE until you reach around 5k MP, more MP means a bigger MP regen during battle (at 5k MP you regen 100MP a tick), the idea is to have ballad as little as possible to maximize your groups DPS; this takes priority over anything else. Second stat comes down to DET and Spell Speed. DET is an all around boost to your cures, however, having spell speed stacked as well could be the difference between a cure just a split second to late, and that clutch cure the tanks praise you for. Honestly you want a decent amount of both DET and SS to fully optimize your WHM. Crit is nice, but useless for a healer with the exception of a SCH's shield spell, and only because it doubles the potency of the shield, since you are a WHM this stat is fairly useless to you. In a simple order I would just say PIE > DET/SS > Crit. Depends on your reaction and play style.

I've been using Black truffle risotto for raids since that gives DET. I actually think 6/8 players in my static are using that for food now. We have 2 cooks that just make a ton of it and give it to us so that helps.

While I wont go so far as saying that is horrible advice. There is no need for 5k MP as a WHM. I have 4.5k right now (mostly weathered daystar gear) and I have done through T8. The BRD in my group had to sing ballad for the SMN/SCH (DPSing) before I needed it. I only happened to notice that he was using it when I had near full MP and my shroud was off cooldown. So if you make use of your procs and keep Shroud on cooldown (it is ~1060 MP every 2 mins) then I would say anything over 4k is fine for most fights.

To answer the OP. Here are the BiS lists I have figured out for WHM and SCH for i100 and i110 (redid them right after 2.3)

With that in mind
My order for WHM is MND > DET > PIE > Crit = SS with a slight edge to Crit simply because it takes so much SS to see an actual difference.
My Order for SCH is MND > CRIT > DET > PIE > SS. The reasoning being that adlo crits will grant double the shield.

And the fact remains that you do not need 5k MP. I understand why you are saying you need 5k MP because that lets you regen MP faster. But the fact remains that it doesn't matter if I finish T8 with 200 mp or 2000 mp. In fact I'd say that if I'm finishing with 2k mp because I choose piety over DET then I'm putting more strain on my healing partner. If you had read what I wrote I've done T8 and it was the SMN that was asking for ballad not me. I'm not saying I'm able to do T8 without a Ballad (I doubt you can even at 5k MP) but the fact that it was being sung for another Mage means I wasn't the cause of it. Yes I benefit from the ballad I'm not saying that I don't and I would have needed it but I'm able to last long enough that the SMN needs it first which is means I have enough MP in my book.

That said I still plan on putting PIE on my Novus with DET but DET is the better stat.

You're packing quite a bit of crit there. I don't recommend or even rely on a crit heal myself as a white mage. In most cases it'll just overheal or the tank is dangerously low if the crit cure I (or cure II for that matter) doesn't overheal.

You need to figure out where the fine line is where you can heal comfortably. The two stats you'd want are Determination and piety, but it's not carved in stone that you should go 100% det first and piety if there's nothing better or vica versa. I personally recommend going for a build where piety and determination are in a certain balance you feel comfortable with. Too much det you'll gimp your MP pool quite a bit. Too much piety and you'll gimp your healing output quite a bit. Moral of the story: A general "BiS" build for White Mage doesn't exist, in my opinion. It mainly depends on your style and bias that will create your "BiS". Are you the omnipotent healer that gives the scholar more chances to cast some DoTs? Or are you the more cautious healer who banks up MP for the "just in case"-situations? Or perhaps a balance between the two? Only you can decide on that.

I like the piety det build. I usually only need the boosted PIE for when nasty mistakes happen. But it's good to be able to handle those well. Additionally, PIE is a direct boost to my AOE dps. More HOLY is always nice :D

This is the set im currently using(minus the high allagan staff..... stupid Nael) use the Yags till you can get it. You should never have mp problems due to the 5k+ MP. I can literally do the full T9 fight and still be left with about 60-70% of my MP left(without any deaths from FC mates). This in my opinion is the BiS for whm.
