Just curious.
balmung as the legacy RP server
gilgamesh as the non one. :)
Nice i was wondering this as well.
From what my one friend has told me, most of the RPers on Gilgamesh moved to Balmung after being chastised on Greg for RPing. At this point I think it's mainly just Balmung that hosts a lot of the RP guilds, although they can be found throughout all the servers in very small numbers.
Aye, most of the major RP guilds and players seem to have left for Balmung at this point. There are a couple of FC's trying to make the best they can of it but since it seems like 95% of the RP they do is in FC Housing and such, and not out in the open world, it makes it look like there's zero RP going on to anyone who shows up at the Carline Canopy and walks out up the hill towards the Aetherite. Granted I was at one event that was roaming in the open world, but other than the event participants, there were no other random passerby's that joined in that I saw. :(
At this point, for RP, everything I hear is that Balmung is the place to be/go.
You might want to check this out for RP info.
I play on Balmung and I can confirm that it is the official "unofficial" RP server for FFXIV. You won't have any problems finding an RP FC. There are RPers in all the major cities and even some lesser ones. It adds to the environment and immersion of the game. I am not an RPer myself, but I enjoy seeing all the RP going on around me. Now just a warning there are some ERP fc's on Balmung, but they are not the majority. Only bad thing about Balmung is that it can be difficult to make a character on since the population is so high.
Gilgamesh is the non one?
And ERP?
ERP = Erotic Role Play
I'm in the same boat. Although I am not a heavy RPer (I will add small things here and there to play along), RPing does add immersion into the world and I enjoy it when I encounter RPers. I just wished there was more of them on Siren. I'd transfer to Balmung if I could, but I have close friends and my raid group on Siren that refuse to leave so I'm kinda tied down.
Who knows maybe RP will become more standard across more servers with Balmung being so full. I would love it if a good portion of them were "RP servers". It would be nice if SE could label certain servers as RP servers so new players would know which ones have a higher population of RPers.
One possible issue is that if the developers themselves designate RP servers, it suggests that by contrast the others are not RP servers, making it actually harder for RP communities to establish themselves anywhere else. As long as it's the players deciding which servers to tack that label onto, it becomes a matter of where RP is most common rather than where RP is (or is not) appropriate.
If anyone on Hyperion ever opens one, send me a message.
My point was more to the fact that new players who don't know what server has more RP than others, would not have any clue which one to try out. A new player could potentially go to the least RP server without knowing it and quit the game eventually due to lack of RP. There are ways around this of course, but just wanted to bring up that possibility. Just saying that one way to help combat this would be to label some servers as RP oriented. I'm sure there's other more subtle ways of going about this.
Can someone clarify for me how exactly a role-playing guild/player differs from the normal players (new to MMORPG's).
Basically they just like to act like how their character would presumably act to events while you're playing the game - this can be as simple as when chatting to others in chat channels, not speaking like a player playing a game, but as how an adventurer in-universe would be responding to things, or it can be as elaborate as effectively writing and acting out a story as you go along, executing it in lore-based dialogue and emotes.
There's no hard or fast rule as to how to role-play, it basically just comes down to how comfortable the player is with what they do (I prefer to be more casual in role-playing - I normally stick to things like emotes or keeping within character in linkshell chat where possible). Role-players often will also develop and map out their character's biography and past history in detail, usually keeping well within the game's established lore (or 'canon') to make it extra believable. The Lore section of this forum is particularly helpful for this if you're interested in role-playing yourself in the game, but ultimately, it's up to you whether you choose to do so or not. It's just another way of having fun in the game besides crafting, gathering or killing things. ;)
In a brief summation:
A regular player uses a character and plays within the game world.
A roleplayer becomes the character and lives in the game world.
Thank you all for the information!
