So Chocobo "raising" is basically feeding your chocobo and watching a cutscene...?

I'm a bit disappointed about this. This game got a lot of content and features but I think it takes the simple/lazy route a bit too much sometimes...

I know this content is already out and what's done is done, but is there any chance SE will make a more engaging system in the future?... As in, more than just watching a cutscene... ( - . - ;

How about some mini games?

Yeah I have to admit I felt a little misled by the trailer showing the chocobo kicking the barrels, I assumed it was some form of minigame too.

It seems the players are WAY more excited about companions than the dev team is.

It has so much potential that SE lets just slip by as the're doing stuff like this.
It's also cool that we can raise the cap but what for?

WHat do you mean what for? You can go past the cap and if the point allocation is the same through all 20 ranks then you can have all 3 trees maxed. If not then you can max 2 trees, it gives more variety for the Chocobo AND it also gives you access to two bardings.

and it says it doesnt rank up only give XP

Yeah, I was expecting some like XI minigame...

At least I can help raising my FC chocobos, I guess that's... cool? I do I get mroe food though.

Has anyone seen the XP once you are at lvl 10 and want to progress beyond? ... I have and it shattered my soul. 1,458,000. Thats to go to lvl 11. Players talk about maxing their Choco out completely, good luck with that! I'm happy I have the white robe on mine and will now move on.

Yeah, this is what I was thinking also. As far as the actual raising/training, you would feed your bird - and watch a CS. I'm a bit fuzzy on all the options, but once the bird was fed, you could then select a "training" option (walk around town, listen to music, do a delivery, etc) - these were also CSs.

I'm drawing a blank on any real mini-games. There was chocobo racing, but that didn't have any impact on the actual raising of your bird (at least not when I quit...things may have changed in the last 4 years).


ETA: I'm not saying the lack of depth in XIV is OK because that's how it was in XI. I guess my point was I'm not disappointed as I didn't expect anything but cutscenes. Now, I am disappointed with the raising process being only available through FC housing, but that's a complaint for a different thread...

You actually raised you chocobo and could influence a lot of stuff too. Not to mention breeding.

To be fair gotta think of it like this. This is only the beginning of this concept, truth be told they can't really expand it to a grand level because there is no need for it atm. Once Chocobo ________ is released they may expand the content more to make it more dynamic because they would most likely have to add in attributes like endurance, stamina, speed, durability etc to the chocobo's attributes which would mean new ways to train the chocobo which may add more options/variables when training.

This makes me sad. Declasses this as 'content' imo

At least for now it's just Feed your Chocobo -> Watch cut scene -> Your chocobo gain x XP, maybe it will change when Goldsaucer is added.

yes and how many years did it take to implement that?

... everyone is fixating on this small "fluff" content.... why have we still not got any competitive raids? why is the end game only 1 8 man dungeon for progression? why is there no variety in loot stats / Activatable equipment / secondary jobs for each class .... whats the point in having an armoury system where they introduce new base classes without expanding on the olds ones first.


Crystal Tower 2 is fantastic.... but its just a friggin "Looking for Raid" casual filler with no lifespan other than doing it once a week.... and certainly not a challenge.

At first I was worried it was a engine-issue not being able to handle it... but as seen by frontline it can be done. where are the bigger dungeons.

Why are there no 8 man dungeons outside of coil? (that are not casual story ones).

Game... has.... much... bigger... shortcomings than this.

to be completely honest here, you ppl who like dungeons runs have plenty of things to do. there's more beat-em-up things than it is fluff contents.

I think there is only so long people can use "when Gold Saucer is released" as an excuse for stuff. Gold Saucer has been rumoured and speculated on since like 2.0, and the Devs have even mentioned it being in development multiple times since then, hinting to an array of mini games and whole other bunch of great stuff.

But we have seen nothing.

I'm not saying Gold Saucer isn't in development, I'm sure it is, but when we will actually see it released is a complete mystery. If they didn't have any actual plans for chocobo raising to have some sort of use, other than trade x vegetable for exp, then maybe they should have held off on it for a bit.

I was also a bit disappointed to find out that these minigames were not interactive. When I saw the chocobo jumping over the Goobbue I was hoping I'd have some kind of control over it, and the results of my input would impact the chocobo's training.

Have to admit, I'm disappointed to hear they aren't mini games as well since that is totally what I expected it to be. Gold saucer is on the way though and we should see more chocobo related content then.

that's not the reason. it's certain content is gated behind a FC.
again, the cons of having a inn thing via FC is a bad idea...look at the notes for reasons why.
why in the world must you be in a FC, to own stables? ...

also, i personally am not the one for fc's because drama that i've exp, linkshells seem to be drama free lol.

Am I the only one who doesn't care about Golden Saucer? I'm not sure if it is just nostalgia from FFVII that make people hype over it but to me it sounds boring. If I wanted to play minigames I can do it for free using my web browser, or I can actually bet real money and maybe win real money, I don't want to waste my time doing that in-game.

I also felt disappointed after trying out the chocobo stables. It currently has no other use except for a per hour exp bonus from feeding it with food.

Yoshi, if you had the idea of players leaving their chocobo inside the stables before the log off for the night and retrieving it back the next day, how about implementing a well-rested bonus exp for the stabled chocobo?

But FCs I believe give more benefit to raising one than personal housing does (I get the point of why it should be given to personal houses, not saying it shouldn't.) FC members can raise other FC members chocobos giving a lot more exp.

Raising other FC members chocobos is nice, though it requires food, which is quite expensive so far...

All that we saw im the trailer wouldn't be that complex to turn into simple gameplay.

What seems weird to me is that they refuse to even begin working on chocobo battle-content of any kind and at the same time give us way to exceed the level cap of those chocobos BUT in a way that doesn't containg any gameplay either.

THAT is what I don't get. Pls SE put in some game to our game so we can play while we play?

This game seriously needs some mini games. I was hoping for chocobo training to be some kind of side scrolling platformer? As it is now is just pointless and boring. Is like playing a facebook game where you have to come back after an hour and feed the cow. That's not fun.

Release notes say:
"- Chocobo Level Cap
For chocobos that have already attained the maximum rank, rewarding them with a Thavnairian onion following training will increase this upper limit by one."
So after feeding one you can level it to 11
