Basically sums up Novus weapons. Even with the optimal setup of materia, they still won't be better than a High allagan weapon, and they require WAY more time and effort to get. Why would anyone ever bother with it?

Basically sums up Novus weapons. Even with the optimal setup of materia, they still won't be better than a High allagan weapon, and they require WAY more time and effort to get. Why would anyone ever bother with it?
Because - if I'm allowed to make a generalization - relic weapons were made for people that don't have the skill or static group required to obtain the HA weapons.
Or the regular playtime to be part of a static group.
Not being able to take part in 2nd coil because of how I work basically locks me out of ever getting the best or 2nd best gear in the game, with the exception of Novus. Even though it's a mindless crawl to get it, I'm thankfull for it.
Well, locked out would be more correct since we now can get sand/oils/UAT from ST ;)
It's almost as if the best weapon in the game is...the best? And that other choices are mostly an availability thing? My god, you've cracked the code.
There are many reasons why someone would not be able to get high allagan for example my FC just recently started doing endgame content we don't have enough members we are short 1. Recently killed Garuda Ex and working on Titan Ex got him to 50% on our first night technically second night but 1st time didn't count since I had atrocious lag. This is my second month playing and I got my atmas swiftly working on Animus because it would be a while before we are able to get high allagan.
I think this falls under the part of my sentence that mentioned not having a static group......
This might be stretching it, but I'm gonna say if you have the "time" to get a Novus weapon (really, how long did it take?), you have the time to learn a bit of second coil.... but everyone's time not matching up with yours (or vice versa) would also fall under not having a static group to get it done.
Just wait till they add a relic only bonus skill, you will be sorry you never did it.....
Novus is the 2nd best weapon in the Game and as an extra, it is customizable. It was never supposed to be the best one, otherwise people would not want to beat the last turn of the actual Coil. And it's good like that because Novus only needs time and Patience. A lot, I agree lol but there is nothing more to it. I assume it will always be this way. If we get the 3rd incarnation of Coil and the Weapon is Item Level 125, the highest Level of the Relict weapon will be 120 and so on and on.
Ehhh, I don't know. How many more people opted for Levi or soldiery weapon instead of farming ATMA? A lot, judging by SE's choice to push the Novus questline back. Frankly at this point I think people would do coil anyway, because you still get superior gear. I don't think the situation is similar anymore to the original Coil/Relic weapon scenario.
Another day, another "WAATMA" thread.
I haven't finished my Novus yet, at 32/75 at the moment.
But I still have a lot of playtime so to speak, but it differs from week to week because of alternating shifts.
Have had several offers to be part of coil statics, but we agreed that me not being able to join every week would be a bad thing, especially regarding progression.
I could get some runs in T6-8 probably, but not see me clearing T9 anytime soon. Mostly due to lockouts and not many groups have that on farm with pugs yet.
And with 2.4 patch, HA will be worthless vs the next step of Relic (let's call it SSA relic, gotta keep it becoming more glowy) and if you can't beat the last turn you'll rant about people having better weapons than yours despite not "putting the effort".
How about finally learning how a vertical progression MMO works and learn that the useless "next best weapon that grows with time" is far more valuable as an investment than the last raid weapon ?
Sure you'll get raid weapon faster usually if you're very good, but if you aren't part of the top, the relic is the way to go 100% of the time. Wether you complete it before getting the raid weapon or not is irrelevant to the point here..
The developers said that they hope to eventually have the relic weapons become what they are actually referring to from FF XI, so if I'm to have any sort of guess, they're probably going to end out as the strongest weapons available for those classes in the game due to the tireless amount of hours you have to put in to getting them to that level.
Keep in mind the situation between XI and XIV is different tho, relics were the best of the best for over 6-7 years. In XIV, everything is reset every 6 months roughtly, so we'll always have to put in some effort to keep it upgraded.
Regardless, they'll be some serious vanity gears in a few years when 98% of the players give up on them.
How many threads here have we seen with "there's nothing to do" or "coil down, now what?" ? Those guys clearly didn't build a relic or two.
Ugh, I've got a clunky english today, like my driving. I'm afraid to go back to work now ><;
Depends on the person who is playing is all. Like myself, I don't have time for a static coil. I have time for an hour or so a day, maybe spread out through the day to play because I have things to do. I can cook dinner and farm some atma, or finish up some dungeon runs while I get house work done. Or the long wait time that comes with your partner saying "I'll be ready in a minute!!" and that minute turns into 45? Well that's 45 minutes I got to get book mobs or do leves..or sit for a fate.
I do not have the time sit on my computer 4 hours at night when anything can come up, this relic quest caters to that lifestyle so that I can get something. Why not farm levi or other things? I do, but it's a random drop..this is something I know I can accomplish, and I enjoy my SMN book of glow.
So why would anyone bother with it? Because...24 hours in a day just aren't enough for me. Between work, friends, life in general, a few spread hours through the day are enough for me to catch up. Now for others? this isn't the path for you..for those who spent the whole day on 2.3 getting everything done posting their Ramuh items and complaining that people in Crystal Tower 2 can't play..or demand that you know that fight in PF for Ramuh EX..then don't bother with this quest, tackle coil.
The "time and patience" argument works with coil as well. Sorry, I think doing actual end-game stuff and being rewarded with HA gear is more impressive and worth the time and patience than level synching some trash fate we did almost a year ago. Then farming trash dungeons. But, hey, what do I know, I'm not someone with an Animus/Zenith holding people back in Coil/Primals because something actually hits for damage.
Probably because 95% of the game's population will not have a HA weapon while the content is limited by weekly lockouts.
You guys realize the relic chain is going to go on, why would you not go novus? In the end it could be BiS for all we know.
I am working on Novus and don't plan to try 2nd coil unless my FC finally beat turn 5. There are 2 main reasons for this:
1) I don't want to join groups of screaming retards that say they want to practice but quit after 1 wipe and don't plan to lie that I know 2nd turn and get kicked after 5 min - I better waste my time doing Novus instead (this way I spend time with more fun and some actual reward in the end)
2) I do things I can actually complete alone to pimp up my gear as much as possible to be able to help my FC and myself to finally beat turn 5 and start 2nd coil
Because it glows.... Nuff said!
Well, from what I understand, Yoshida has said that the weapon drops from the current top-tier raiding content (i.e. Twintania drops in 2.0 and 2.1, Turn 9 drops in 2.2 and 2.3, etc.) will always be the absolute best weapons in the game... that said, a properly infused Novus is currently the best i110 weapon in the game, hands down.
Thing is, I do have a static for coils and I still see myself getting Novus far sooner than I will see HA weapon. Another group in my FC began downing T9 weekly, but for the last several weeks has seen the same weapons drop making the effort a couple of them put into Novus worth while cause it is still better than the other 110 weapon option in the end.
You can quantify effort:time ratios all you want, but in the end it is still a 2nd best choice simply because you can now tailor the weapon to be the 2nd best choice. Most other weapon options are i100 now instead of only 5 under the best choice. I'm almost done with my novus and quite simply...I'd much rather spent the time doing det/crit than settling with the Tome/Sand 110 Crit/SS as brd.
While I agree with your first part they have said that the best weapons in the game will always come from dungeons.
That said I would take a WHM novus over the HA one since I don't need SS on my WHM and the 3 MND is more than made up for by the 31 DET. Even the 2 damage isn't that big of a deal.
Novus is only slightly better then the Soldiery weapon which is easier to get and should be good up until you get high allagan. And i have doubts as high Allagan from what i gather has always been the best weapon.
I have already spent 3 months trying to get a atma weapon for my blm and just cannot take fates anymore.
You will have someone who will argue the numbers because it is still "Best in slot" which is true. That is their mentality on it, and nothing you argue changes the fact that it is still....best in slot. For DPS, the dmg difference does make a fairly big difference as it is the primary modifier on the end number. Do I agree with SE's decision? No, I don't..because it is a side step to keep content "playable" and "balanced." It didn't make much of a difference for XI when they brought in new endgame weapons to make prior ones obsolete or better in different situations because one was still better in damage output in ideal situations. This is still the mentality they have held to but applied it in a rational way based on how the game is built. Novus is not a bad weapon, and even if "slightly" better than the one other i110 weapon, it is still 2nd best option that tailors to a different player base.
E Glow factor on Novus cost us millions of gil + rng infusion.
Pls give alternative ways in getting Materia iV...
Btw How to earn Materia IV?
^^ guaranteed if you bind a Item level 70 item. Possible if you bind a Level 45+ item, but low chance.
pretty sure 1 weapon damage = 4-6 mains stat and 1 main stat = 6 ish 2ndary stat (if some1 can confirm, been too long I forgot lol.) just 2 Weapon damage alone will out weight 31 DET (if my ratio is correct LOL)
trading main stat for 2ndary stat is debate able (depend on class). trading weapon damage for 2ndary stat is really bad trade. (you will end up losing a quite a bit of healing, pretty sure heal amount work off Weapon damage as well)
Still working on my novus, however, the IV materia is becoming a setback since a lot of my SB returns only elemental IV materia if I get a IV at all. Transmutation is still an RNG joke and at almost 1 Million Gil for a determination IV, not going to happen any time soon. I will get my upgraded book of spades sooner than my Novus weapon.
Yes, I could put Acc on my Novus just to get it done. But, I do not trust SE to make the redo an easy task to just replace one stat. Sometimes I feel that this is FFXIV: A Materia Reborn.
And by the way, why the hell is elemental materia even still in the game? They are useless unless there is some greater plan for the future. I suppose so that the MB is not flooded with materia which would lower the price. Economy trumps all, even in games.
Finishing up my animus books, reconsidering doing Novus at all. With determination IV at 1 mil gil, this weapon is not worth 10+ million gil.
