"Upon completing the side story quest A case of Indecency, players will unlock the Parley mini-game."
Yeah, it was mentioned earlier in the week it's returning. Funny how it seems the quest to unlock is the last of the new Hildibrand quests - figures I guess. ;)
Although I hated it in 1.0, I'm willing to approach it now with an open mind and see if it's been improved or not. Minigames are always welcome. :D
In an ideal world we'd see parley tournaments organized by players to kill time for lulz. Wonder if we're in an ideal world.
What makes me laugh is the fact that Rowena has been moved again.. I wonder when she'll finally stand up for her self and say 'No I'm not moving!' >.> lol
Of course. I want minigames in the FC estate. Several different ones. I don't care if Parley, card games, board games, whatever ... although I would prefer something similar to trading card games with rare items and where you can actually win and lose stuff.
Can be simple, as long as they are well done, and can be used for socializing. It's the only PvP which would matter to me.
But why Parley?
They could have at least changed the name :-D
Well, I just hope that they did not strip it down to bare-bones, but instead implemented all the plans they once had, with actions, leveling, and so on.
I'm scared to ask but
...What's Parley? Is this a returning thing from 1.0 I've never heard of before?
Yes!
And it was the symptom of the main design choice which turned 1.0 into a big FAIL - making crafters able to defeat storyline bosses in the most annyoing (and incompletely implemented) way. Instead of "fighting", you "discussed" a matter with them ... using a horrible, simple mini-game which was far from usual FF minigame standards.
This. And yes it was awfully implemented (as SolArisa said it was a way for Disciples of the Hand and Land to undertake the storyline - other story battles had either npcs you had to direct, or an actual npc fighter called a Path Companion do the fighting for you). It wasn't that good due to being poorly executed (you could only use in a few specific instances, and there was basically no tutorial in how to play as it - you simply were given and it was left up to you to figure out on your own). But then, that was indicative of 1.0 in general.

Probably a better explanation than your link.
I thought Parley was okay. Kind of really simple if you were able to think abstractly about where pieces would move after your turn was over. I didn't love it, but I didn't think it was awful. I did think it was downright silly that you could use it to pass main storyline quest battles, though. It kind of took away from the climactic feeling of killing things, even if they WERE easy to kill. I think that's why so many people remember it negatively... but, outside of that, it was pretty decent for a minigame.
haha. I find Parley quite enjoyable actually, albeit a bit sluggish. I just hope it's more fun that it did in 1.0. I only have the chance playing parley several times since back then the only DoH classes I have that's over level 35 are WVR & GSM.
I could search my old posts ... but it may have been in the old Lodestone forums when I got crucified after saying exactly this, and that it could be a nice minigame if SE would allow it to be PvP.
Very curious to see how well it will be received now after enough time has passed.
But what made me really laugh was the memory of how eager Yoshi-P has been to get rid of Parley once and forever, back then when he acted like he would actually care about players' opinions and input.
Sounds like a quirky yet interesting mini-game.
I've never played 1.0.....so perhaps it's been improved?
Also, as it's a new feature(For non 1.0 players) for some of us, I'm looking forward to the little tutorial/explanation that will go with it.
Best clean up your mess bud..
That
That's beautiful (used semi-ironically)
I was hoping for a battle in the Hildibrand questline again, but I'll... 'look forward' to this (that 'look forward' might be genuine, we'll have to see)
It would be nice if you could challenge people, yeah, especially if you can 'bet' a reward. But it has to be an optional thing and not forced upon you. I believe it WAS forced upon you at certain points in 1.0, and you had the *option* to use it at over points. But, if it's completely optional, you can choose to play it or not.
Parley would have been better if it was much faster.
The really big problem is that it wasn't much of a mini game; what you saw in those videos were major plot battles, all of which could be completely avoided by doing a clunky bejeweled ripoff.
Which is because of that weird mentality of Tanaka's team that even if you're an humble lumberjack (and I mean, your only unlocked class being Botanist, as you weren't forced to have battle classes in 1.0 at all) you still need to have your shot at saving the world, despite not having any combat skill at all.
If it was its own mini-game, and not something mandatory you had to get through to advance the story, then yeah it probably wouldn't even have been that bad. I laughed at it back in 1.0, but I'm curious to see how it's been reworked.
What did I watch exactly???
Parley wasn't horrible per se, it was just badly used(and the UI lag certainly didn't help). Hopefully this time around they will actually use it as a real mini game (say successfully "parley" with a npc shop and get a discount buff for a little while, like was heavily implied in 1.0 but never actually followed through on) instead of just being the one NPC who "taught" you and a few story missions being your only opponents.
I kinda liked parley on 1.0 ( > . >
Always wished SE let us play it against other players and not just NPC lol
