Because identifying the enemy BLM/WHM/Whatever is easier when everyone on the entire team isn't wearing the same vanity gear.
The reason it is disabled during pvp is probably so that people can't hide their PvP armor with PvE armor. A common tactic in other mmos that don't hide vanity options was to change all their PvP gear to look like PvE gear so people would be like lets go for the guy using all that PvE gear only to have a hard time killing that player because he has tons of def from player attacks from his PvP gear.
Faster target acquisition if the gear is correct.
Especially in frontlines where a wall of nametags pretty much block what your looking for... If I see evenstar/highallag/stupidswanlookingthing then I know it's the damn healer without reading the nametag that requires a magnifying glass (at a long distance).
It already says 'BLM' 'PLD' ect on the name. You don't need to recognize them by gear. Also no one is gonna care about tactics with gear on a massive scale pvp. I can semi understand arena though.
Alright then, so how do you distinguish by two of the same job, assuming they're wearing the same gear.
One might be a better player or more of a nuisance than the other, someone you'd want to deal with first, what then?
Allowing vanity is a bad idea and leads to people abusing it to gain whatever small advantage they can.
Can be as simple as how other games like League of Legends does it. Purple text, Blue text. Things like that.
But we already know that name color in Frontlines is decided by Grand Company.
Do you expect every player to have a different color name when there's 72 people there?
What are you talking about? Why do you think its hard to implement 'maelstorm' red. 'gridania' yellow. Ect. ? Its a team match not a death match.
You missed the point entirely, it's already known each team is going to have different name colors based on their GC.
The point I made was if everyone was in vanity, how do you tell Maelstrom BLM1 to Maelstrom BLM2? They could easily wear the same vanity to confuse the opposing team.
Then you gave the idea that "Oh well they could all have different names like in LoL/Dota!" Where EVERY member of each team has a unique color, do you expect them to have 72 unique colors for identification? Of course not.
Take a look at all competitive games, they do not allow characters to look like others, for obvious reasons. In a competitive environment opponents need to be identified. Fast. Anything such as player choose-able vanity could interfere with this and give other players an unfair advantage. Sure, games like LoL or Dota allow customisation, but it's only customisation that retains the identity of the character, preventing confusion.
In this game, where everyone could wear a bikini or a santa suit, it would be a nightmare.

Q: What are the level requirements?
A: The only requirement to participate is that you are level 50.
For Frontline, we've implemented a new system referred to as "item level sync." We're still making final adjustments as to whether we will sync to item level 80 or 90, but if you wear equipment that is higher than this, it will be synced automatically. Additionally, the morale stat utilized in the Wolves' Den will not be used here, and fights will take place on a completely even playing field. However, you'll still be able to use PvP actions, and I believe this is where differences will develop. In the future we may utilize item level sync for different types of battles such as time attacks.
It's pretty easy to identify a class simply by the type of weapon they are using and the animations of their abilities. To say that it would be hard to distinguish classes is a bit ridiculous in my opinion.
I never understood this, fooling your opponents is as valid strategy as any other, but ppl tend to complain if pvp is more complex than capturing positions and killing the other team.
Look at archeage, it's a pvp MMO and it has a vanity system that works everywhere, they can do that because their vanity system is as limited as ours.
I don't think there are reasons to ban vanity in pvp for this game, but i'm not gonna cry for not having it, i just think everyone would love to have their own custom mark when doing pvp, and that's the reason behind having vanity in the game.
