Read through the patch notes...

As a crafter, I have to say I want to cry after going through the items list. These tears are not of joy, but of great sorrow for what's most likely to come.

After reading the increase to GP for i55 accessories on Gathering, I figured oh well, not too bad since the current stuff isn't expensive to meld, so getting rid of it for something new isn't too big of a deal... that's when I saw it...

Rose Gold Earrings of Gathering - "Ooh so there's new Gathering accessories to be made in light of the change. All right, time to get some mats together in prepa..."
...
Mosshorn Earrings - "... another i55 equip? Why is there anot... wait... they wouldn't. Not with the cost of materia as it currently is. No.... NOOOOOOOOOO!"

I'm more sad about the new mainhands....i just finished getting them all not too long ago.

But yeah, if....we have to remeld....with the current prices for materia..*tear*

Oh good lord, I didn't even notice that... but that's all right with me. Obtaining the i70 weapons was simple and actually somewhat inexpensive (once you were melded decently). It just took like an hour to make everything. Likewise, the gathering weapons... whatever, its simple enough and not a burden on cost (probably).

But thank you for sharing my pain on materia melding possibly being needed again. This is such depressing news LOL!

I'd rather meld one thing that can be applied to all my DoH jobs over pumping out 50 HQ items for a new mainhand per DoH. This is far less painful than the last major patch.

Also, the stat caps are likely to match the current i55 wrists, so if you go from max-melded Red Coral Ears to max-melded new ears, you're only gaining 2CP, 1Control, 1 Craft. I think you'll manage.

There's more than just the earrings though. It seems we're getting an i55 item for all our current slots that don't have them (Dodore Belt, etc.).

Quick buy out the market before they inflate prices.

Returned a while back and haven't had close to enough cash to start going after the new master gear, so seeing the bar slide again is... not pleasant. May as well give up on crafting and gathering at this rate. :-/

That's true lol. I was just pointing out the first one I saw in that post. I have a supply of those goods in light of SE inevitably making these low demand (but somewhat hard to get) items important.

It's most likely to help ease the need to penta meld a little for current 3 star goods, but the success chances are still warped in general to overmeld. I highly doubt these new ones will break the typical mold of only 1 materia slot avail before needing to do that.

Assuming 4-star goods are ever released though, I'd imagine we'd need to cap the new accessories as best as possible to have the least reliance on RNG to HQ. It's odd, but some of the slots seem to have different caps too, so what we'd need is probably going to involve A LOT of t3 and possibly t4 materia. Haaa... just gotta wait and see. Here's to sincerely hoping the new gear has more stats on them as a base to ease the need to meld so much.

I have a stock of some materia I've been buying for such occasions as this. Still on the look out for deals too, but otherwise I just convert my own usually.

At the very least, no need to give up on gathering, I would think. I doubt there will be much need to meld a lot. As it currently stands, melding to achieve all node access is rather inexpensive and doesn't even involve more than a few t3 materia and only a bit of overmeld per to do.

Man a new main tool, from i70, to i75 that's just disappointing lol. I think that just killed any desire to keep up with my DOL or DOH til they decide to make the experience at least a tad more engaging adding more variety rather than 1-5 recipes for each class that are more than just furniture and recipes needed to obtain DOL/DOH gear lol.

Why did they make the grind items 100% useless? That's just throwing millions of gil away for every non hq item produced...

Imo SE is trying to further weed out the non rich and dedicated crafters.
Think of it lol, they are making desynth so that you should focus on a few classes rather than all crafts and the fact that they are raising the bar for crafting.
I guess SE was like ppl had their fun with easy vanya HQ etc and now a lot of ppl are starting to become master crafters, so lets give em a good ol backhand and raise it further so that only true crafters will continue to progress their crafts.

I haven't even got the most recent main hand tools. I *just* got the glasses and wasn't looking forward to the grind to get the tools, and now they're throwing another grind at me.

Oh, and desynthing being capped at 300 for ALL of your crafts >< That's terrible! Justice demands that they do something similar for battle and magic classes in the next patch. No? That wouldn't be fair? Well what makes you think it's fair to do it for crafters?? Ugh. This is why I don't do much crafting anymore.

I don't mind focus on desynth with only 3 being able to hit near cap but I think adding new primary tools when they just gave us new ones to obtain alienates those from working further towards crafting since progression feels stagnant.

The change to materia cap on GP means players might have to remeld their gear and that in itself just feels a bit like a kick to the nuts cause it's obvious players would much rather at least be given an il65 crafting gear to have to meld rather than having to remeld their gear.
Crafting with how it's implemented kinda plays off in the same sense as mmos with grinds that imitate a lot of content. Since the amount of effort they are currently putting into crafting isn't that much they remain at a low i55 item lv, with some slightly higher ilv however battle classes have more content, means of obtaining gear and they currently stand at a potential i110 limit.

Now I"m not saying crafters or gatherers should be that high, but when the weapon goes from 2.2=70 to 2.3=75 there is definitely an issue especially when there isn't enough gear added to at least increase crafter item lv.

What I had hoped they would do is something like this
2.2=Head/main tool=i70
2.3=sub tool/gloves=i70
2.4=new crafted gear i65, main/sub tool upgrade=i80

At least the above progression would give crafters more to obtain but as it currently stands it feels like they are taking baby steps but with a huge time sink to obtain.

Recipe wise it would also be nice if they did add high tier recipes that required HQ aka could think of it as "bahamut of coil" style difficulty of HQ but instead the recipes are just furniture which don't need to be HQed and can easily be synthed in safety as long as you have proper preperation.

But something like "normal/medium/hard diffiulty" synths would be interesting maybe even something in the vanity sense.

You know why not add extremely glamorous vanity items that you have to HQ in order to obtain otherwise you get a generic looking item.

It could be something like NQ=Tattered Cloak HQ=Elegant Priest Cloak, least then there could be more visual items to obtain of difficulty that show prestige and a sense of reason to use gil lol.

<_< Though to be fair SE may be slowly going down that path with the desynth addition having items that can be used to recreate certain gear at a higher item level, so maybe the baby steps are working out as they try to find the perfect medium for crafting, but I honestly feel that crafting won't be what it can be until workshops are released and maybe at that point in time the gear acquisition will change to express the increase of depth in gameplay for DOL/DOH.

With saying that gave me an amusing thought that it be interesting if when they release the airship content they allow something like discover nodes that send the DOL user into an instance based on the navigation abilities of the airship, with the ability to find rare materials that can't be found within the borders of eorzea.

I feel a true swell of pity for one of my FC mates. The guy was a top shelf crafter. He worked incredibly hard to get his gear and now this... I don't craft like he does, but it was hard to listen to his reaction. I have heard the same for dozens of crafters. I'm just relieved I didn't push for my gear like they did. It's completely wrong that I feel that way too.

It's called loot lockout. It may be even worse than the 300 cap due to RNG capabilities of loot. At least you have 'control' over what you can master.

Crafting and gathering are technically classes too. As we get high tier crafts and nodes to deal with, it's expected that new gear is going to appear. It's always been a given that we would have to replace the current best gear with new stuff 'eventually' and start the whole meld thing over.

So is it considered to be too soon for new gear? I'm not sure I understand the issue here fully, as it's no different then combat classes spending months farming the max tier raid for the full set of BiS gear only to have to do it again when the next big patch brings out a new raid.

And synthesis 'is' similar to the limits placed upon combat classes. You can't main more then one combat class if you want the absolute best stuff, due to gear/raid lockouts, but you could change which class you want to max whenever you like. Same with synthesis, you can only hit 100 with 2 crafting classses (and 95 with a third), but you can swap which are maxed basically at will, though we don't know how much effort it'll take to raise/lower the synth score.

We do not yet know how high desync levels need to be in order to have a 100% chance of success. ~37.00 (every class equally high) needed for 100% success is a world of difference from 100.00 needed for 100% success.

Hmm, most of the loot lockouts have eventually been taken away. Think they'll do that for desynthesis? Somehow I doubt it, so yeah, crafters are in a worse boat.

I do not want to belittle your friends effort in becoming a master crafter, but it was more a time/gil sink then anything else. You either spent the time gathering materials or SBing, or spent 300k gil buying the mats and materia. 3 star crafting is quite profitable (as is crafting HQ lvl 10-30 tank gear). The gil requirement was easily the faster route and easily recouped once you got your mainhand tool. Honestly, these new items shown look to be very profitable for crafters. Everyone already geared up will be able to start making these new items right away while they work on desynthing skill. The new crafting gear, il90 crafted items, primal synths, and gathering gear will all sell quite well. Anyone already close or able on patch release will be able to rake in the gil while those that decided to wait will have to give up or pay out the @$% to catch up.

These items will easily provide millions of gil to any master crafter and they are not even close to all of the items available.

Materia's is the sole reason I gave up crafting after I got weaver, ARM and CUL to 50... It's waaaay to expensive for me now to bother levelling them. Until something is done about the way we get materia I probably wont touch crafting again.

You could do what I do and gather all the materials yourself.

I was diaspointed to hear about new mainhands instead of offhands and such - but then I'm not yet working on mastering any craft so far. Still in the process on trying to meld stuff to atleast attempt getting the artisan tools. Do plan on getting all crafts to 50 just so I can help out with stuff like relics and such. Beyond that don't expect much in terms of profit.

Remember in XI how leveling even one craft was genuinely rewarding?

I honestly couldn't tell a new player why any of the crafts would be WORTH leveling.

Their fear of inflation and RMT has also removed all imcentive to take part in the economy in any meaningful way.
Why can't we have challenges like artisan's spectacles for DoW gear that could be sold or at very least something we could wear ourselves in battle.

Surely it takes just as long as spamming bray for Noct gear so why can't we have any rewards?
Crafting gear that makes just crafting hq stuff easier isn't really worth the trouble as nobody needs that stuff anyway.

They should let us have the option to desynthesize and receive all materia back at the cost of destroying the item, that way ppl wont feel like they dumped millions of gil worth of materia only for it to become useless when new equipment comes out.

Anyways, the destruction of materia is part of what keeps the economy flowing. otherwise, prices would drop, and it woul,d remove yet another form of moneymaking to the common non-crafting player.
