About the Red Labyrinth ...

I've been wondering for a while now, is this place ever gonna become something else than just some warp zone?

I've looked around trying to find some lore on it but even the guards says nothing about it...
I haven't been far in 1.x so I don't really know much but, was it here before?
Is there a story behind it or it's just another place that is here just because it's here?

Red labyrinth?

In the southern thanalan, it connects the forgotten springs and little ala mhigo, making you skip the whole zan'rak area

Oh it might have a new dungeon or something in 2.4

You think so? Would be kinda weird to visit an area we skipped for month x3

Has a potential and will take us there maybe? We are suppose to be getting beast tribe zones too there is a lot of gates and entrances that become important later.

Hm in that case it would be nice, if they do I sure hope it'll live up to its name and be a real maze x3

In 1.0, Thanalan, like most areas, was a very large expanse created by copy/pasting the same few chunks and connecting them in different places like legos to form something that has the illusion of a unique area. A lot of times, you wouldn't notice it at first - you'd just enter part of one dungeon that felt a lot like part of another dungeon and get deja vu until you realized "Oh, holy damn, it's all the same few pieces with different stuff in them!" The Red Labyrinth was the name of the southern-most section and was the same scenery as everything else but full of very high level mobs. Nobody ventured out there to see it for any reason beyond curiosity.

The area now known as Forgotten Springs was called Burnt Lizard Creek and was Northwest of the Red Labyrinth but looked pretty much the same. Opposite, to the Northeast, as another pretty much the same area called Zanr'ak. What is now called Zanr'ak is actually where Camp Broken Water used to be, more or less.

Long story short, the Red Labyrinth was just a name back then. A new name for the same ol' terrain. What will it be in ARR? If anything? No idea.

Oh I see.

Too bad, I expected some kind of nice stuff on it x3

Hey everyone! First time poster but long time lore reader! :D
I didn't see this mentioned so I figured I would chime in and say that there was a bit more to the red labyrinth back in 1.0 once upon a time! There was a graphic effect there which made the rock a vibrant red color. It was bugged however and only half the time worked.

I never saw that graphic effect once the entire time I was playing. Any other that were like that?

The hedgetrees in 1.0 hummed the closer you got to them

Considering most of the "Red Labyrinth" isn't shown, since they take us through it, it doesn't means it's not red inside anymore ;)

Oh so that's where It's name comes from... Talk about originality xD

I don't think the hedge trees hums anymore tho, to bad, there are so many scattered around the shroud and were not given any real purpose other that the low level quest that requires you inspect it :/
I sure hope they have plans for those kind of places other than just being names on the map :3

It wasnt around for very long. I once went back after getting my Paladin to 50 and never saw it again. Granted it was a pretty long gap between my first journey and second visit there. We are talking back when they where still working on changing the battle system. There where quite a few little unique spots amoungst the copy paste terrain but I never found anything else similar to this effect.

I miss it too! I would intentionally provoke them long enough into doing it, then leash them and they would stay like that until someone else killed them. I know I wasnt the only one to harass them like it too. I would often come by one bald from blowing up! XD

Yeah... The old Incapacitation effects... It was such a neat concept that didn't really go anywhere. Only certain bosses have it anymore, but back then, Skeletons were the terrible enemy in the game, but you could knock their head off.

Drybone has monsoon showers half the time nowadays.

Seeing Ifrit hornless in 1.0 always made me chuckle. Not as threatening looking without them! I wonder if he still visually loses them now? I haven't really payed much attention to that detail come to think of it.

Back on topic would be nice to see the Red Labyrinth be a dungeon of some kind down the road. High level Amal'ja used to roam it in 1.0 as well so it would be neat if they had some connection to it.

Red Labyrinth new dungeon in 2.5.

I have to echo the Moose's assertion that there were a lot of cool place names in 1.0 with nothing there. Camp Glory. Sounds freakin' awesome, right? Just another aetheryte camp. Move along.

I used to do that as well, although sometimes i'd try and make the explode around people for the ultimate PK :D
