So last night I finally hit 500 commendations and got my magitek, but as a friend told me, once you hit 500 ... there's really no incentive to give or recieve commendations. Are there any plans to add new commendation related achivements?

I might refer you to this thread: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...dation-Rewards
I don't know why you wouldn't give commendations if you reached the 500 already. Maybe they didn't get their 500 com yet. Also, it's a way you have to tell them that they did a great job or you enjoyed running with them.
Oh thanks, I'll go check it out now. Well, I give and recieve my commendations from PVP mostly, so standing there after the match is over with such long queues for such small amount of play time when the others might not even bother giving them is a bit of a waste of time specially now that I don't need them lol I think people who complain about giving them being a hassle aren't going about them the right way (and by this I mean harvesting them at pvp. 3 commends in less than 5 min? that's the way to get them).
That's not the main problem though, it's more of a personal wish, like, I see them commend me and it doesn't mean anything in the bigger picture anymore
There is incentive to GIVE commendations - there is a challenge log that gives scaling experience point returns depending on your current level.
You could just continue to give comms to, oh i dunno, be a good person.
Hey, that's an extra free 1k gil every week just for clicking a button 5 times in one week. Why pass up free money?
Not to mention it completes a challenge in your challenge log, possibly completing a secondary challenge in the process for even more free gil.
It's not much, but it takes literally no effort and adds up..... and it's easy free gil.
I really hope you're an extreme minority or I feel bad for newer players in the future when many have their Gold Magiteks and decide that since they aren't fishing for comms themselves they don't need to hand any out. I'm sure as more people reach the 500 mark (most people are doing it slowly rather than farming them during PvP win trading or through Hests) they'll add a 750 and/or a 1000 comm reward. I know when 2.2 dropped there was maybe 10 of them on my server and if XIVSouls is to be believed there's only 67 of them currently out of 59000 characters I wanted to use the total across all servers but XIV Souls' top page has the magitek and gold magitek counts accidentally combined at the moment. I did however check multiple servers and the numbers are generally the same. Appeasing the literally 0.1% isn't likely that high on the priority list.
While there are no new rewards for receiving commendations, the Challenge Log rewards players for giving commendations, and the Challenge Log resets every single week. So that's something to think about.
I also hit the last commendation achievement, but now I make sure to leave the dungeon immediately after I give my commendation and/or receive the final loot drop (depending on whether I want the loot or not) so that other players are forced to commend other people.
I've already been blamed for cheating the system somehow after riding around on my Gold Magitek mount. I laughed because I had just popped back in from perfectly tanking a Garuda trial with 6 commendations.
I'll just quote one person, cause... well, I'm seeing this argument a lot.
And it's extremely flawed. It wouldn't surprise me if none of the people who have bringing this up have not obtained their achievement at all.
A lot, in fact, most of the time when doing short repeatable content, there is no one worthy of mention. And no chatting is done either.
And runs like these actually occupy the biggest part of venturing. So people who say "oh what an asshole, he isn't handing out commendations" are IMO being extremely short sighted, seeing most of the time no one merits a commendation.
You know, there's something wrong about essentially getting praised (commendation) and expecting to get a reward out of it lol. I mean, I'd hope people don't expect money or something if we're part of a team working on a project IRL, when someone on the team says "good job" to them. Heck, I'd hope people ingame don't expect something out of someone saying "GG" to them after a run. When I'm saying something nice, or even giving out a commendation, I see it as just fluff. You don't need to be rewarded for being nice (or trying to be). You don't need to be rewarded for helping someone else. It doesn't have to be meaningful to give or receive with something like this. Or do people need to be sincere in taking the second or two to type out "GJ" or "nice job" in party chat before they actually do it?
Not to give a commendations to someone or anyone that you deem worthy, is your own choice.
These are rewards for players, by players.
I even don't know with your reply how you managed to get any..
The give and take (take-take) until I reach my goal and then gbye everyone, is that attitude that for me you don't deserve any.
Reminds me of homework, that some will do ONLY if they receive a candy after doing them.. /applause
So even if everyone says here that you should give, we all know your the one to decide behind that keyboard.
My FC mate that has reached his goal, same with me, make a macro that from the start says:
/p Heya all ^^ Lets have fun! By the way, please give commendations to someone else, as I reached the cap, thank you!
The problem with SE: you never know if they will add more achievement reward over the 500 limit.
Then you continue doing your thing, and.. giving is free, takes 2 second, and after 5 per week, give another free 1000 gil.
I am capped just like U with all jobs. They will one day raise that cap, so the XP you are striving for might be ok.
People need to start thinking it's not a solo game, it's an MMO. Your personal achievements vs everyone's.
Except the 1% at the top, everyone else will end up having the same stuff, no one is truly unique, specially the easy 500 commendations among other things.
That's why I don't pug much at all (except leveling in DF sometimes). It's just not as fun, and mainly that I don't care to gamble with whether or not I'll run into the typical neanderthal. When I'm with folks I know, or the uncommon socially acceptable pug, it's just fun and games usually... good times for all, even if you don't quite understand the jokes, at least you know you're with seemingly good people.
Not that there's anything wrong with being quiet, I can get behind that. Just say something meaningful if it seems like it'll be a detriment to the group not to.
Heya Alistaire ^^
The commendations you might receive when no one talks: could be Japanese or someone that doesn't understand English ;)
Every time i have the chance to give a commendation, even if we are 3 from an FC, if that person stick with us until the end, and we beat all: he'll get 3 commendations.
Good or bad, we don't care. He won't get better with them, or worse without them.
I think it's flawed in the fact that it's letting Humans judging Humans in a game.
So bear with me, have fun, talk a bit, and voilĂ , you're on your way to get your ugly-colored mecha hehehe
*And yes Alukah: if they so want us to join an FC to chat, people will do all content within FC only, and they will start crying that the Tanks and Healers are missing.. lololol
Over 700 and still hand out comms to those who impressed me. Whether it's someone doing a bit extra or a new person visibly improving.
One kinda person I will never give comms to, no matter how good they are, is those who ask to be commd at the end of a dungeon. Usually those who have asked have been pretty bad anyways :D
It's not like it matters if they're added or not, they don't change the flow of the game, it's just a reward. I have over 1,000 commendations all 100% legitimate commendations, I don't grind out PvP, I just like helping out new players and my main is a tank, so it's pretty common for me to get all the commendations from my dungeon runs. New rewards would be fun, it's always nice to work towards something, even if people cheat the system, there's not much you can do about that. Take a look at the sight seeing log, lots of people just look up where to go and what to do, you can't control these things, but it doesn't really matter at the end of the day, it's just for fun.
People don't boost comms. Its would be more work to do that then to just do a good job. If people did boost they would have like 500. Not 700-1,000+. Its not hard to get comms. I took a 2 month break and have almost 700. Just use DF more, kind of the incentive behind commendations. Its amazing that because people have something you don't they are automatically boosting.
It just made me happy to receive commendations.
*refers to own sig, got it last night*
