A proper looting system?

Now that we have raids and gear that everyone wants is dropping from them. Why wasn't a proper looting system implemented? Or even a /roll command? I don't see any point in just randomly giving the loots to people.

What just happened was that some mage boots dropped in Darkhold, there were 2 mages, they were given to the other mage who was R49, but not to the other mage who was R50, I have no idea if a R49 can even wear those boots as they are R50. So, I suggested that we'd roll for them, but the mage just kept them as in "ninjad" without being even fair about them and not saying a word afterwards. So.. please, a looting system, thanks. Let's make this game fair for everyone.

A rank 49 getting a rank 50 item is hardly problematic, but yeah, an improved loot system would be nice.

Im sure there is a roll system built in thats how it figures out who to give the item to. It just seems random cause we dont get to see the process. That being said I would like a better loot system.

I was thinking the same thing.. giving the loot randomly isn't the way to do it. I'm sure we can see this in the future patches... it's just a matter of time ;)

Advice for now, if you're doing a raid for gear be VERY clear about that before entering the instance and what the conditions are to 'earn' gear drops in your party (Must be a certain class/rank/free drop/need vs. greed etc. Also, if you are after gear it is best to go on runs with people you trust and know. Yes, a /random command would be hot, but as we don't have it currently, just be clear in what you want BEFORE you enter. And travel with friends. Lastly, I know it's the 2nd day and it's new gear and everyone wants to be the first to wear it, but sharing and helping goes a long way.

(You might not have been the Rank 50 Mage that lost the boots to the 49, but it does look like 80% of the reason you made this post, which yes, points out something the game needs, is because you didn't get what you wanted. Sounds like they dropped to him, that means they are his the way the game is currently set up. I'm sure he'll be rank 50 soon enough...very few people ranked all the way to 49 and then stopped. ;))

We really do need a /random or /rolldice. Honestly I know they have bigger priorities but something so simple would be very appreciated.

just fyi that isnt the point at all, it was just the icing on the cake that he wasnt even the correct rank.
i wasnt there but there is no reason to not implement a proper loot system.

you have the wrong idea of what the OP is talking about.
a roll system is when they players themselves sort of "roll dice" by typing in /random
when you do that a random number will pop up and that is your number. its also how people decide the order in which people do things like who activates their dungeon run first.

I've already noticed going through Toto-Rak that if you happen to get a piece of gear from a treasure chest in the middle of the run, you either have the person it went to not notice or the group doesn't really have time in the dungeon to discuss who the gear should be going to.

A lot system would be much easier to figure out since your group can discuss rules on it beforehand.

As other said the lotting system is horrible...honestly it prevents any form of organized lotting to take place and even encourages theft (the drop randoming to someone who has no intention to pass to who it should go to).

1.18 is a great patch... but with dungeons, and more focus on pickup groups and what not... the lotting system is a critical system that needs to be completely redesigned... or just copy a system that works I do not care... just trash the current one in its entirety.

Where there is the possibility for theft, it is guaranteed to occur eventually. Leaders need some way or managing drops to prevent it from happening.

Isn't that pretty much what I said? 49 getting a 50 item is irrelevant to the bigger point, which is yes, we do need an improved loot system.

Give everyone equal chances at getting the top gear. The lot system is fine! You guys just want a monopoly. Get all the top Gear and sell it for millions. If you don't trust people in your party, your loss.

I wish everyone would stop worrying about what other people get for loot. Is this a manifestation of horrible jealousy and entitlement? If someone gets the random drop, who is anyone else to demand that item? It isn't like people can't switch jobs on the fly, you know. Does it matter if that glad got a con body? How do you know they can't or won't use it now or in the future? How are you more entitled to it then they are? I mean, if people are willing to say "here, have my item" great, but it shouldn't be expected nor should SE change the game to accommodate that kind of mindset. I really don't get it.

XIV should do it the way DDO does it. Loot drops in the chest for everyone in the party.

This is not how guilds functions.

The purpose of an endgame guild to come together as a group and become stronger over time, letting it be trully random is the most counter productive thing that can happen. I can almost 100% guarantee any serious endgame guild can agree to this... if they don't I question if they will last more then a few drops, will be internal drama like mad.

If you are in an endgame situation and you take an item that you are not up for it is theft regardless if SE's random thing gives it to you.

My ls we instantly kick you from the LS if you intentional take something that is not going to you (Includes afking after it drops), and plaster your name on many different sites to try to make sure we completely ruin your game experience on the server.. fairly standard policy as well I think. Sounds harse but then again need to make sure that person doesn't screw over another LS doing the same thing.

Good for you. Your LS seems super organized and runs with set rules which people agreed to in order to join. You certainly don't need the game to run your loot system nor does everyone else need to follow your LS's rules.

I hate the loot system right now. It's not that I'm not getting my fair share (it seems like 75% of the drops go to me for some reason), it's more that it's annoying to ask who wants the piece, list all the stats, try to pass to that person, then usually the person is out of range, I track down the person, but person's loot list is full and cannot receive the piece, and then I wait for them to clear a spot to give it to them. Just... not a very elegant solution to loot distribution.

I don't like and don't understand the entitlement issues some people have, where if someone gets an item fairly through the current system they feel that the person who got it doesn't deserve it..
But.. I do think it would be helpful if there was a party treasure pool and lotting system like XI, so if people DON'T want the item, they can pass it for others.
I believe everyone should have a fair chance at the items earned by the party, regardless of rank/level and class/job.
Someone with higher levels doesn't deserve it more than someone who worked just as hard for it.

remember ffxiv is " im playing solo" partying is optional. so who needs a loot system is what SE thought.

i dont like thread bumps, but i'd really like for the Dev.Team to evolve this mechanic further.

Using FFXI as refrence (once again) it was more or less adequate & properly working,
what we have now is... not even fair.

Some people dont even check their loot list and forgets that they
actually recieved loot they dont need etc...

Next patch i want to see a proper loot distribution table
where players have the option to /roll for loot.

Maybe it rolls automatically already but you just can't see it? I don't know. Even if it does do that I want rolling implemented because when one person already has gear they just picked up, he will give it to someone he wants. Or when someone can't decide who to give gear.

It has already been stated that a better means of loot distribution is in the pipes. And while i know this does not make the "aww 10 seconds but i want it now" crowd happy. We just have to make do with what we have until then.

Then maybe you should put in some effort by showing us this actual information, that says we are getting a proper loot /roll system?
Because "You know this" isnt good enough for anyone.

I completely agree with the above. I was in a situation like that just recently, although in this case, we were dealing with a new player that got the drop (that wasn't for him), he panicked, and then teleported... hoping the item would go back in the pool. Initially, the other party members thought he stole the drop (stating it privately, outside of party chat), but then he immediately came back, apologized, and even stuck around an extra 2 hours until the item dropped again. So whether deliberate or accidental, situations like these can only be avoided with a proper loot management system... (unless the party leader is a crook).

I also agree that 90 seconds is too short to decide on loot allocation. Yes, planning is essential, but I've seen cases where carefully planned dungeon runs ran out of time handling a few surprise drops.

I was about to add this possibility myself. I wouldn't worry about it happening so much within your linkshell (Unless you have one of those people who are in 'every' LS) , but especially when the servers start to get populated with new people, there will be some kind of loot system that the party leader can control, Or else there will be those greedy people that get what they want out of a raid and just leave on you.

I believe the only tried and true method in deciding matters such as these is by ROCK PAPER SCISSORS.
