Is there any reason Mysterious and Treasure maps are labeled as Unique?

Edit: For clarification, I KNOW what Unique means and how an item labeled as such acts. The question isn't WHAT is Unique, but WHY is it Unique.

Anyone knows/can think of an answer to the question above?

It's been very annoying for me since I rather do the maps with friends. I rather save up on maps and collect them daily until both me and my friend are free to do them.

But SE doesn't let me, instead, I have to get a map, put in retainer, get another map, put on another retainer, finish one map, teleport to moredhona to get the other...

Why do SE trying so hard to make the game so inconvenient...

I was thinking that maybe there was a balancing reason I can't see, that SE see, but really can't think of what it is and wanted to hear some ideas that may enlighten me as to why it is designed like that...

Am I the only one who finds this extremely annoying? lol

No, you are not alone. It is not really a problem, more a question of convinience but I would also like to be able to stack them and decide on my own when I want to do them. If I had a choice, I would collect them during the week and do them all on weekend when I have more time and a head for it.

You're not the only one. :/ I have no idea why they are unique and don't stack.

You need 75 (or close to it) "unique" Alexandrite maps for your Novus. SE logic.

You can have 2 of the same maps. One Deciphered , other still in bottle :)

But at least they are not something bots go after.

True that for Alexandrite stackable maps would have been nice but as they work like other maps I understand that they don't.

There is a simple workaround which I use all the time - stack one in your inventory, decipher other, next two in the retainers and any above those 4 moogle mail to your friend(s). They'll do the same. Then if you are let's say in group of 4 you can run 8 maps in one go, then stop at moogle mail to pick up another 8 and rinse repeat and in the end pull last 2 each from retainers ... ;)

I think we all do this already... we shouldn't have to, they're just maps...

They are unique so you don't can have more than 1 map each in your retainers/inventar and don't buy all maps in the MB in one go.
They are also not stackable.

I'm guessing they set them as unique because the other maps are, without really thinking about it much. Hopefully they change that.

That's a pretty moot reason as I can buy all of them anyway (only one by one) and simply moogle mail them to my friend(s). There is really no logical reason from the storage point of view to have them classed as unique. It's hassle with no benefits to anyone. They're already limit by 18 hr timer and classed as Hidden and that should be sufficient to control / limit the circulation.

The devs actually did give a reason for this when maps first came out. But I can't remember 100% what they said but it had to do with limiting them so rmt couldn't abuse them and bot farm a ton of maps.

But they are already time limited...? If that is the reason SE doesn't make much sense lol

Also we already suffer the RMT /tells enough as it is, so now we also need to suffer for gameplay changes dedicated to reduce them? I rather get more /tells and just use 1 second to blacklist than have to spend a lot of time and money teleporting to map locations, then to retainer, then another location, then to retainer, then to mordhona, then to location, and on and on and on...

When you remove the ability to carry inventory of any good or service you also decrease the willingness of people to supply the item.

Meaning, they are attempting to keep MB prices high for these maps because the buyer must pay a premium to the seller because of their limitation on storage of the map.

If it is the reason SE, please disable Unique for Mysterious map seeing as you can't sell them and they are 0$ profit for RMT! Pleaseeeee

But... that is a huge inconvenience for you in your own words, and you have an intrinsic value of being able to trust your friends to not steal your maps (or you are just giving things away for free) which is a market advantage.

All I'm saying is that they made them harder to store.

Another potential reason could be that they want you to log in every day to do one instead of doing a ton of them at once so you don't get burned out. Kind of like how they grant you 7 Duty Roulette bonuses per week, but you can only use one per day.

100 bots, takes 2 weeks to be banned? that's is around 1800 maps for 2 weeks.

I have no idea how many bots/gold farmers there are nor how quickly they ban. It is just that we get information about it every two weeks in average.

Reduced costs, and only one person pays for the teleportation. I understand your frustration, I am fine as it is :)

IDK... Whenever I get questioned Convenience or RMT, I'll always pick convenience...

1.0 was so badly hurt because it's core design was to reduce RMT. (speaking of the earliest version with the random EXP lmao)

The UI was so slow because it was checking with the server through every step, I suppose for cheating prevention and so on...

You know, even if that's acceptable and you're fine with Treasure Maps being Unique, why are you fine with it on Mysterious maps? Mysterious maps have nothing to do with bots and RMT, right?

I did agree for Mysterious maps would be nice to stack, but for me minor convenience I don't mind as it is.

Day 1 : just had time do quest got map and deciphered it
Day 2 : same, got map undeciphered in inventory
Day 3 : Did 2 maps, the quest and then the 3rd map.

I am not saying they don't have to change, I guess there are people that don't have a problem with it either way. :)

I guess we just play different then... In 3 days I can get like five maps (not including weekend lol) from comboing the dailies plus the myths. That turns the "minor inconvenience" into not so minor (for me and my friends)...

I'm all for relic weapon taking time, but please take time in a convenient way :D

I don't share the opinion that the inconvenient design is to act as a time sink... It sounds a bit far fetched (?)

My guess is really that it's a left over from Treasure Maps that should be changed for the sake of convenience (At the very least on Mysterious maps only).

I wish they would change this. I like to wait until I have 5-6 maps and do them all at once.

Yeah I've never understood this. Maybe they intended it to stop people having too many? But then why make it possible to sell them?! Go check your market board and I'm sure you'll see the same names buying most of the Boarskin/Peisteskin

I wish they would remove the unique label, they already make it impossible to mail your own characters on same accoint, so the work around is FC chest, which you can't put unique items in

I'm guessing maps are this way because SE wants folks to do "daily" activities. There was another thread a while back, complaining about daily beast-tribe quests being difficult to progress through because the OP could only play on weekends. He wanted SE to change beast tribe quests so that you earned six allowances per day (perhaps up to a maximum of seven days' worth) which you could then use however you liked whenever you have the time to do them. The dev response was pretty much, "We want players to do these activities every day."

By making maps unique, they encourage a similar behavior. Get a map every day, use a map every day - that's what SE wants folks to do. Sure, players can get around this to a degree by stockpiling maps on retainers, and collecting different types of maps, but I'm still sure that's their intent.

As to WHY SE wants folks logging on and doing stuff every day, that I can only guess. The paranoid conspiratist in me thinks it may be to encourage MMO loyalty; they don't want players playing WoW on Mon Tues Wed and FFXIV on Thurs Fri Sat, or whatever - by adding daily activities, players are encouraged to log on every day, which means they'd be less likely to spend time on other games. Less cynically, maybe they know that if folks could accumulate maps or beast quests, the vast majority of players would save up for the weekend and do them all then, creating server strain; it could be a method to keep server activity from spiking.

That's just a label. It's just like the exclusive tag in FFXI. It just means you can only have one. I wouldn't get hung up on the word too much.

Its what me and some friends are doing. Then blow through them on FRI or something.

You can throw one more in the mix by having the quest ready for turn-in as well. 1 deciphered, 1 in inventory, 2 on retainers (+1/2 for anyone buying extra retainers), and 1 ready for quest turn-in.

I'm pretty sure everyone who commented here already know about this stuff.

The point isn't that we can't have more than one map, but that having more than one map becomes inconvinient when you're trying to gather them and do with friends/FC/LS. See the quote on the OP.

Please add stacking to these maps. It's a pain to run back to the retainer and force progress.

I think the purpose is to get people playing daily or near enough. The purpose behind that is for the community. If you encourage many people to play most days then there is always an active community (such as it is). Without such encouragements fewer people would log on during the week or for shorter periods of time. This is just one of those 'log on daily' items. There's supply and provisioning turn ins, roulettes, beast tribe quests.

It would certainly be convenient for me (and everyone) if they changed it, but I don't imagine that they will.
