A wonderful (probably bad) idea for the...

Community.

So I had an idea. Could very well be bad. BUT.... I'm gonna share it anyways. (with that warning, I hope people still atleast read it all, even if for some laughs)

So everyone says the game has lost a lot of working with the community, doing things together, helping people out and whatnot. One of the arguments I saw was on the fact that because everyone can be any job and be the best at it that it removes the need to rely on others.

So my idea would be, to bring back relying on friends and server mates, would be to lock out dol/doh classes, so that every character can be any combat class they want, but only able to pick 1 dol and 1 doh
Job. Think about it. Say we can only pick one dol and doh class per character.

Me, I'd go fisher and culinarian(sp?)

I believe doing his would not only allow for people to become more social in the game, befriending strangers and working together, but could also (even slightly) balance out some of the mb under cutting and bring prices to a more reasonable standing.

As a culinary person, and a fisher I could make some things, but would need to befriend people and rely on others to provide the other supplies.

It\\\\'s similar to the real world. You can\\\\'t do everything yourself.

A genuine question.

How would you propose compensating people who took the time to raise all crafting and gathering classes to 50, spending hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of gil on outfitting their characters with fully materia'd gear?

Lets not forget Artisan Tools and how on earth without cross-class abilities from several classes would we ever HQ some items?

Didn't think much of implementation so much as just general idea for the situation

It was just a funny little idea popped into my head.

Like I said. Just a random idea. Could have been possible at launch, but as a few have said, with both cross. Class skills and items/money put into classes already it would. Never happen. =p

this wouldn't help at all. the only thing this would lead to was people using their alts(that they are already paying for) and using those alts for the other crafts and gathering classes. personally, i am already paying for 40 characters and 8 on my one server.

the only difference between me having all my crafts on one class instead of one on each alt is the fact when someone comes to me they know my main as i am attached to it and know i'm trustworthy. the other difference is that when i have all classes on my main i only take up one character spot on the already filled server instead of taking up 8 slots due to the alts.

i think it's a stupid idea for them to consider, but with the group in charge they will probably do it. that's part of the reason i make a new alt each time i see an opening on my server. it will allow me to have them there when they do decide this is an option. sure, it keeps more people from joining the server, but i'm not going to get punished over another bad decision.

edit: if you really want to slow down the number of people that have every class leveled then all you need to do is slow down leveling again. the super speed of leveling yoshi put in game is the reason people have everything capped and will do so again not long after any cap increase. this blame goes directly to the director in charge. slow down leveling speed and when the cap raises the number of people with everything capped will decrease also.

Oh got one for this! Link skills, you hook up with someone of appropriate skill level in another craft to combine powers to help make he stuff =D more community social funness

Sounds like the Synergy Synth in FFXI, that was an interesting concept but a bit of a nightmare. Also splits profits, I knew people who leveled a craft mule and dual-boxed to activate the other crafts abilities so they could do it solo.

but that's not what would happen. instead of sending me a tell in game asking me to make you something you would have to check to see which one of my 8 characters i am on and ask me to sign out of it to sign into another.

Well if they are your friend maybe you do that for them, or you say your busy and they talk to. More people lol. That's the point. Building relationships with multiple people, past just the static ls and fc and such. Build an actual talking interacting community

But again like I said, it was a (probably bad) idea. XD

in other words you would rather have the easy 1-50 button where you do little to nothing and get capped then punish everyone else willing to put in more time and effort you are. sounds like this is an idea that's more about being selfish than it is actually taking care of an issue you act like you care about. if you were worried about handling the issue you would realize your idea makes many more issues than it solves.

Yeah, reset the servers and apply this please make FFXIV 3.0 (I'm kidding ok? ) it is a good bad idea xD

Now everyone can talk to people, make friend and work together anytime.
I think no players will ignore you bcoz they have multiple crafting jobs ^^;

in addition, some players dont like crafting, they may become unhelful to others if this happens

So basically, you want WoW? Cos only getting 2 slots for Craft/Gather Professions works oh so terribly well at making people social over there.

All it does it force a reliance on either making alts with professions to support your main, or spend hours and hours and hours in Trade waiting for someone of the appropriate Profession to come along and do what you need.

Personally, i don't Craft or Gather. I have friends who do both. I have friends who love both. Just because we *can* do a thing does not mean we *have* to do a thing. Arbitrary and frankly stupid restrictions would just frustrate people.

Spamming a trade chat, is not social, you don't make friends this way with WTB x or WTS x. It may stimulate the economy but it has never and will never make things more social or create a community.

Seriously it's exactly that... I won't rely on anyone regardless if it was restricted... I'll upgrade my subscription to hold multiple characters on the server and.... MAKE MORE! So no... no WoW for you here.

No idea wow did this. Lol. I only touched wow for about 5 minutes on a friends lvl 70 or something tank class guy. XD wasn't fun

i think it was becasue the letter of producer states those terrible ideas have been implemented or to be implemented were came from different sources including this forum... ^^;

They are adding stuff in which you will need to work together as crafters. Airships for a start wont be a one person thing.

Also if they decided to limit Classes at this point imo, it would cause more lost subs than community interaction. So yeah, bad idea is bad XD

A DoH specialisation is planned, if I remember it right.
Like every player can level every DoH class, but only 1 class can get to the master level (learn recipes that only a master can learn)

my point was allowing people to only take one past cap is not going to help the issue at all. it will just force people to level alts for those jobs. that was one of the draws to this game and xi was to be able to level them all on one character and have more of a connection with your character you are playing. if you want to get rid of everyone having everything capped as you mentioned in the original op slowing the speed of leveling is the only way in which you will get the required result.

right now let's use me as i have all crafts capped on one character. with your suggestion i'd still have all crafts capped, but one capped on each alt. there is absolutely no change in how many crafts i have capped with your suggestion at all. the only difference would be me having 7 additional characters on my server(that i already pay for) and that would take 7 spots from others to be able to add players on the server.

slowing down the speed of leveling is the ONLY way in which you will reduce the number of players with all capped. it will happen automatically because as the cap increases each time less and less will be able to keep up with the time required to cap each class. that will solve the problem you want fixed very easily and will eventually have most people concentrating their efforts on less than everything.

edit: i do see that you made this post as a joke, but the reason people are responding to it(including myself) is due to the fact it's actually been suggested and even spoke on by yoshi. he got massive negative feedback when he talked about it before also. i'm not ranting so don't take me that way. i am simply playing devil's advocate.
