Reroll for things falling to the floor?

I was discussing this with some friends tonight. This seems like it would be a great quality of life update:

How many times has something dropped that you wanted to allow someone else to have? Say, for instance, like the healer robe drops on turn 7 and you are a healer but your best friend you heal with really wants it. You pass it so they can have it and Opps! they left the zone before everyone could pass and they didn't get it in their excitement. And now it fell on the floor because you passed it too so no one got it.

I'm not suggesting that the person that left the zone should be able to get it somehow. I know that would be hard to program. All I suggest is that is instead of it saying "Item could not be obtained" and being gone forever, how about it just stays in the box? That way you could open the box a second time and reroll on it. Because in the healer robe example, well not only did you just pass on it, but your friend didn't get it either... So it really sucks for both of you because when it drops again, now there is some drama if you are going to pass it a second time for them or not.

The robe is just a example really. Just how many times do we see stuff go to the floor? It's just pixels and it doesn't matter but I think it would just be a quality of life thing. It would avoid drama in free companies and random pug groups! :P Some of us put in a rather large amount of time for pixels sometimes (novus anyone?) just to see it fall to floor is a downer, that's all. It could easily be fixed i think to allow those people in the room a second chance to roll.

Had a Friend loose an atma because it auto hits the ground on full inventory, if there was a temporary loot pool that is the second chance to stop loot from hitting the floor it should include items hitting the floor due to full inv.

I suppose we could turn this thread into a thread over if people support this idea or not kind of thing though. From looking at the mods/english language team posts, it seems they post in this category most of all. So maybe if it gets enough support they might take a look at it.

That forum section is for website (for example forums or lodestone features), not in game suggestions.

This is one reason I tend to always Greed everything in level 50 dungeons, unless someone speaks up about wanting something. Half the time I'm the only one who even rolls. Better one of us get some seals than no one get anything. It would be nice if there were some kind of warning or a re-do on failed rolls.

This whole situation can be avoided by telling everyone not roll anything, not even pass before you actually discuss who gets what.

I can kind of understand where this is coming from, but was a bit shocked at the example given. Maybe a crafting mat from a dungeon, or something from a map. But people throwing away High Allagan? That's just stupid and if you couldn't take 2 seconds to say "you need?" Then you deserve to have it hit the floor.

I think they should split "Greed" into two levels. No actual game requirements like Need, just a way to split people who want it but can't roll Need and those who would rather have it than have it drop to the ground. Allow people to courteously bow out without loot disappearing.

You can simply not pass the loot and it'll go to you if no one has needed / greeded. This is why in our group others never pass before the members with loot right have said they've looted. And no one leaves the instance before the loot has dropped.

Well, I made up that particular example but... it's based on something that actually happened.

The whole "you need?" thing happened of course. HA gear isn't magical to prevent accidents from happening! :p Maybe I didn't clarify...but gosh didn't I write enough already for that to be obviously asked.... Why would someone pass loot anyway without asking the other person if they wanted it (maybe you guys don't use voice chat...different strokes I guess).

I really didn't expect any opposition to such a update to the game that wouldn't hurt anyone and would make others lives a lot easier... But I suppose having a negative opinion is a higher desire to post than a supportive one... :P I.E - Writing a negative product review is much more likely than someone writing up a good one.

I think this is a great idea.

I've also seen High Allagan fall to the ground because the same people just happened to sacrifice for the other.

Not sure why you're being so snarky about it as this just makes your story evens stupider. If you're on voice chat you don't even have the whole no keyboard/took too long to type argument. You just all passed the gear and ran away, now you're whining about it.

I'm sorry we are misunderstanding each other though...

My entire thing was about a fictional person wanting to help a friend out and that friend accidentally leaving in excitement of thinking they were thought of. (Because, wow, a friend would pass loot, so nice!)

It's funny though, you are getting like I'm upset about some imaginary occurrence though... I even did say "Say, for instance," when I opened the example.

Sorry if I came off snarky, but I didn't feel like you read the opening post... since you didn't catch the part about it being *an example*.

I'd like to see a ffxi type of loot window where you can see everyone's roll or whether or not they've passed. I've sat in primals for a few minutes waiting for people to roll because they are hoping the others will leave.

I don't think we need a safety measure to avoid loot dropping to the ground. It's easy enough to not leave an instance until the item is distributed. People need to stop thinking their stupidity needs to be alleviated by an outside source instead of changing the way they themselves do things.

They should show rolling status of all members. It is very easy to modify loot window.

Honestly, if they want it to be secret until everybody roll, they should only show who get the loot or not show at all
(only say "xxx has been placed to one pt member's inventory" or something).

Since vote kick system already doesn't work while loot window poping up,
I see no point to do as current loot announcement system.

How about showing on your chatbox who rolled (and how much they rolled) and who passed. Every game has this on loot system and it's a good improvement to help your whole party notice.

Not if the only way people have of telling the system they'll only take it if nobody else does is to wait and not select any of the options. That means nothing can be distributed until it times out, and we're all stuck standing around twiddling our thumbs for several minutes after the dungeon is over. It's also really frustrating if you do really want to equip the item, but your Need roll can't take place until everyone's made their selection. Sometimes getting an item before the run's over would make the run go more smoothly if it's a significant upgrade.

The solution Tsukino mentioned above is probably the best way to handle it. Add another level between Greed and Pass, to indicate we'll roll only if nobody else rolled Need or Greed. (At that point, the only reason for anyone to ever pass anything would be if their inventory is full and they really would rather it drop on the ground than take it.) That way involves everyone making a selection so the rolls can take place and the item be distributed, without needing to wait for everything to time out before it can be distributed.

So you're telling me it's not easy to sit around for a maximum of 5 minutes? Is it unnecessary? Yes, it is. It's just other people being dicks. But if you want the item, don't leave until it's been distributed. How is that hard?

A third option between Greed and Pass would be nice. Maybe call it "Donate", and have the winner automatically receive GC seals as the item disappears. It would, if nothing else, be better than watching people Greeding or Needing for seals.

And to avoid that type specifically, I'd change it so that Expert Delivery can be done only through "Donate".

For a lot of loot, your GC isn't the only place you can sell it. So long as it's not untradeable, people might want to sell it on the marketboard, but still defer to anyone in the group who would use the item themselves.

Actually, since "greed" is a good name for that, perhaps its best to think of the additional category as going between Need and Greed, so there would be:
Need1 (for current class, with Need's current class restriction rules)
Need2 (for alt classes or cosmetics, without any restriction rules on who can choose it)
Greed (for Marketboard or GC Expert Delivery)
Pass (let it drop on the floor, you really don't want it)

Then perhaps have the item bind to you if you choose either Need option and win the roll, so you can only sell it if you won it through the Greed option. (To avoid people falsely using those to trade for seals, then make Expert Delivery be limited to unbound items as well. Though I'm less certain I like this last point because it would also prohibit trading in items you've out-leveled after using them a while.)

With that arrangement, nobody would Pass or wait out the timer just in case somebody else wants it directly, because anyone who wants the item directly could choose the secondary Need option. Greed could become the standard default choice for anything you weren't looking for.

Yeah but it's a poor example, as that is incredibly unlikely to happen. Most groups have loot all sorted and discussed before even beating a turn, sometimes weeks in advance, let alone not even bothering to roll after the turn.
