Visuals for procs

In some other games whenever you get a proc there's usually some sort of flashy visual design around your character that let's you know "hey push this button!" Every once in a while I'll miss a proc because I'm too worried about something else or I just flat out didn't notice it. A proc should feel exciting and fun, but as they are now, they're a bit stale, I think this would really spice things up!

It's why I preferred 1.x's - Simple bright pink circle around the skill that's part of a combo (back when we had real combos.)

Yet another reason I'm looking forward to addons. Plus I really want better DoT timers for SMN.

I agree with you, some flashy procs will be great, hope development are reading this ^^

This way the next skill in the combo chain can't be overseen.

I would like to see an audio que that's distinguishable. I'm more of an audio learner/ reaction than visual. I just don't notice my procs on screen the way it is currently.

I always miss Cure II/Succor procs on my WHM/SCH :/ I'd like a better visual representation... perhaps something popping up on screen or maybe a noise, I don't know :)

I like the OP idea but I kind of like this a bit more. I also tend to pay more attention to sounds and with all the flash from the crap we have to dodge I'm afraid more lights would only get lost.

I'd prefer audio cues but both/either would suffice... this' a great suggestion.

Add ons would go a long way to addressing this and other QoL stuff.

The one big gripe I have with the visuals is that there is no effect on the button when you press it. Since the game has a gcd and every button blanks out it's very often hard to tell which button you just pressed.

A pulse or flash on the button as a more visible reaction would go a long way to make battles feel more satisfying.

You are making me nostalgic. I do like the combat system of ARR, but the 1.23 combo system was a lot more fun than anyone gives it credit for (probably because they never actually experienced it.) It felt like personal skill played a bigger role because you had to build-up and time when you used your tp instead of it recovering automatically.

But yeah, the faint yellow border around skills that light up can be hard to see depending on which skill it is. It's not too bad when I play on my laptop, but I normally play about 7 feet away from my tv screen and even when it's a combo that I triggered, I occasionally can't tell if the second skill is combo ready. That comes up most noticeably when the first skill doesn't actually go off, but uses up the global cooldown (which is a problem in and of itself that a few of my FC mates have to deal with.)

I must have grown accustomed to it since it doesn't seem an issue to me anymore, but I do remember stressing out over missing a fire starter or thundercloud proc when I was still leveling BLM. I imagine it's more difficult for healers who are probably looking at the party list more often than not. An auditory cue would be good, though I do think a more striking visual cue would be appreciated. Though if they get too 'in your face' with it I hope they don't also carry that over to crafting since Byregot's Blessing and/ or Rumination are lit up for the entirety of every synth.

It ripples out from the inside when you hit it. Unless you mouseclick it, in which case there's a visual quick where it stops the ripple immediately as you left off on the click.

Only thing that annoys me is some procs have buffs indicating you can use them (BLM's Thundercloud/Firestarter), but not others (Haymaker/Shield Swipe).

Thundercloud and firestarter are procs off of skills that do something else when not procced. Haymaker and Shield Swipe aren't usable unless procced so their icons go from grayed out to usable. It's just a different visual indication depending on the type proc they are.

I almost never notice when Haymaker is available. In 1.0 it was great, because my character did this little "ha ha!" laugh when she evaded an attack, so I knew at that point I could use Haymaker.

I like this as well. But audio alerts wouldn't work, as even a couple of people I party with on and off are deaf.

I think something pulsing would get old very quickly, on the eyes; and for those who sit close to their screen, could easily cause headaches and other discomforts.

Trying not to be a stooge but just info on the above. What if they put in a "white out" effect on the ability that procced? It turns also completely white while still maintaining that little ring around it that exists now?

Those huge pink rings are awful. I'm glad they decided to use something more minimalistic and less gaudy (moving yellow dashes).

A specific audio cue would be nice for those who want/need it.

They were great because they made combos and "proc" (e.g haymaker) obvious - Audio cues does nothing for the deaf players.

Just out of curiosity: how many people here like all the frequent, flashy animations and glowing equipment, but dislike the current visual markers?

I don't mind the flashy stuff but I would say the one thing I don't like at the ABC waypoint markers they really distract me and if you need to be anywhere around them (which you probably do) they are way too overpowering visually. I like the ops suggestion though I really like the pink indicators on the bar like 1.0 had. I would prefer them over the current dashed lines.

Audio is probably good enough. All the flashy lights makes me so confused (>....<.

It doesn't have to be too flashy as to distract from the combat, maybe like a glowing border or something and an audio cue could work too. Honesty at this point anything would be better than what we have now.
