Rmt spamming has definitely gotten better over the past months, but, it could still get better.
A lot of the times when logging in for the night, one of the first tells I'll receive isn't from friends its RMT spam. And there really has been less of it due to the addition of the add to blacklist feature in the game, but I (in my own personal opinion) think more can be done.
SE should have GM's for every server monitoring for RMT, and other harrassment issues for one thing.
Adding a feature where the add to blacklist also reports the person that was just blacklisted.
Also I think that if you blacklist someone on one character it should be account wide, (if you have multiple characters.)
Any thoughts?

It should make it so that if there's enough people who block someone in a given time frame, then they're auto blocked from sending tells until further investigation.

There are like 4-5 GMs in total on one shift, per region (EU/NA/JP). Asking for one GM for each server would be impossible, that's like 120+ people that would need to get hired.

If there was a reporting feature attached to the, add to blacklist feature, and say that person had 3-5 or more reports against them, that could flag the GM that I mentioned above (RMT Sniper GM) to investigate that person in GM jail. After that based on how the person responds to the GM, his/her IP/account can be banned. That to me would be a pretty efficient way to go about it, and that gets that earlier hiring number down to 3 per shift, so 9 more new hires to help a problem that is pretty rampant in this game.

Because honestly, its pretty sad that one of the main ways we have,to not receive RMT spamming is to /busy so that we don't receive those /tells in the first place. While that does help us "ignore" the problem, it doesn't really help combat the issue. I don't know about you all but, I don't want to set my status /busy and miss /tells from friends just because I'm trying to ignore getting 10 /tells in a row from an RMT'er.

I get spammed 10 times by 1 RMT and he logs before I can Blacklist him, So I do what everyone else does and puts busy up, though when I forget and step away, I get around 40 spams from different RMT.
I am glad they are coming out with the report thing and a filter. I still think we shouldn't have to take the time out of our playtime to blist and put busy up on our heads. -

There are only 2 ways to stop rmt, preventing them, fixing some exploits etc are good methods but not enough, a lot of rmt prevention outside of preventing botting (will require a lot of time, and could well end up futile) and fixing exploits are good ways to go, but outside of these methods it will start to impact legitimate players. a small FFXI example of this was placing Goblin Bounty Hunters on party camps which at the lower range of the party could not be defeated.
The other way is for players to stop buying gil, once demand lowers they will realise that there is no point in trading in FFXIV, and would therefore vanish. The latter is the easiest and most cost effective way, but people won't stop buying most probably out of laziness.
Any account based restrictions can be easily overcome by rmt by making a new account. They add a level limitation to /tells bot some FATEs, add a quest for them, they could set up a bot to do the quest, all they need is the NPCs and map coordinates and which mobs they might need to kill, and which (if any) items the bot looks out for. Any IP or Mac address restrictions can be overcome in seconds by changing, or spoofing said addresses. -
