I dont think this is specifically from PSO, I know WoW has rare bosses too, but it would be neat, particularly if they were hiding in some room most people would skip. Might encourage more people to go through every part of the dungeon
With PSO, rare 'bosses' weren't hidden anywhere. You always had the boss at the same point. But the exact example that comes to mind from PSO is when you fight your first boss, De Ragan, who was a fire-type dragon. He could sometimes spawn as an Ice dragon with different loot iirc. It's been a while since I played my little FOnewearl.
I liked PSO. :) I don't remember rare bosses but I do remember the rare enemies that dropped special rare loot. Iirc the bosses changed with difficulty. But I'd love to do Haukke HM and wind up fighting another boss instead of (or after?) killing that succubus queen.
All PSO bosses were different on the highest difficulty. They were always the same every single time on all difficulties lower than max. Rare rappies were a thing though. Gosh I miss the PSO days.
you know.... FFXIV 1.0 had this too
that one empty room in totorak? yep that is one example
Some of the older wow dungeons had/have rare spawns, not necessarily bosses though. This actually wouldn't be a bad idea. It would be nice to see something like this in the zones themselves too.
Id like this a lot :D
they could you know.....move some hunt monsters into dungeons as rare spawns. imagine strolling through lost city then....holy crap thats a huge gremlin!
You could have pretty much just said, "Everything" in the OP and gotten my support...
Well... Except for dying and dropping your weapon as per the first incarnation... That was bad...
Or the relative lack of interest on SoA's part...
Or the team/guild bollocks from BB...
But everything else...
That said, rare enemies would only work here if they changed the loot system to not follow the standard "Only bosses matter" approach, and instead had the chance for ALL types of enemies to drop something of note.
They'd also need to improve the game's itemization so that items actually would have some reason to be notable as well though. Otherwise it'd just fall flat.
Much longer dungeons with progression of levels/stages would help as well. Preferably hot-joinable...
So yeah... Back to my original point; scrap this and give me PSO. >_>
PSO2 is great with this though.
The first free-mode forest always has a Rockbear as the final boss. But once in a while it is replaced by a Rogbelt, who is a little bit bigger and tougher with a diffirent move set and better gear.
But the thing i would like most is, very very rarely after beating a dungeon in PSO2, a second teleporter will appear and takes you to a mysterious island. I've gotten an island with nothing but Frog Rappies (all dropping cool loot) before, but there's supposed to also be some rare bosses and things appearing once in a blue moon.
There's also a tournament where people have to kill a number of monsters and/or clear a dungeon in the fastest time. and you see what times people put down to beat. The top ranks get some nice rewards once it finishes i believe.
I'd love the idea of having rare monsters in dungeons, or Hunt monsters related to the area said dungeon is in...of course not S ranks lol, or both! (this wouldent stop the hunt monsters from spawning in the open world, naturally. i don't agree with 'moving' them there)
Another thing i wish they'd do is give all trash mobs a low % of dropping either the mats we currently get from boss chests...or equipment we rarely ever get. that way trash mobs could be more useful too.
what would these Rare monsters drop though? in PSO,U,P,2 they usuauly could drop different, stronger weapons. maybe an extra chest at the end of the dungeon?
