So is their a downside to buying this?

OK, so me and a single friend play this game together and we are saving up for a cottage at the moment. I know personal housing is coming but itll probably be expensive and we thought we could just get a FC house together and buy personal rooms within it. We dont need a large FC as we do everything through DF and friends, is there any real downside to buying a cottage/making an fc for just two people?

It has been said that they will make single player housing cheaper than FC housing, but we don't know anything more than that. There isn't much difference as it stands now but I'm more likely to invest time (and gil) in a house that I alone possess.

Then FC housing is probably your best bet. :P It's just a matter of getting enough gil which isn't hard to do. There isn't a downside if it's what you prefer.

Downside? I can't think of any, unless you count spending the money? You get extra storage with the FC storage when you make/rank up your FC, your house of course once you buy it, cheap teleport to your house with mini-aetheryte, can buy vendors for your house (which actually has a lot of useful crafting items for low to mid-range recipes), gardening, soon you'll have chocobo raising, and of course you get to decorate your place. I have an extremely small FC of only RL friends so I can say from experience there was no real downside to buying a house.

Anyone know how long it would take to solo a FC up to Rank 6?

Took about 2-2.5 months with just two of us. Keep in mind you can only get FC points from HQing items, HQ gathers, fates, quests and levequests. Nothing you do in a dungeon counts at all. That 2 months was not rushed either so I imagine it could go faster if you devote yourself to doing stuff that increases rank. (Quests, high lvl leves and high lvl fates seemed to give the most points)
Maps also count! :D

If one or both of you one day want to join another FC to do endgame, for example, you'll lose the house. That's the only downside I can think of.

took me roughly 5 months to solo my fc to rank 6.
i wasnt in any rush though since my goal at the time was to save up for a medium house (see: huge for 1 person)
gave up towards the end and just went for a small :(

i could see 1 person doing it in 2+ months if they were very dedicated. i never did fates.
just casual crafting & gathering for SB'ing purposes, daily GC turn-ins and any quests available (new patch quests, leveled another job, daily beast tribe)


As to the OP:
the only downside really is the fact that if the two of you decide to take more than 35 days off together, when you return you will find yourself homeless and potentially FC-less.

I'm in a small FC, at first we were just four people who came from another game, two of them quit, by then I was starting to save for a small house, but I found it a bit too small compared to medium and large and personal rooms were already announced, so we wanted to see the restrictions of each house size, three more people joined us (from another game) and one of the founders came back, we again discussed FC housing but again decided to delay it to save for personal housing and for the previous reasons, until recently when Yoshida pretty much confirmed chocobo raising will be exclusive to FC housing and there will be no limits based on house size for personal rooms, on top of none of us actively making gil, thus little progress for a medium house, we decided to move forward with small.

Outcome? We don't regret buying a small house, even though it looked small at first it actually holds more items than I thought, we managed to put many items down in both floors and still not even close to reach the item limit, with chocobo stables coming next month I think most people should settle with small houses, they are not really as bad as they look and you can always make use of personal rooms later on.

FC > personal,airships <.< i don't think you can do that with a personal housing, and the way SE is implementing FC housing it will be a need in the end so buy it, also with a personal house you'll have a instance just for you and your friend, a FC house will be shared with more ppl and i'll feel more alive.

We have a small FC house for 8ppl and it's more than enough, we have the basement full of beds and a hot tub lol, but we will have it free for w/e once SE releases the personal rooms.

My FC would love a house and we have the money for it.. just not the space to buy it lol..
