Seriously we can't play like this. Its so slow. .-. Please do something.
Here is a list of threads that are related to this problem in the last few days. JUST to give you an idea of how many people are affected with this problem.

Yeah. It's getting to silly levels.
I've been one of those lucky few with literally no issues since last year. That all change two days ago.
Every 5-10 minutes, 90K. If lucky, every 30 minutes.
Do something SE
This is not normal considering that we even pay. and it happens everytime here si a new patch
this has been going on for me for the past 3 days. maybe longer but it is much worse today. it happened a ton earlier. at one point it literally would disconnect me the second I logged back in. I finally just had to stop. you usually can feel yourself get disconnected before it happens too I've noticed. hopefully they get it fixed soon.
Other than calling Level3 and yelling at them, and calling whatever ISP owns the faulty hub, Square can't do anything. This is a structure issue and it's starting to affect other MMOs as well; elsewhere on this board someone posted several Guild Wars 2 forum links from people with the exact same problem.
will they sort out the servers it is getting that bad
Like I said literally right above this post, this isn't related to SE's servers; in fact, several other games are affected in the same way, most notably Guild Wars 2. This is a problem with the systems that carry data from your machine to SE's data center in Montreal, and those systems are neither owned nor operated by Square Enix.
they should report the server issues or do something about this with the provider the servers is with
unless it's a peering issue between Ormuco and the Tier1 Network providers (TATA, Level3, Cogent, etc.), there really isn't anything that SE can do about it because it would be either on your ISP's peering exchange, or something internal with that Tier1's network. Either way, your ISP can and should work something out because they are the ones that entered into an agreement with that Tier1 to gain access to the "cloud" that is the internet.
If it is a peering issue between your ISP and the Tier1, they either need to work out a better connection (typically, their current connection is overly congested and dropping packets) or they need to switch you guys over to another Tier1 provider. If it is internal to the Tier1 provider's network, then the ISP needs to lean on them to address their issues as it is impacting the quality of service they have agreed to, or your ISP can again switch you to another Tier1 provider.
If it is something that is happening at Ormuco's peering exchange, then it can fall into SE's court to let their ISP know so they may be able to work something out because it is likely that their exchange is getting overly congested. That's about the only scenario where one might expect SE's help with the problem. But, even so... your ISP still has the means to switch you to another Tier1 provider to avoid that overloaded exchange.
So, basically, for your ISP to say there is nothing they can do about it... that's not entirely true. There are multiple Tier1's that connect to Canada that your ISP can switch you to.
Same here on the 90k and lag tonight... I was just doing my mystery map with a few FC mates and I got 90k'd in the middle of the fight... that was 8 minutes ago... they beat the fight (since I never dropped off mumble I got to hear the details). However, the 5 minute timer ended with my still logged in despite me getting 90k'd (3102).
I mean seriously why is my character still in the game for 10+ minutes after I the server stops responding? There goes my daily map. Thanks SE. Please fix this, its been 10 months and its still happens.
Edit: 15 minutes after my 90k then server decided I was no longer in the game and let me back in. Come on...
Yeah, it's starting to get really bad. I don't know what the problem is but they need to fix it. The last few days it's been a lot worse than just a small lag spike here or there, now they are accompanied by disconnects seemingly at random.
Still getting it on our server as well. Doing something simple like riding a mount and seems like I'm moving then 90k, come back and was not where I was when I got 90k. Accepting levequest and can't accept then can't close the menu, wait a few min and it catches up. In a dungeon and everything just freezes then all of a sudden it's in fast forward catching up with the actions that took place while I was frozen and soon after 90k.
Edit: just doing a levequest, froze came back and dead, now I've lost an allowance as well. Come on SE there is no reason we should be having these issues at this point and for as long as it's been going on.
If any of you have a PC or play on the PC, follow the instructions here (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...relating-to-it) To get your Servers IP and do a PingPlotter trace. It should tell you if your getting packet loss or not.
If your getting packet loss, chances are it's LEVEL 3 / WATA / IWEB. These routers are in montreal and apparently have lots of issues right now with packet loss.
This is completely out of Square-Enix hands. The only thing they can do is reach out to these companies and have them fix their routers. It doesn't seem to be anything related to the Square-Enix DataCenters for FFXIV. It has to do with how people are being routed to the Montreal server by their ISPs.
I'm not getting the 90k error, but I'm getting strange movement lag.
In instances I am affected the most, my character studders when I run and I can just barely move at all most of the time. My abilities don't seem to be affected as I see no delay and I've seen this happen to others (alot of the time the whole group) so it isn't just me. I feel like a slow turtle-like-penguin, wobbling xD
I move with my mouse and at first I thought that was the problem, but I tested it in many other online games and nothing was wrong, my internet connection is totally fine, actually working really well considering the heat outside atm.
It all started after the patch hit :S
It doesn't matter what ISP you have if they get routed through the same routers LEVEL 3 / TATA / IWEB your going to have 90k and disconnection issues due to packet loss. When you connect to a server it has to travel the internet, the route in which it takes to get there can have faults such as packet loss. This is exactly what is going on. That's out of Square-Enix control. The ISP's need to communicate with these companies to get their hardware fixed or upgraded. I was right in saying that's its really out of Square's hands. They cannot control how customers transverse the internet to their Data Servers. The only thing they can do is possibly have another Data Center outside of Montreal. I'm sure their servers are working just fine and to them there is nothing wrong. Unfortunately, a lot of us are having issues with packet loss due to the fact that their servers are in freaking Montreal. Square really should contact Level 3 / Tata / IWeb and have them fix their router infrastructure to get rid of the packet loss for their customers. However, that would leave us at the mercy of Level 3 / TATA / IWEB to address their own hardware issues for the packet loss.
As an example, if you look at the image below you can see the path that my computer takes to connect to the Adamantoise Server. You'll notice it gets bounced around quite a bit and once it reaches Montreal routers it gets packet loss BEFORE it reaches the Square enix Adamantoise Server.

You can find more details to perform a test of your own here (http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...relating-to-it)
If you were in Canada, you would be less likely to be impacted, since the servers are already in Canada. The US more or less only has a handful of paths to take to get into Canada. The big 3 top tier ISP's (TATA, Level3, Cogent) all of our "last mile" ISP's (TWC, Comcast, etc.) mostly deal with for getting us into Canada have 8 routes between them (according to their last published maps)... 2 via the northwest, and 6 via the north east. So, when just one of these paths goes bonkers, it can affect a LOT of people. And traffic is steadily on the rise for the regions in question (the majority of this traffic goes through the North East corridor, as in New York or Massachusetts). I presented an overview of this to demonstrate the impact recently in another thread where I linked to the actual maps so you can see the routes I'm referencing.
Have to keep in mind also that it's not just gaming traffic impacting these routes. People are steadily trading in the traditional video services and switching to web based delivery methods (SmartTV, Consoles, Rokus, AppleTV's, etc.) resulting in ever increasing demand on these routes. You can easily see the traffic patterns ebb and flow if you view usage maps at sites like Akamai or downdetector.
http://www.akamai.com/html/technology/dataviz1.html
http://www.akamai.com/html/technolog...try/index.html
http://downdetector.com/companies
(the usage index by industry is interesting, as you can filter by region and type of traffic, and there is a graph showing recent hourly and monthly history).
Should also note that if you are in the US and dealing with services hosted in the US, you may not even be touching these top tier ISP's congested routes to get there---your ISP might even have a direct peering agreement with that service's ISP, or even the service itself if it has a strong enough demand and established network presence in the area to justify the investment.
Because of the tight situation in the North East that is handling not only the local traffic there, but a butt load of international traffic (traffic comes across the pond from the UK and such, as well as Canada to the north), a handful of last mile ISP's have been in a pissing contest since the first of the year after new regulatory rules were made that has prevented our ISP's from being held accountable to their consumers demand on the internet as a whole---Level3 has filed a formal complaint about it, more or less pleading with the regulators to change the rules so they more or less make these last mile ISP's play fairly--as in upgrade their peering agreements to better accommodate the needs of both the network providers and their own customers. As it stands right now, the Teir1 providers get all the heat because the Tier2/Tier3 users are not implementing enough ports/bandwidth sufficient for the demand put forth by their customers. The Tier1 fiber can handle the load just fine---but the exchanges set up by the Tier2/Tier3 peers (our ISP's) are buckling under the demand of their customers.
Here is a link to a blog post going into more detail about the issue, as well as a link to the brief if anyone is interested:
“Chicken” | A Game Played as a Child and by some ISPs with the Internet
(I must give credit to Xruptor for this find. This blog was linked from an article that was linked here:http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2180728) It is all a very interesting read for those who really want a better understanding of the situation and want to take a more proactive stance with their ISP to try to push for changes.
So, basically... the fault ultimately lies in our ISP's for not setting up robust enough links to the "cloud" that is the internet.
Edit:
Spotted some signs of potential wonkiness from within Ormuco that might be worthy of investigation when playing with Level3's looking glass. Submitted a ticked to SE about it, still need to dig a bit to see if I can do the same to Ormuco. Might be something some of you want to tinker with to see if you spot the same weird spikes I did on the other side or not:

Neither am I, I actually live in Illionois. No matter where you live in the United States the Square-Enix servers are still in Canada. So your connection has to be routed there. (This MAY or may not be different for some folks outside of the North American continent.) If you followed the guide I posted earlier in grabbing your server IP and using pingplotter then you should notice that your connection goes through Level 3 switches. That or you may be one of the ones where it goes through IWEB / TATA.
I've been following these threads for a few days now trying to diagnose my own connection issues. I haven't really gotten a report showing packet loss, but of course usually the lagging and dropping ends right about when I start running tests. I just found my server's actual IP from http://www.arrstatus.com/, and it appears I get run through the dreaded Level3 servers as well. It appears even the European servers are in Montreal.
