Im a bit troubled because i want to change my old laptop
Samsung i5 @ 2.4 GHz/6 Gb Ram/1Gb dedicated Video Card (Nvidia Gt540M DDR3)
Right now i play the game with the lowest settings (I don't want to force better quality and lower the performance of the laptop)
And im thinking to get a Lenovo Gaming Laptop IdeaPad Y510P. It has an i7 4th generation processor 2.4 GHZ up to 3.4 GHZ/8GB Ram/2 GB Dedicated video Card (Nvidia GT755M DDR5)
(BTW i know that there is another model of the IdeaPad Y510P with a NVidia GT755M DDR5 Sli with 16GB, but sadly that laptop is not in my country in any kind of retail store or specialized store)
That Laptop would be enough to run the game with high quality settings without sacrificing the performance of the laptop??? :confused:

but yes that laptop will be fine to play this, may not max it out at constant 60 fps, but its decent enough specs, the only laptop gpus really better then that one is nvidia 765 m/860m -

Regardless of my personal thoughts, Asus as a line for gaming "Republic of gaming."
But looking into it. There current flag ship laptop doesn't come with the Nvidia 880m -

As for no laptop for gaming the new Asus ROG JZ with the 880M is pretty beastly... both in performance and price though. You can get a gaming laptop in my opinion but it will cost you a pretty penny to get up to an average gaming desktop's performance level. Nothing Mobil can compete with a decked out pc though. -

I don't recommend gaming laptops unless they're unavoidable. They tend to have short life spans....very short. This is due to the extreme stess they are put under that manufacturers more or less try to ignore. If you're going to serious game on a laptop factor in extended warranty.

a 765m is about a 460gtx ish... which is a fairly popular model and scores a good 30-45fps on high/maximum setting in ARR currently. (was it like ~4000 on the ARR bench?)
the 550M scores so low btw you might as just stick in an intel...the different is ...meh.. -

I had one of the ASUS ROS G55 as well, it don't even get hot at all when I play FFXIV all day. I had it for 3+ years and it still running great (all credits goes to the giant fans).
However, I still want some portability out of this laptop, so currently I'm also keep my eyes on ASUS N550JK, also maybe with low possibility ASUS G56jr (rare in US tho)
I think N550JK can run preset "laptop high" should be no problem.
MAYBE I'll consider MSI, but you know just maybe...I'm not that trust them yet. like MSI GT60. but 100% no Lenovo...unless it's a Thinkpad -

For the moment is kinda hard for me to buy 1 online (I know that's way cheaper that way), but i don't trust shipments and using the warranty in case of a problem would be annoying...

Sorry if this has already been answered... but does it really NEED to be a laptop? I strongly suggest a desktop for serious gaming, and maybe you could get a $300 or $400 laptop for some little rinky-dink gaming on the go. Steam has lots of games that work well on very basic laptops, and there are also those less-than-ethical gaming methods.

if you're like me and don't like huge 15-17" laptops, the 13" Clevo W230SS should suit your needs pretty well. I got one a couple weeks ago, plays ffxiv at 1080p with no issues.

Don't Listen to the people telling you to avoid gaming laptops. I haven't touched a desktop in years since I made the switch and have no plans on going back. People claiming they don't last probably have no idea how to take care of a computer (In my house we have a 6, 5, 5 and 3 year old laps and all of them still run perfectly). If you ever plan on going anywhere or taking your computer anywhere at any point in the future, laptops is definitely the way to go.
Personally, Asus and Lenovo are the 2 brands to look for when buying one. You don't need a RoG to play games, the entertainment line works just fine (Like the one you have). You won't be seeing super high framerates at max settings unless you want to overwork the lap, but its enough to play the game at a comfortable level.
I always use this 2 websites when checking the GPU, so far they look fine.

You should be fine. It's more important at this point to check the build of the laptop itself. Like overheating/exhausts and whatnot. -

Honestly the only problem with gaming laptops is the increased price tag, I was using a high performance laptop to play FFXIV since 1.0 alpha, this was not a gaming laptop, it didn't have the increased cooling and airflow you would get in a gaming laptop. I have just recently upgraded to a laptop that runs ARR on max settings at 30+ fps.
Most people who say "Stay away from gaming laptops" have probably never touched a gaming laptop. With modern technology chips can run hotter without damage, and laptops are easier to cool. Saying that I do admit you can't beat a desktop, but if you need portability then a gaming laptop will more than suffice. -

Of course this isn't counting the built in wear and tear aspect. (many gaming laptops have complaints of broken keys, which is pretty obvious as all keyboards have a lifespan on number of presses) -

I'd also recommend Asus ROG laptops, as far as bang for your buck and laptop cooling goes they have it in the bag. No other laptop on the market has cooling as good as the ROG laptops do, pair that with a cooling pad for $50 and you'll never overheat that thing. The only con I would say is the sheer size and weight of the system but that's expected with gaming laptops anyways. Asus has ROG laptops anywhere from $1000-2500 and they're always putting them on sale so keep an eye out for the sales and you'll get a great deal.

Mobile video cards never seem to pack the same punch their desktop brothers can. That said, yea that Y510 should def be able to run the game and its a smart buy if ur looking to stick with a laptop. I have a few issues with it.
1) Unless you are able to get the GT 755M SLI version, the single GT 755M is CRAP. I'm serious. I had a free Alienware 14 given to me, it came with the GT 750M which is slightly, really slightly behind the GT 755M. You can never run high settings on full HD with that, it gives you really crappy frame rates and performance and stresses the GPU a lot. I was in Japan during 2.2 launch and that was the only gaming laptop I had and I had to make do with low settings to get some acceptable game play. But low settings doesn't bother you then yes, GT 755M can produce 30-45 FPS on low settings, at 1080p full screen.
2) It runs on a... wait what, 5400rpm HDD? What again. 5400rpm, you kidding me? Most people are actually using SSDs these days for faster load times. I haven't been using a HDD for years but I have friends telling me the load times for FF14 ARR differs quite significantly on a 7200rpm HDD vs a Samsung EVO SSD. And a 7200rpm HDD is really a bare minimum for a gaming laptop. IDK why the crap Lenovo puts a 5400rpm there.
For a smooth and enjoyable FF14 ARR experience on 1080p I would recommend you to look at at least:
4th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-4700MQ (like 90% of the gaming laptops are on this, so not an issue finding one)
GTX 765M and above (for high settings on full HD). The replacement model is GTX 860M but GTX 765M is still good to go
Samsung EVO SSD 120GB for OS and prog/game installation
16GB RAM
Look into the chassis design especially heat sinks and how it dissipates heat. Some designs are so terrible that heat causes the machine to get sluggish and wasted any good hardware installed. -

It's fun that 2 days after warranty ended, the first "bad" crash happened and since then, I have to play using a software that "underclocks" my video card and I've already taken off all the dust and re-applied thermal paste. I have to play hoping it won't randomly crash and make me force-restart the laptop (it takes nearly 5 minutes to be fully operational again with Win7 x64 and more than half of the HD free). ¬¬Quote:

Asus laptops are that good yes. Asus has the advantage that they are a Motherboard manufacturer, so they can design their layout however they want cheaply. It's the main reason their laptops are cheaper and more stable. They focus a lot on spreading the heat evenly too, which further extends their lifetime. If you go to a store, most Asus Laptops will have a blue sticker on them that reads "Ice cool" or something among those lines.
On my personal experience, I can't recommend it enough. It's got to the point where my house has 4 Asus laptops, and I got 3 friends with at least one. All of them still work. The only one on top of my head that had any issue was the fully loaded RoG one because my friend overclocked the shit out of it, and it killed the battery. Short of that the lap still works flawlessly. -

I couldn't play anything short of Starcraft on the lap, which saddened me whenever I couldn't access my desktop. When it came the time to upgrade, I decided I wanted to have an able laptop, and went with that. Now I have the best of both worlds. Upgrading my rack looks like a waste of money to me now, and it's currently collecting dust under my desk. It's primary use now is simply as a glorified hard drive backup for my laptop :p -

You'll find the 660m in there, along with the 9800, the 770m and even the freaking 880m. They are all listed as high-end cards and more than capable of running every single modern game at high settings. Heck, anything from the High-Mid card range right now could run FFXIV smoothly.
So yes, you are overestimating gaming rigs. To give you an idea, my old laptop had a freaking 220m and it can still play Tera and FFXIV just fine.
All my friends are gamers. We like to get together for LAN parties. We can do that because our amazing gaming rigs are portable. Some things are just not the same trough steam/mumble. I assumed a supposedly pro-gamer like you would understand that.Quote:

The difference is night and day. To even compare the two let alone even consider a 7 year old card to be high end is laughable...
Also...crysis came out in 2007....and it was a poorly optimized game at that. It's hardly the benchmarking beast that it once was. GPU's now a days don't even break a sweat running that game.
