Is there any actual PVP in this game? PvP Player vs Player not Party vs Party

Hi, I have yet to find any actual PVP in this game. Here's my idea on how to fix that. (assuming I'm not overlooking it and there actually isn't any PvP)

Point 1: Every MMO I've ever played has PvP as in Player vs Player except well FFXIV.

Point 2: How is it supposed to last without a Healer? Well, that's simple.
A. A bit of a Damage Nerf for Player vs Player only. Not for Party v Party.
B. Potions - They are nearly useless as is players either sell them, or have stacks of them from what I've seen.
C. What if the timer for next potion use where severely dumbed down for Player vs Player only, however you could only bring like 5 or 10 potions of . . each potion in Ex. (10 hp/10 mana potions, and like 3 slots for Ex 1 food 1 dexterity and one Vitality potion.

D. BAM! We gain an effective PvP system and make one of the most useless items in the game extremely useful.

Point 3: How will we attract players to this new Player vs Player system over Party vs Party?
A. Don't worry friends always want to test themselves against each other. It will be used.

Point 4: Ok, it will be used so how do we keep it active? Well this is simple as well.
A. For casual players who just want to test their strength there should be a fun mode. Where nothing is risked or gained other than the satisfaction of . . beating your opponent.
B. Staking: Players can stake items or gil on the fight, and the winner receives the other players stake. This will keep it insanely active because it's a good . way to make gil all while having fun.

C. During these staked fights players who win could also be granted a sum of points to your liking for the use in the PvP shop just as you would for a Party vs Party fights.

In conclusion, I believe this would be a wondrous update for the game . Sparking a challenge in player all throughout Eorzea. Also, it would make use of these potions that no one uses and there wouldn't be useless retainer/inventory slots being filled by them. If you read all of this I thank you for your time. Also, sorry if there is an actual one vs one pvp and I just overlooked it, or have not been alerted to it. If that is the case please proceed to remove or lock this forum thread. What do you want just 1v1? Just ask for duels then. Most games don't have much of a 1v1 because it's insanely hard to balance competitively, that's why duels don't have rewards in other games. Party v Party can however be balanced, it's why WoW, Rift, LotRO, TSW, GW2, TESO, SWTOR, all had a party based pvp no matter the specific details, and had no duels or no rewards for duels.

That's exactly it, but most of the games I've played have some sort of duel system. TERA, Runescape, Dragon Nest, Aura Kingdom, Remnant Knights. The pvp for those seemed fine to me. Obviously, it would takes a little tuning to be perfect, but so does everything in the game. That's why things get updated every week, and they still have animation delay's which they apparently seem to be neglecting which is almost a game killer for me, but they still need to tune that right. So, basically, it won't be perfect obviously but I'm sure other people want it just as well as I do. So, why wouldn't you have such a thing. Also, the rewards could go towards player vs player items only if it were such an issue, but I assumed you'd just use the currency and items of party vs party in player vs player fights.

i hope anybody sees this cause i cant post new threads, so im thinking about pvp in ffxiv and it sucks, win traders are killing the pvp since its a grind pvp, it gets boring pretty fast, so frontlines is coming in one month, i think sorry all legit pvp players but its for the greater good of the game for pvp, to make the armors they have only like skins, rare ones or make new items so that ppl with high rank gets something amazing but not something that will make pvp unfair, something flashy maybe but not that op gear that owns everybody for the rest of the players, trying to make this more skill based pvp rather than gear pvp, a good idea as well is to make healers heal less in pvp, and make potions have lower cd so that pvp is not about healer, if healer dies its gg, f healer has low gear its gg, man yoshi p use ur head for this, pvp would be more skill based and fun, the diff between the gear of pvp is super huge and thats not acceptable,

1v1 is for fun. But in no game I have ever played has 1v1 EVER been balanced, and never will be. As it stands now classes are fairly balanced in 4v4 which is pretty damn rare(assuming all equal player skill, all equal ranks, and all equal gear)

And how is 4v4 not pvp.. it's still player vs. player, in parties yes, but it is more pvp than 1v1 possibly ever could be... Most players in most other games don't even consider 1v1/dueling real pvp, since it's usually imbalanced.... Try 1v1ing lets say.. A MRD as a BRD... yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

@Epsitane There are plenty of games with balanced pvp, and ways to balance pvp in this game. Maybe you should diversify the games you play so you can find one with a balanced 1v1 sytem. You may really enjoy it. Also, several people see "not balanced" because they fought a player of a higher caliber than them.

Point 2: How is it not pvp. Ask people what PVP means. They will say Player vs Player all day long, not Players vs Players. Hence it's not PVP in my eyes even though it can still be initialed the same way.

How would BARD vs MDR be balanced. More stuns for bard, and most counters/stuns for Bard. For instance, Bard can stun and run for their DPS, but when the MDR breaks free or counters and manages to land a stun on the BARD he'd be able to deal decent damage. Also, if the MDR lands a successful counter he could gain a speed boost which would help him catch the BARD. With these mechanics it would take skill to master counters and proper times to stun/bind/or even silence.

Also, MRD could also have the moves to hit ranged as well for when they are frozen such as when a tank aggro's a certain enemy. Just make it do damge if you're that worried about it.

Also, why must people be so bashful about it. They should put it in and the people who want it, play it, and if you don't want to play it stick to your Party vs Party system or don't do PVP or P's v P's. Why must you try to make a big deal out of other people wanting an aspect in the game that would further their enjoyment of the game.

honestly the way I see wolves den is nothing more than a beta test (a really long beta test) for frontline. if frontline doesn't knock it out of the park it might be time for another game for pvp because there is absolutely no variation in builds to keep you on your toes and without any strong consumables it's almost impossible for a come back in even matches when your healer is down due to how hard hitting and fast the arena is. and I think that's kind of the issue with the idea of 1v1 in this game, the whole game is so based around relying on your team that I don't think 1v1s would be enjoyable or even viable without doing something like making dots break sleep and bind.

don't get me wrong, I'd like to see more balance on the 1v1 level but the only way I could see it is if we get more variation in builds through new classes and new cross class skill or through new consumables that would do stuff like remove 2 dots or something like that.

You'd either have endless SCH v SCH matches or SCH v losing side.

Trying to balance 1v1 in PvP is like trying to balance a queen vs a pawn match in chess. On its own a queen will always beat the pawn (which is why you don't have piece vs piece matches), but in the context of a chess match a single well-placed pawn can take out a queen or checkmate the king. In FFXIV our roles as tank, dps, and healer only make sense within the context of a party such that 1v1 wouldn't even be worthwhile to implement. I'd much rather see SE spend time developing Frontlines and creating new arena maps.

I have played quite a number of games with PvP. And you are taking the term "player v player" too literal there is no difference between player v player or players v players. They are both one in the same, "PvP refers to both. If you want us to be more specific Group PvP then might be a better term. When you refer to PvP that involves only one player against another play then it's usually referred to as "1v1" or a duel.

And Shake0615 couldn't have said it any better. They implemented group PvP and it still needs some major fixes. Would MUCH rather see them add maps, work on Frontlines, make changes so that queue times/matchmaking/trading problems are solved.

That's great and all for 1v1 but then this will COMPLETELY destroy 4v4 balance. With a good MRD/PLD a lot of healers even some of the best ones can be instant gibbed within 30 seconds of a match if everything is timed properly. Giving a stun/heavy for a BRD would mean just soloing healers all day. You fix one thing for 1v1 and it will break several things in 4v4.

TL;DR there is no way to balance 1v1 without destroying group PvP balance, which should be the primary focus. Look at WoW, they've focused too much on balancing 1v1/duels which don't even matter since there is no ladder/rating for it and, and what do you have, constant OP/FOTM group compositions/teams.

These skills would be unique to 1v1 combat. So, you wouldn't be able to use them in team based combat so it would work just fine. Yes, there is a way to balance 1v1 without destroying team based. Do you lack the ability be rationalize things? Just because something is added doesn't mean it has to be available in all aspects of the game. I mean they have PVP gear that can't be used outside of the PVP games, so they can have moves that can't be used outside of 1v1 matches. Thus preserving 4v4 and making way for 1v1 as well.

To all of the people saying you can't balance 1v1 for god sake's please go play at least 1 game where 1v1 PVP is mainly played. There are plenty it is balance-able there is no queen to pawn ratio unless you make it that way. Until, you've played games where a team PVP was a viable option and the same or another game where 1v1 PVP was a viable option you shouldn't be on this thread, because every argument you have will be one sided. Thus, rendering you incapable of building a solid argument. Like that one guy added, Queen vs Pawn he made his point, but he added to kind of support for his point.

My point is in 1v1 with potion use you eliminate the need for a Healer, you're most likely already a DPS, you're healing yourself at your command essentially making you a tank if you're good enough as well. Oh wait, what if you're a Healer, well it's still the same except you sacrifice some of your DPS for the ability to Heal yourself more whereas if you were a DPS you'd only get 10 pot heals plus skill based heals such as second wind. Oh, well, what if your a tank? Let's see you can already beast through some damage with your high def, or parry, plus you can heal yourself, and when you get ready to attack just go sword oath. OMG it was that simple what was I thinking? Well, not all people are skilled enough to play 1v1 pvp were you basically have to take on the role of an entire party alone, so it is not for you my friend, sorry. Stick to the easy life of only controlling one roll.

Clearly, this game's PvP was designed and balanced with a specific party composition in mind so the chess analogy still stands. Creating a 1v1 system would be a complete waste of time when there's so much to be done with what they have in place. I, for one, hope that they keep their resources directed at arena and Frontlines.

By the way, if you want to win people to your cause then I'd suggest you tone it down a bit. You're coming off a bit insulting and that's not a great way to build support in a community.

Fine. I won't try to make anymore suggestions on how this game can attract new players from a whole other gaming environment. You're all to dense to understand it. You can keep your useless potions, and your Party vs Party combat mode, and I won't make any more suggestions on how to improve this game. I tried being kind and backing up my claims with solutions like no other person who has posted has done, but apparently the FFXIV community doesn't respond well to reason. Oh, and you can keep your animation delay of .50 seconds. It's almost laughable how bad it is.

Kind? Doesn't sound like it. Either way, the E3 livestream today made mention of dueling as a possibility to "check DPS" but they said that they do not have plans implement it as a serious system in the way that you're asking. So you have your answer at the least.
