Ground targeting circle unavailable until global cooldown ready.

Could you change ground targeting so that we are able to start targeting ground ability whilst global cooldown is ticking?
As in, whilst global cooldown is still ticking, I can move around my Shadow Flare target marker and start casting the spell when global cooldown timer reaches zero.

Currently you have to wait for global cooldown to finish ticking, start targeting with the marker and then start casting spell.

I don't agree. It could lead to situations where you think a skill is available while actually it's not, then you mash buttons trying to get it to work

They can always have the ground target marker remain purple until the GCD comes up, then it can change to orange signifying it's ready to use. No need for mashing and your issue is completely negated.

The global cooldown is so short that I am bewildered by the fact people think this is necessary.

that is funny. most games have a 1second GCD. this game actually has a rather fast pace of combat for such a long base-GCD of 2.5seconds. there are situations where only pure luck can get you through. i have been in spots where the tank gets hit by a critical, and even if i am pre-casting, i don't have enough time to cast another heal even DIRECTLY after the first before the tank gets a critical hit again. which ends up killing the tank. and there literally being NOTHING i could have done about it... because of the LONG Global Cool Down.


in any case... to the OP here. this is actually already possible. i do it all the time with Freeze on BLM.

The purple marker is for "nope, you can't cast there". If your goal is to allow people to strategically place their cursor in advance, it ain't gonna help.

Perhaps if they add another color, but i really don't see how such a confusing system would benefit us, it makes you lie in wait and do nothing instead of finding other things to do (maybe reposition, or fire off one off GCD skills)

Then taking what you said, change the color to Red/Black/Magenta whatever for when Shadowflare/Freeze/Flaming Arrow are unavailable to be casted due to GCD timer. You haven't run into situations that would benefit from this which is obvious since you just said you can't see a situation that benefits from this change but there are plenty of optimizations that can be done if this change was possible. I don't agree with your point of this change "making you lie in wait and do nothing" since we'd obviously adjust our play to accomodate.

As an example, when a SMN uses Ruin II or Bio, the GCD is triggered and they then spend the next 2.5~ secs unable to do anything with a GCD skill. Under the current system, we can't even see the Shadowflare ground target until the GCD comes back up. With the change the OP wants, I would be able to position exactly where I want my Shadowflare ahead of time before the GCD comes up allowing me to fire it off that much sooner and thus wasting less time positioning the spell.

What I stated and what he confirmed as a bug are two different things. On the one hand he is talking about having a target action that is taking abnormally long to appear after being used (IE you hit action and the target still takes longer than it should to appear) which is a confirmed bug, on the other hand I'm talking about using an instant use ability such as character buffs that is being hindered by the GCD if it is used after a GCD action (IE it won't even let you use the ability until the GCD timer has reset even though it is an instant use ability free of the GCD due to having its own cool down timer cycle).

Is it even really necessary though? Sure, it would improve your DPS just a little, but it's not like it completly breaks the job.

Only an issue really if you're a controller user and can't remember where your ground positioning target was set at.

Jesus are people STILL complaining abut the GCD? Memories of people on the beta forums calling for the game to be delayed because the GCD was a broken system are coming back to me.... Seriously, if the brief delay in abilities is that boring for you, just quit the game already.

Actually this has nothing to do with being a controller user or not if you aren't in a static position while dropping the ground target. In some cases I will put down a ground target (flaming arrow) while moving which means it is important that the skill works as intended so that I can reposition it while moving on the fly and not wonder if it is in the right spot by waiting an added delay that shouldn't exist before dropping it. That affects any user regardless of input method.

Complaints of the GCD and what I explained are still different as well, Gokuhan. You're talking about people thinking 2.5 second waits between all standard actions was considered a bad mechanic in general. Once again, I'm talking about the fact it is broken in the sense it affects abilities that aren't tied into the GCD because they have longer reset timers or context specific resets (DPS buffs, Tank dmg mitigation buffs). AKA abilities that are instant use with long cool downs that show as "available" even during GCD but still don't allow you to activate if used while GCD is in its 2.5 second reset cycle. IE: If I use Skull Sunder then want to use Vengence right away it won't activate until the swipe around of the GCD even though it is an instant use ability. Alternatively, I don't see this issue with moves such as Mercy Stroke or brutal swing, just when trying to use a buff action after using an attack.

When it isn't following GCD abilities they function fine, but following a GCD ability will cause them to not work until the GCD swipes around again. Once again, misconstrued what it was I was talking about.
