So I'm returning to the game after a good few months. I'm a level 23 Pugilist, and I have literally no idea what I'm doing. I mean I'm just doing quests. I have no direction. I remember working towards a new class? An upgrade path or something? Pugilists become something else or whatever, I remember that much. I'm not sure about the housing thing, at all, I don't know a thing about these guilds or groups or whatever they're called in this game. Crafting is a book in an alien language to me, and I'm just lost. I just bought 2 months for the game, and I feel it was a mistake because I feel like I'm just questing, I have nothing really to work towards.
Can anyone point me in a direction? I'm sure there's end game content and such that I'd love to get and what not. Maybe tell me what the most populated NA server is or something so I'm not totally alone like I feel?

At level 30 Pugilist and level 15 lancer you get your job of Monk. It is a advanced form of Pugilist. Housing is only for Free Companies at the moment which is what guilds are in this game.
My suggestion is find a free company that caters to new players so you have people to play with and help out. End game starts at 50, you just need to follow the quests and level up. Once you hit 50 and unlock the raids and dungeons things get fun and more open.
Crafting is a confusing animal to many, me included. You don't need it if you are part of a good free company many will be happy to help you out with what you need. -

Free companies are server based. The easiest thing to do really is ask in /shout if there are any FCs for helping low level players. When someone Whispers you, examine his Free Company (either by right clicking his name, or typing his name in Player Search, can't remember) and see if they have a half decent number of players. You don't want to be joining an FC that has like 10 people most likely.

You should be doing your class quests available at your guild every 5 levels (PUG is in Ul'dah, across from the Immortal Flames area). At lvl30, you get a quest that is locked out unless you also have Lancer at lvl15. I'm not sure on most populated NA server, but the social aspect of the game won't really come out until you start running dungeons, which are required for the lvl15+ Story Quests. I'm not sure of the population of Cactuar or where to find that kind of information. Does joining a FC mean I get my own house or does the FC have a house for everyone in it? I think I get crafting but I'm not sure which is better; gear from the Grand Company Seals things, or crafting random stuff from different jobs. Then again I'm confused about this game in general, I feel my ability to process the information about it is...difficult. I'm just confused. Also I don't really understand the difference between my class and my job... -

So I guess now I have 3 questions. If say I have an ability crossed over from a Gladiator class for my Pugilist, does that mean my Monk can't use them? And secondly, are there some must have skills or good ones I should cross over for both Pugilist and Monk? And once I become a Monk, what are the odds that I'll be switching between different classes, because from what I'm hearing Monk is just gonna be better. -

The closest to "messing up" you can get is to waste some time earning something that you don't end up needing. Your monk and pugilist will have different hotbar setups. So, you can give pugilist and monk each their own cross-class abilities you find useful for them.

No, you cannot use GLD abilities you use on PGL on MNK. You do not lose the abilities forever or anything, you just don't have access to them. As someone else mentioned, your PGL and MNK hotbars/crossbars are separate so you don't need to worry about that.Quote:

Also, some of your previous questions, GC gear and gear you get from the main story/dungeons should suffice over most crafted gear. It's nice to have if you have the materials handy, but generally that stuff will be better. Once you get to lvl50, though, the best items are bought with Tomestones of Mythology and Soldiery, or from Dungeons/Trials. Crafted gear can be on par with some of this, but requires Materia and they are both incredibly expensive.
Currently, there are no personal houses, unless you happen to run an FC by yourself and are able to save up a couple million gil on your own haha, so yes, they are for everyone in the FC (though anyone can visit if the settings allow it).
As far as Duty Finder, you just gotta stick with it. You can change jobs while you wait (you will only be able to enter as the job you queued as) so you can level up something else while you wait, do some crafting, do some quests, etc. The other option is to open up a Party Finder entry for that dungeon and wait for people, or ask FC/LS-mates for help. You need to do dungeons in order to progress through the story, so it is very important that you do them when possible. Like I said before too, it really depends on your playtime. I know a lot of EST-time players on Balmung, but for the most part they are available after 5 or 6PM because of work/school. So try to find an FC/LS that will match when you're able to play (daytime or evening EST, whichever works best)
