Sightseeing...

Sucks...

Sorry, but this could have been a nice feature, great even. Instead it's just a case of "Go to X location and wait for time/weather" for the most part. It completely kills the concept in my opinion... I'm not sightseeing, I'm waiting to be allowed to sightsee... If it wasn't for the (best) minion being locked behind this, I wouldn't be doing it at all in its current state...

Would have been much better if you just got a cutscene when we find the location, tie it in with the Echo even; when we get there, we get an Echo cutscene showing us the vista as described (time/weather) in the log. That would have been much more enjoyable, I'd have done that even without the minion reward.

I think many of us are doing it because they like the concept of seeing the world, but... I'm already at my limit. I found a bunch of locations, but I'm not able to complete it because I need the right time AND the right weather...

It would have been perfect without the ridiculous requirements. It's vanity content, so I guess I should have expected this though, the vanity content in XIV is generally more annoying than the "real" content. Behemoth and Odin are the rarest enemies in the game, vanity gear is made with relatively rare materials, etc etc.

It's a shame, I was really looking forward to this... :/

They took this from GW2 lol. It was fun there because it was awesome to look at so many things and it had huge maps.
We have tiny zones and stuff..I already seen just about everything lol.

On reflection, 80 Echo cutscenes might be an utterly ridiculous thing to expect. They could always give the log a NQ/HQ system though; visit the location whenever, get the NQ entry. Visit with the right time/weather, get the HQ one. Then just throw in some secondary achievements for filling out HQ entries.

Or just do away with the requirements completely. The first entry I tried was apparently in the Leatherworkers Guild. It required cloudy weather or something. I found that hilariously sad.

This is clearly an idea that was nice in another game and fails hard in this one.

The idea is fine in this game, it's just their implementation of it that fails.

Had it been a simple case of just visiting the locations without camping time/weather, I'd be completing the log right now, rather than complaining on the interwebs.

I agree completely. The riddles are great and having to find the places instead of them being marked on the map is too, but having to rely on a random factor you have no control over is idiotic. I was expecting dumbed down GW2 jumping puzzles but I didn't even get that.
Concept is nice, execution is awful.

I started doing this as soon as i managed to log in, now after 5 tries to get a single vista in whatever weather/hour the designer decided i''ve given up.

Yet another great idea that was half-arsed by SE. They could have used the resources they wasted on this, for something more useful.... like Chocobo AI.

NOTHING will come between me and my baby apkallu!! It just might end up taking forever if is as bad as you guys all say...

Hopefully with the introduction of weather forecast NPCs, this will be a more laid-back activity than it is now. Personally, I am enjoying the breaks to look around.

I would be, if when I figured out the clue and got to my location, the game didn't go "NOPE! ITS NOT SUNNY ENOUGH!". I'm currently getting all the pleasure of finding the locations, with none of the rewards. It's ridiculous.

After finding a location, and finding out its not the right time/weather/position relative to the moon, I don't really feel like sticking around, since that's a waste of time, nor do I really feel like going back.

It actually put me in a bad mood and turned me off the game. How the heck did they manage to make this so obnoxious? I should have never unlocked it; at least then I'd be leveling my CUL.

Between the obnoxious zodiac quest that I refuse to eve start and this equally annoying "feature", I have never been so disappointed in a patch. Actually, I've loved every patch except this one. Please stop trying to turn me off this game SE!

It would be nice if only some of the locations had an Echo cutscene, too. Maybe the most challenging ones, and you wouldn't know beforehand which ones had the cutscene as a reward. It would be sort of a pleasant surprise when completing some of the vistas (for those who don't look it up on the web, anyway).

Seriously! You sum up exactly how I feel I logged onto the game after it patched, thinking, "Wow, this looks fun! Let's try it out!" Nope, its not. I too wasted an hour trying to complete the unlock quest, decided it wasn't fun, and abandoned it and went to do something else. Maybe I'll pick it up again later when it improves (and the objectives become more clear and there aren't 100 people trying to complete each entry at once, cluttering my screen). Apparently I'm not alone, as I watched many people in my FC and on my server get mad and just give up too.

Great idea, terrible implementation.

I really wish SE would just get over their tendency to make evrything pointlessly grindy or RNG heavy. Seriously, WTF!?!?! This would have been fun if you didn't need a specific weather on top of a specific time as well as a specific emote. Day/night requirement would have been tolerable but X hour + X weather + X emote makes these no fun. I woulda enjoyed finding and figuring most of these out myself but instead I've been forced online to find out what the proper combination of occurences are required to get the log completions. Gg SE way to make casual fun pointlessly hardcore.

Also all the way this was implemented has done is turn those cool little challenging to get to locations into ugly mobs of people camping the time/weather requirements

Welp I'm glad I looked at the forums before attempting this lol, SE ya blew it.

Wait what? The unlock quest requires none of the weather/time restrictions and the game tells you exactly where to go on the map. But yea, the implementation for this log is very disappointing.

You guys really dropped the ball with this SE. Was a good idea, as even in Guild Wars 2 I loved this sort of thing and went out of my way to get them. But having a weather requirement? A day/night requirement would have been enough, since you have to wait like 24 minutes for an ingame day. But the weather? I've been sitting here in New Gridania for over an hour and a half, and it STILL hasn't turned cloudy.

Yep, weather requirements completely ruin this.

I'm not even sure how one is "supposed" to attempt these. Keep a list of the order of times and check them all in order for the right weather every day? Just keep trying one specific entry for weeks until you get it?

I was excited to try it out, but you have to wait for just the right time and atmosphere?

...yeah alright. Just like taking landscape pictures. I can dig it.

That's another problem I have with it actually. Even if you're close, you may never know it unless you look up a guide (which completely ruins the fun imo). I don't want them to clearly mark on the map where to go of course, but they could give us some indication that we're in the right place. Maybe if you do /lookout when you're near, a light ball (similar to the Destinations you get in some Levequests) can show in the right place for a few seconds, then you just need to figure out god knows what meaningless requirement they've attached to it.

SE, making casual/laid back content as annoying/grindy as possible, as usual. I don't see the fun of having to wait in the spot until the right time of the day when, even if you're lucky and get the proper weather while you wait, it might change JUST when you get the correct time (RNG for you). Someone very unlucky could be waiting there forever.

Pretty terrible, and I don't like it for what it is.

The weather change every 8 hours ingame time
00:00, 8:00 am, 4:00 pm, 00:00
Just look for the weather at this times. If the weather don't change to the needed weather, do something else for the next 8 ingame hours.

SE thinks the players don't AFK enough so they just add more AFK content for you to enjoy :D

Yep, there is nothing fundamentally broken with a system that tells you to go sightseeing, and then tells you to do something different because the clouds are in the wrong place.

It's stupid. If I want to go sightseeing, I'll go sightseeing, but apparently I'm not allowed to, because it's not a Full Moon on Darksday. Really, really stupid. This is a game, not an amateurs photography class. Having specific time/weather to enforce a mood is a nice idea, but it doesn't complement the game play, it completely hinders it. Instead of going from location to location finding these vistas and enjoying the process, I'm going from location to location going "Nope, can't do this one because reasons", "Nope, can't do this one either", "Nope", "Nooooooope", "Nope". Do I want to go back just for the right atmosphere? No, not really. I've figured out the clue, I've been there, I've seen it, I may even print a t-shirt while waiting. I've done the sightseeing.

I have visited the location for #6 about a dozen times now. That vista may as well be engraved on my brain, but it's not registering on the Sightseeing Log because the weather is off? It's completely and utterly asinine.

Dude, there's only 20 80(?) of em and you just get a minion for doing it. It's not a high priority task, it's filler and just something to encourage you to see parts of the world the designers think is cool. Don't be stressed that it takes some patience. Figure out when you need to go and make note of it. If you're in the area and the stars are right, go ahead and take a look, but there is no reason to get upset over this. Especially when we didn't even expect it.

Honestly, what reason is there for doing this? It just hinders enjoyment of sightseeing (again, something I was looking forward to). I'm no longer sightseeing, I'm waiting for the right time and weather, even if I'm not waiting at the location. That is not a sightseeing system; going to the location the clues point you to is, waiting for X and Y isn't.

I mean in terms of game progression, which is the main focus in how they've been designing the game.

The reason for waiting is because they want you to see the vista just as they would like you to. Just going to the place to check it off as quickly as possible isn't the heart of the project. It's very much a 'take it easy' kind of content.

Which again, just brings me back to "These should have been Cutscenes". Then they can show me it exactly as they envisioned, maybe even make it better than it would look in game. Although in my opinion that completely goes against the heart of sightseeing, it should be about your interpretation of the vista, which would be enhanced by seeing it with whatever time/weather you arrive there with.

It isn't even a "take it easy" kind of content. It's a "Find the right location, then do something else while waiting for X and Y". It's called Sightseeing. I have seen the sights.

No, it's not something you're meant to check off as quickly as possible, that's why they didn't simply say "Go here", "Go there". They made you think about where the location is, they made you find it. Once you find it, the pointless waiting begins though. Seeing as I now actively have to wait and do something different, it actually is something I want to check off as soon as possible. There is fun in figuring out the location. There is no fun in waiting for the seasons to change. People who want to just check through it will do so regardless anyway. There really is no defense to this awful implementation, though I'm sure that wont stop some people.

The implementation is just utterly at odds with the very concept.

You're going Sightseeing. It's free-spirited and fun. You're getting away from the grind to see things that you've never noticed before. Right?

Nope. You're going Sightseeing, but you will never be allowed to forget that you're doing it on the server's terms. It's nighttime and cloudy? You can only get credit from maybe three spots (oh, and you'll need to either guess what our vague clues mean or use a wiki to know which), and if you've already seen those, tough. Better luck in half an hour or so.

I get that the goal is to make content last a while, but making the content this antagonistic defeats the whole point. Only SE could turn Sightseeing into a chore. :(

Next time I go on holiday, I'll be sure to check the sky before I go sightseeing. Realistically rain might stop me, but by SE logic clouds should too, or lack of clouds. Great Wall of China? Nope, there is a cloud in the sky, doesn't count as sightseeing.

I'm going to stop now, hopefully the community reps can pass on the displeasure with this system, but people defending a system that actively goes "You need to wait for Cloudy weather before you can really appreciate the view inside this building" is getting me more agitated than it should and I've already been banned once.

I will actually concede that some of these would be nice with time/weather requirements, but the vast majority? It's ridiculous. Especially places like the Leatherworkers Guild. One or two that require weather would be nice, something like Urth's Fount during Odin weather is actually great and everyone should see that. At the same time though, such draconian sightseeing guidelines are, in my opinion, stupid. If a guide book said that the Eiffel Tower at sunset was something everyone should see, and people were as draconian at following that as SE is here, we'd miss out on a lot of other stunning views of the Eiffel Tower. Sightseeing should really be about seeing a location through your own eyes, not seeing it through someone else's by replicated the vista down to the last detail...

Sometimes sightseeing at certain times of the day with different types of weather the scene looks totally different and better. Just saying. But i'm sure you're not sightseeing, you just want your rewards and be done with it. lol
