Final Fantasy XIV should be different form the rest of the MMOs coming out.

Since the MMORPG market is extremely saturated Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn has to have either better quality or be different and fill a niche. In order to do that Square Enix should add Final Fantasy RPG elements to really differentiate it from other MMORPS also along with grinding gear this game should have players learning new skills, abilities and traits every other patch from the grand company npcs to add character customization and the illusion of choice.

Not sure if sarcastic or not.

How is learning skills through an NPC different from other MMOs? Off the top of my head I can account for a handful that I've played that were like that. As for grinding gear, I'd prefer the traditional grind (think: XI's grind for NMs) but this one I'm OK with.

And I'm glad 14 is similar to other MMOs. It makes transitioning to other MMOs easier. Recently started playing WoW and felt incredibly comfortable with the controls since 14s is so similar, just the lack of UI customization and favorable addons is getting to me

@OP: WoW had you go to NPCs for abilities. Then they gave you skill trees to give you the illusion of choice. What you want is just like other MMOs.

Well, I would not complain about more RP elements, but other than that I think this game is good as it is. Just look at how it goes for all niche MMORPGs that tries to hard making their own thing. A dedicated fanbase sure, but that fanbase is really really small. I like ARR as it is today. Maybe more RP elements, but hey, they really do more for this than WoW ever have done during over a decade. Sure, RP servers, but that is it. No functions specifically for RPing like housing and marriage.

To actually make worth while, the Devs should have a level cap customize system to give players something more to work on after they hit 50.

I'd love to see something like this as well. They could have it be along the lines of the Merit system from XI.

Also want to add that the market is not really saturated. WoW players will drop that game like flies once the next expansion hits the shelves. From what I have seen it will be hell in Azeroth... People starting the game almost capped... Yeah, LFR will reach new unexplored layers of hell with that one. And lore is getting violated with time travels.

Too bad it launched in such a lousy state that it was universally panned. What we have now is the WoW model, just like pretty much every other MMO on the market. /yawn.

I'd love for add-on support for 14 (Would REALLY love a Recount), but I was more or less referring to how I can't find a HUD/UI add-on for WoW that's not totally cluttered or screws with keybindings (not IceHUD, think something like SpartanUI if you know what I'm talking about)

Nah, I'm good with how it is now.

Yoshida could bring back the option to buy special skills from the guilds with guildmarks (earned by leves)
It got removed because Yoshida thought that too many currency types would confuse the playerbase. Seeing how many currency types we have now in ARR it should be no problem to bring it back.

Name the other mmo's that play on a game station? To my knowledge this is the only one. That alone makes it different than any game out there. SE also protects it art style/bestiary. If anything the other games are copying the final fantasy series. How do you "be different" when everyone sees your success and is copying you?

Actually it's the Everquest Model not the WOW model because the only thing WOW did was copy Everquest and polish it up. It's not that the model is bad it's just that most developers don't add their own unique theme and style with the exception of Final Fantasy XIV

They can add blitzball and give their classes/ jobs more of a Final Fantasy theme to be different since everyone is trying to copy them.

That or let each job branch out to a specialize in an element or fighting style. If it could be done. Like BLM could course on like being a fire mage or necromancy. SMN, Could pick which pet it would be focused on.

well considering a lot of the upcoming mmos are action orientated, and ff is basically wow with chocobos and good graphics, I think it is fair to say ff is different from upcoming mmos....

only thing keeping ff above water for me is the frequent updates and fun- factor that se strive for...

I can play this game extraordinarily comfortably with a controller. The only MMO I have ever played that came even remotely close to the kind of controller comfort FFXIV offers is DCUO, and I'll be honest, as much as I like that game, their controller system isn't really styled terribly well, at least since I played it last, which was about a year ago, before I started playing FFXIV.

That alone is pretty innovative by allowing for a comfortable alternative to Keyboard/Mouse-exclusive gameplay.

And true, there are many MMOs out there that have similar elements to FFXIV, but none of those similar elements are necessarily bad.

I went to play SWTOR as my secondary MMO when I started running out of FFXIV content to do. Not that the content is bad, it's just a teensy bit repetitive because I have way, way, way too much time on my hands and sometimes I need to change things up. I find SWTOR to be enjoyable for the story, but the gameplay... I have a lot of difficulties with it, like holy crap. Maybe I just got spoiled by games like FFXIV and Skyrim, but I just don't feel comfortable playing any MMO without a controller anymore.

Then again, I probably have different criteria for what constitutes a good game than the OP does, so we'll just agree to disagree.

there should be some card mini game, go into mor dhona's bar, challenge players, ejoy, i mean, how many of us did hours and hours on other FF games just playing the mini games? I was so entretained with triple triad FFVIII, we need more mini games, no rewards, just for fun

Have you played any of the MMOs out there? In the past decade, I've played a dozen or so. A few still exist; one launched after FFXIV. Most are long dead and most likely forgotten (Vanguard fans out there? How about Tabula Rasa? Dark and Light?). Believe me, this game is different. From the nuts and bolts to the management, this game is different. That's why I'm more than happy to pay my subscription to SE monthly.

I'm not trying to be a fanboi. I had never played anything in the Final Fantasy spectrum before this game, and I actually started playing as a freelance assignment from a company elsewhere in the MMO game space. I had become jaded from playing a game for eight years and, at the end, wondering what happened to the game I started playing so long ago. I've been jaded from buying into new titles with so much promise but, come launch, they get destroyed as the publisher fires the development team and turns it into a cash cow they can ride for six months then bury.

All I can say is that as soon as I finally got the gestalt of this game, as soon as it sank in, I lost my jaded MMO smirk and found I really enjoy playing this game. I can see elements of some of the best MMOs of the last ten years and I see them improved upon or taken in a different, better direction. And I see things that none of the games I've played had ever thought of, and I see how much the rest of the industry can learn.

It's certainly not perfect, but I'm convinced of the sincerity of the production and development teams at SE in trying to figure out what the next step towards perfection might be. Not in the weekly notices on which accounts got banned, but in the break-neck pace at which new features are being added. I honestly have never seen a game continue to develop and introduce new elements at the pace this happens in FFXIV. Maybe you need to travel away to see how different things really are here. But take my word for it and save yourself some time and some money. This is a good place to be.

They should bring back NMs from 1.0

What WoW doesn't have is cross platform support, and that's the reason why there is no addons, can't be used on PS3 or Ps4.

Addon support for 14 has been on the backburner for ages. But the devs have been totally silent on it lately, but it was a very hot topic back when the game was young. I imagine this has to do with people exploiting second coil

FFXI followed the exact same update schedule as this game does the whole time I played it. SE has always been pretty dedicated to pushing out new content every 3 months. That is also one of my favorite things about this company's development process.

I also would love to see FF-style stats make a return on our armor/weapons, an would love to see 1.0's NM system return.

Or they could add things like:
Gardening.. ooops they added that already
Golden Saucer
Buildable Airships
Chocobo Breeding
.....
Oh wait, they are! ^^ Lot of fun stuff coming that detracts from the Gear treadmill. Can't wait to see what else they are planning.

Our spells should hafta be either purchased or got from farming.
Our skills should hafta be skilled up individually.
Bards should be a total support role with over 20 songs

Yep that would change it :)
