Are we gonna see these spells for BLM in the future ?

One of the best things that makes BLM my favorite in every FF game, is the diversity of their spells , FF7 and FFXI were my favorite
i was wondering if the development team are planing to give us these spells soon or in the future ?
Tornado - Quake - Burst - Break - Comet - Ultima - Metor - Stun - Drain - Death - Gravity or Demi - Dispel

Ultima will probably never appear, given the fact it was connected directly into the main storyline -

being Ultima Weapon's 'final attack', and the spell Lahabrea used to obliterate the Praetorium after all

, so I don't think players will ever have that spell available to them.

The rest, well, anything is possible once the level cap is raised. Bare in mind though that due to the fact the elemental wheel has been abolished, all spells in the game now are effectively non-elemental despite their names, so there really wouldn't be too much to set any of them apart really other than their animation and potency.

Meteor is currently the magic DPS Lvl 3 Limit Break, and I think Comet is Lvl 2. So there's those two. Quake and Tornado would go to WHM if anything if they stay strict with the elements. The rest may be fair game, though SMN/SCH has an ability called Energy Drain, so that may be taking the place of Drain currently.

tornado, quake and other spells like that fit Geomancer more than anything.
Meteor and comet are currently LBs, and normally are time mage spells.
Death and break would miss
Dispel wouldn't work on endgame content.
Ultima is for Ultima weapon.
Gravity/demi usually do fractional damage, so that also wouldn't work properly. But Diablos' attack just does raw damage now instead of having a gravity effect so it probably won't be in here.

Tornado and Quake is delegated to Conjurers... since earth and wind elements tie into their lore for ARR.

Burst break comet meteor ultima is relageted to mob attacks/limit breaks.
Stun... Paladin is in charge of that. (oh you want the spell? No, because the mechanic is already there, you have sleep as a crowd control already).
Drain, prolly darknight exclusive or SMN/SCH already has it.
Death, boss exclusive spike damage mechanic probably.
Gravity or demi MAYBE. The better version of Scathe probably.
Dispel... we already have it for other jobs. And monk has one ilm punch but it hardly dispels anything.

In short, you have to take the nostalgia out of blackmages. Once that elemental wheel was gone, you knew Blackmage isn't ganna be 'traditional'. And begin looking at is as 'what job already doesn't have THAT spell's EFFECT?' and doesn't sound too [Overpower].

*edit* Actually... twintania has death.... sentence :P

We already have an AoE stun, although it doesn't work on dungeon bosses :/

Acheron already uses Quake III.

I can see Ultima being a blue mage lb3 or something.

Monk have a dispel actually, it's not really useful since most of the bosses' buff can't be removed, only place where it works at lvl 50 is against Haukke manor last boss where you can remove stone skin that the arhiman puts on the boss.

You're right. Sorry. Wasn't thinking about removing beneficials from enemies for some reason, only negatives from friendlies. As far as removing magic buffs from an enemy though, that also feels more ACN than BLM in their current versions.

I think I've used OIP more in the Four Winds fate than anywhere else. Someone always ends up stunning the stoneskin cast when I'm in Haukke HM.

Honestly I'm quite disappointed with BLM. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun class. But most classes felt a fair bit different once they took on their Job. BLM got... Convert and Flare. Apoc is alright to toss on the tank now and then but insanely sad as a BLM Job skill, Freeze is bordering on useless (I've used it a grand total of 3 times in dungeons, with a bad group to root them after Sleep wore off, and Manawall... While being one of my favourite abilities, has nothing to do with a BLM. It should have just come at 47 THM or something, seeing as they get Manaward anyways.

Every other class I've played at 50 so far has Job specific abilities that completely change the way you play your class. The only change for BLM is we use Flare instead (or sometimes in addition to) Fire 2.

And to be completely honest, it is the entire reason I made a BLM ;) I saw a BLM standing in Landslide about 4 times in Titan HM and as a healer I was cringing every time and then scratching my head when he didn't go flying. First and only time I've ever seen that from a BLM in Titan. Then I get all cocky and try it. I eat a Landslide no problem, then I think "Hey, I'll stand in this exploding rock and get another 2 or so Fire casts in!" ... Little did I know, rocks are apparently magic damage. Oops :rolleyes:

Id like to see the spells that were removed from 1.0 make a return here. Absorb-STR, dex, INT, etc etc. Also with it there was the ability to transfer those absorbs to another player. I loved that dynamic, and it would actually be kinda cool in ARR. You could absorb some good stats, and transfer(Skill: Initiation) it to one of your DDs while they stack their buffs to do some quick damage. Or absorb VIT, and transfer to your tank right before he gets mountain buster. I miss those spells in particular for some reason. Also would love to see the return of the Re-raise skill to CNJ. Drain and Aspir(Siphon), as well as the various Spikes(blaze, Stygian, etc) Contagion was cool on THM, you could transfer w/e debuffs you had to the monster.

To stressful. Remember that Yoshida thought that an extra click in fishing was stressful, so your idea would go way, way beyond that.

So if what ur saying is true, then BLM is not getting any new spells when they raise the cap ?? >.>

The 1.0 version had the 'ancient magic' set as Conjurer spells including Quake, Tornado, Flare, Flood, Burst, and Freeze. They functioned very differently to their FFXI counterparts though, and instead inflicted a strong DoT instead of dealing damage directly. It's almost hard to believe, looking back, that Conjurer was effectively the 'Black Mage' and the 'White Mage' rolled into one, while Thaumaturge was more based on drain-based heals and stat steals.

Honestly, while I'd like to see them return with a bit better function I feel that elements need to play a stronger role in the game before they will be worthwhile. At the moment, the only thing that defines the elements is what class has which spells. It means nothing to a Black Mage to spam FIREBALLS on a FIRE Primal or a WHM to cast AERO on a WIND primal. Which is just sad. If you tried that in FFXI you'd be expecting Ifrit to absorb the damage, or at the very least take zero damage from it.

Of course, I understand that they needed to make battles a bit more fast-paced and this meant streamlining player skills to a select few which they will use more often rather than FFXI's exhaustive spell list, 80% which are useless by the level cap. Still, I feel elements could still play a stronger role than they do currently and I hope that BLM gets updates to take advantage of that in the future.

Tactical fighting is far more entertaining than simply spamming the same skill cycle for every single target.

XI did fractional/HP/etc based magic and abilities like this just fine. So if they don't listen to the "ew xi in xiv!" we'll see it sooner than later, especially if Musketeer is interesting in any way.

To be fair, they did ONE. And it was a special 2hr (1hr now) ability, and it deals a very small percentage in damage. The original Demi always halved your remaining health.

Edited to add that the percentage based attack also fails far too often to make it worth a footnote in most instances.

Depends on the games. Usually if there's only a demi it does half.
If there's 3 tiers of gravity it goes from 1/4th to 3/4ths.
Then I think one or two games with blue magic had lvl whatever demi that would do either 3/4ths or 7/8ths

Sadly, Gravity is claimed as of last patch by Diabolos. Demi, too, maybe.

So what's with this mentality of, "well if the boss has it, we can't"? Better remove meteor from Behemoth in CT, sense the players have access to it.

To be fair if you want to talk about which job got nerfed the most its the Summoner because they are not even the shell of what they are in single player Final Fantasy titles.

I'd say it's the other way around, "Wow, that level 3 Limit is awesome, lets change it for players to something else and give it to King Behemoth!" That said, though, Meteor is a classic behemoth death throw attack that has ended many a player's game in past titles.

To be fair, if they were they would kind of wreck everything. Basically a class of Limit Breaks :P

Personally I wish Freeze granted Umbral Ice 3 and worked kinda like Flaming Arrow so it can be on par with Flare. I would really like to see Ultima on Black Mages work as a single target spell. Also Burst work as a thundercloud proc that works as a target AoE. Demi and Gravity can work for Black Mages yet they probably shouldn't work as % damage but more of damage with utility.

As for Summoners wish Ruin 2 should be reworked to be more like Lightnings Ruinga. Summoners will really benefit from spells like doom, death, and hell mist since it works with their design that revolves around DoTs.

Yet that's just my opinion on this.

I wish Holy worked like in older FFs so WHM would stop using up all the stuns on enemies where stunning can be helpful.

Totally agree still sad that Paladin's don't get holy.

Well, Holy is a WHM only skill in all FF games (as far as I can remember), so it'd be odd if PLD -could- get it.
