For the currect items leave the ability to use the current repair mats or the new dark matter item. Why not make a flexible system?

/no
In fact, remove the repair system all together. It's a piece of crap to begin with, playing with durability is never fun.
That would really make no sense...why would you use anything BUT dark matter if dark matter repaired everything? The whole point is to alleviate inventory problems.
Still you probably will have to sell the old repair stuff some mobs drop I bet. I really wish there was also more merchants on the field. I hate having to go back to town to sell my stuff. There's merchants at the starting camps, but not at the others, why? ~_~
Last time I checked, dark matter annihilates any normal matter it comes into contact with, so........
... and incoming repair bills could theoretically be interpreted as invigorating the economy...
(just sayin'!)
Fent and spetch and such maybe eliminated all together but they have to revision the crafting recipes that actually use them also. My thing is I hate the current repair system because for some classes it is harder than others to carry all the items around you would need to repair things, so people don't do it, and it causes more and more people to level up crafts just to repair their own crap. If you never wanted to level up a craft, you might not have to now because there's only 5 slots of repair items and the average crafter will have all the ones that encompass their level range. People are just looking for crap to complain about at this point, you can talk to my two retainers hands, since they are at full inventory.
You can't get rid of the repair system in a game where there is practically nothing else to sink the currency that is piling up (not that the repair system is helping that much to begin with, but it's something).
That aside, it makes no sense to have the current repair materials along with Dark Matter. Players are going to use the option that is more convenient.
Who would use the old repair mats with dark matter available? No matter what they say people will always use the most convenient option. Dark matter takes up less space and covers a wide array of items per tier.
Because me carrying around:
Cotton Fent
Canvas Fent
Linen Fent
Velveteen Fent
Boar Spetch
Buffalo Spetch
Sheep Spetch
Toad Spetch
Chamois Spetch
Just to be able to repair friends/LS/Random folks' items is freaking ridiculous. Dark matter for all! And that's just for my two main crafts.
I'd like it if duct matter was implemented as a quick-fix repair item. It could get your gear to 75~80% but in order to repair to 100% full you would need to use real materials.
BTW, was this fix/change on anyone's radar? I don't recall any significant whining about needing a singular repair item on the forums, so my guess is that the Dev team made the change to accommodate other upcoming changes.
Also, what are we supposed to do with those items that are currently only used for repair? Is there no other use for spetches and fents other than selling to NPCs?
This wouldn't be "flexible" as much as it would be "even more redundant than the current system".
The inconvenience and inventory bloat and database bloat that the current repair system causes needed to be streamlined, badly. The dark matter repair system does this.
Normally, I'd agree with this, but due to the importance of the role of crafters in this game, they need to be able to be useful for something more than just making stuff. I think the concept of having player-repairs is a decent one, but it just needs to be implemented better (much like a lot of the other concepts in FF14).
I think the dark matter repair system is a step in the right direction.
(Did we really need to have yet another thread about this? We already covered this stuff in this original thread about the new repair system: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...airing-Repairs as well as in another long, redundant one as well.)
I personally think they should've gone more the route of incentives... i.e. getting an item repaired by a crafter other than yourself gives a small temporary buff to the item. That would also give crafting somewhat of a more active role in battle preparation as well.
No way dude. As someone with like 3 crafts, carrying around all the repair mats would take up like 15-30 inventory slots. I'm a fan of this simplification as much as I liked the old system. I have a feeling all of the old mats will be converted to dark matter, but who knows.
I hope they do convert all old mats to dark matter and I also dont like carrying around tons of repair mats. What im suggesting would allow you to craft purely with dark matter if you wanted HOWEVER on top of that the current repair items could be used also. Maybe all new items added to the game could be dark matter only. What I am suggesting wouldnt MAKE you carry around more repair mats but if you had several stacks like I do you still could use them or you could use dark matter. It could be your choice.
Because everyone interested in a profit would use Dark Matter and normal repair materials still wouldn't sell.
Because it would make the original redundant and pointless waste of inventory space with only a very small minority of people using it.
Theoretically anyway.
I am SO not thrilled that all the skills I leveled (grind grind grind) and stacks upon stacks of stuff I leveled up MIN and BOT to harvest (grind grind grind some more, ad nauseam) are now USELESS. I was so disgusted I just vended most of the stuff except for what I have stored on 6 mules of course. I had plenty of mats to keep virtually anything in good shape for EVER...now I'm back to square one...noobsville. More grinding (yipeee!!!) so I can get the freaking dark matter. I can hardly effing wait. I am beginning to think this game really is going to fail. It's a shame because there was a LOT of potential there. And yes, as an adult (degreed in psychology no less, I am aware of the initial human response to change *resistance* and I'm quite certain that is not what I'm experiencing here--this feels like FRUSTRATION!) ><
dark matter stinks now i have to carry all my crafting mats and 5 grades of dark matter.
so it frees up inv for non crafters and screws actual crafters.........UNLESS.....
someone has a recipe for dark matter
EDIT: after buying some dark matter it dosent seem as bad as i thought.
IDK gonna give it a chance
The weird thing about the way this was implemented is that we immediately went from fent/spetch to dark matter. At least when I found out there were merchants for it, I felt a lot better. Imagine if immediately after the patch we had to go farm it from gathering/mobs? D: Augh.
I'm kinda torn between selling the mats I kept around only for repair or throwing them into an alt (buddy) retainer.
Cotton fent, canvas fent, velveteen fent, copper nuggets, dodoskin spetch, buffalo spetch, chamois spetch just aren't attractive in my inventory anymore.
This. I actually logged right out of FFXIV yesterday because of this. I don't want to spend time lvling up and buying new gear knowing that It'll degrade and i'll have to pay some dickwad a bunch of money to repair my stuff.
I sure as shit am not going to waste my life away leveling up a craft when the crafting system is so horribly piss-poor boring. Sorry, but time is the most valuable resource on the planet, and I don't see any worse way to waste it.
FFXIV will fail unless SE does something about durability, or fixing the crafting system.
In case you missed the real point of the Dark Matter switch:
They can say it it to make the repair system easier and all that (which it does do!), but the driving force behind the change is they needed to start creating some ways to take gil out of the ever-inflating economy. With dark matter primarily being sold from NPCs now, everytime anyone repairs anything, the MAJORITY of the time there will have been dark matter purchased and gil will have left the system.
If you didnt notice they made other gil changes in 1.18 as well. They finally realized everyone everywhere is a multi millionaire.
i dont see any problem with this other then being overly complex. Why would you want a choice of repair mat, if you are doing repairs often i would think you would have dark matter no you more easily then 100's of mats. Like i said im not arguing with you, i just dont see the point.
