Or at least some quests about him.
I find him so damn interesting, easily my favourite NPC in the game.

Whom, now?

Longhaft is one of the protectors and operators of Highbridge, eithera Brass Bladeor a mercenary. Everything about him is a double entendre that says either he's talented at manning the levers and is very selective about his unit, or just that he's very talented with his unit and very selective about who mans his lever.

Ryihito, you just made my day. I didn't think anyone noticed the Longhaft and his band of trained lever-operators.
Hunberct is SO getting himself a ballad to be sung by spoony bards across the realm. I'll let you all know when it's done, and if it doesn't make it's way into the game, I'll make sure it's posted RIGHT HERE.
Au contraire, Ferne! Have a little faith in your little loremongers.
I have to say I'm also fond of the other unnamed NPCs around Drybone that accuse a pair of fair maidens of infecting him of crotch rot or the one hiding in a nook looking to "dip the wick", if ye keen of course.
(I also just saw Ryihito's signature text, and just want to add: "nine nine nine nine John Madden John Madden". Hopefully I don't just sound absolutely mad saying that and at least someone gets it >.>)
aeiou! aeiou! aeiou! uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu...
I was always fond of that quest in the Forgotten Springs where you have to shoo away the people looking at the girls, one of the person's excuse was "Oh I was just looking at this... tree... for science!".
Longhaft and his ladies were not unnoticed, I assure you. I found them quite amusing and endearing, and would certainly enjoy hearing more about them!
Given the way Miqot'e society works (well, the sunseekers anyway), there is a very good chance those two have the same father, even if they are of different mothers.
Such is the way of the nuhn.
In fairness, the Ballad of Hunberct Longhaft could consist of nothing but the words "Hunberct" and "Longhaft" and it would still be all the information we need.
I was out there the other day, and stopped to talk to ol' Hunberct. I found it interesting that not just the two Miqo'te standing immediately in front of him, but all the Brass Blades on the bridge other than Hunberct himself were women.
Hunberct clearly needs his own theme song.

...Can ya dig it?
Who's the cat that won't cop out
When there's danger all about?
(Shaft!)
Right on!
You see this cat Shaft is a bad mother...
(Shut your mouth)
But I'm talkin' about Shaft!
(Then we can dig it)
haha yeah always loved that guy on the bridge xD
Let's re-key the Leviathan song "Through the Maelstrom", shall we?
"Handling the Lever"
---------------------------------
Hunbercht Longhaft Endless!
Hunbercht Longhaft Send us!
Hunbercht Longhaft Breathless!
Hunbercht Longhaft Deathless!
Hunbercht Longhaft Restless!
Hunbercht Longhaft Test us!
Hunbercht Longhaft Tend us!
Hunbercht Longhaft Mend us!
Drifting in the realm beyond all knowing
Forsaken, shedding tears of glass
Now tumbling from the boundless heavens, taken
White moondrops, burning indigo
Hunbercht Longhaft Endless!
Hunbercht Longhaft Send us!
Hunbercht Longhaft Breathless!
Hunbercht Longhaft Deathless!
Hunbercht Longhaft Restless!
Hunbercht Longhaft Test us!
Hunbercht Longhaft Bend us!
Hunbercht Longhaft Rend us!
Hunbercht Longhaft Vengeance!
Hunbercht Longhaft Penance!
Hunbercht Longhaft Send us!
Hunbercht Longhaft End us!
Silence from the knife that softly severs
Mistaken for an unsung prayer
Now rising from the soundless Deep. Awaken
White fury, blinding indigo
Swell ye seas of old, Hunbercht Longhaft
Surging tides grow bold, Hunbercht
Seething currents whorl, Hunbercht Longhaft
To swallow up the "world", Hunbercht

Your mind is now <kupo!>
I giggled when I realized the meaning of "lever" once I saw "under the belt".
While I agree that the lever part is cool, I think the "under the belt" is the best double entendre of all
Hunberct Longhaft! He and his...unit...are my favorites. They've got some really great lines during the Attack on Highbridge FATE, as well.
Tonight I shall be the one to man the lever!
I couldn't help but notice the quest name: 'Stroking the Haft" in the 2.3 patch notes, could it be?!
^I had the same thought on seeing that, so I'm gonna guess it's preeetty likely. We'll see soon!
Back in 1.0 there is this lalafell saying something about the quarter master up in his room "polishing his musk" while thinking about the Admiral. During a quest.
They did try and put a fig leaf on some of this tomfoolery in ARR, but Momodi still wants to compare notes with female player characters on the finer details of their intimate encounters... still only wants to see the tears of the male player characters. I always wondered if the story behind the drowning wench was retconned. I know there was a little snippet about it on the 1.0 website, and I seem to remember it making Limsa sound like the roughest place to take up residence...
Ryihito (the OP) made me post here cos he can't post, he said it was the best quest he has ever done and he loves Fern (Even more) for it.
Found this on Reddit.

Where's that ballad for us spoony bards to sing out in all the world.
Sorry for necroing this awesome thread, but... I just... Didn't know I wasn't the only one who noticed that hilarious moment in High Bridge! x'3
Seriously, at first, I thought I was perhaps... Reading something wrong, had to read twice before starting to laugh because didn't expect such comments in the game, funny one!
So, I was also directed here from your post in the other thread. Although, I knew of this awesome FATE over a year ago XD
At any rate, You've given me the impression that you have not done the Moogle Delivery quests. if that is the case YOU MUST DO EETT NAO! STOP READING! NAO!
Also, I wanted to point out, revisiting this thread, and reading all of the posts, I've realised that some of the PRECISE QUESTIONS POSED IN THIS THREAD may or may not have been answered in later quests. Which I think is totally amazeballs. +9,001 DKP for Koji-San
One of the postmoogle quests involves that trio....
Meanwhile in The Gold Saucer...

Oh, the Ballad of Hunbrect Longhaft has not been forgotten. While the postmoogle quest may have shed a little more light on the life and times of everyone's favorite cocksure keeper of the lever, his history is far too colorful to be told in a single sitting. The realm's lonely lordlings and ladies know this, as do the realm's bards, and ever so slowly have exploits of young Longhaft spread across the land. They have even reached beyond the Gates of Judgement and into holy Ishgard...where the church censors have been quick to blot out portions they deem to be propagators of impure thoughts. The following is an example of a pair of post-censor stanzas from the Ballad:
Yes, the **** rasied his ****
And said, "******* not red
For this *** could run much ****** still."
Yet the **** did not ****
That a **** could **** so
And she ******* 'fore ****** her ****.
Luckily, the censors' reach is rather limited, as we will see in 3.0! Until then!
There once was a bridgeman called Longhaft
And women and fighting was his craft
He polished his blade
With many a maid
And beer he would guzzle by the draft
Defending the Highbridge was his job
From those who like to plunder and rob
With flair and panache
The rebels he’d quash
And many admirers’ hearts would throb
The Control Room is his realm at night
And he uses his sizable might
To polish the lever
With dutiful fervour
‘tis said to be an impressive sight
His followers are known as most loyal
For glory in battle they toil
One sapphire, one ruby
Are also known to be
Quite handy with polish and oil.
-.- I'll .... I'll just leave it there
Fern, Ryihito Adonis loves you.
