Rude people in dungeons.

I'm pretty new to the game and learning everyday I recently started doing the dungeon quest and in the first one as I am just learning made a couple of mistakes. The tank there starts spamming "NOOB"..."NOOB"..."NOOB" I said well yes I am new and asked for advice and he said "Just learn how to play NOOB or get out"! Nobody said anything (advice or anything really)... except well NOOB... I battled through and went to the next dungeon basically the same thing happened...

I know random groups for dungeons is hit or miss but it just makes you feel bad and I think makes a lot of people feel worried about grouping up because they will be ridiculed.

wish some people where more helpful...

I guess I need to join a good FC on Jenova.

Very sorry to hear your bad experience, there are many jerks out there.
Experience shows those that usually complain are first to die ;)
Heck i know a healer who will specifically not heal that person if they are being rude which i think is what i would do if i was a healer.
Sounds like it would be better for you to find a Free Company that helps players progress

Good strategy here, but if your tank is the problem, not so successful.

This is why I love doing low level roulette with my tank. Got to spread goodwill and cheer when there's these types of folks corrupting your dungeon runs. Hopefully your luck will get better. :)

Heya! I'm so glad to see there are more kind people out there!

I personally like to do the low level dungeons in my spare time or for roulette because it gives me the opportunity (more often than not) to welcome newer people to the game! Most often I find that I am able to impart some knowledge to the new players. Frequently I find myself teaching low levels about limit breaking and how to use it. I guess I feel like it's just my way of giving back to the community and spreading good will to new players. We need more people doing that. Really.

There's a lot of rude people and some really nice people. Some of you may not like to hear this, but in my personal experience, roughly 80-90% of the people that are rude, disrespectful or demeaning are tanks. They are also the class that drops instantly from a dungeon that's not to their liking, leaving everyone else either stranded or having to leave and sit and wait in DF again (which is disrespectful of others' time, in and of itself). Happens more and more each week. To be honest, it's really made me get to hate the role of tanks.

In my mind, I compare it to used-car salesmen. You know there are probably some genuinely good, honest used-car salesmen out in the world, but you have personally seen so many greedy, dishonest ones, that you generalize. Basically, there's a very real reason that bad reputation exists.

That sucks, sorry to hear it. I would only suggest starting from the beginning with a mention that you are learning. Shouldn't matter really but the game has some bad apples who really give themselves too much credit. I also like to join to help people, hopefully you meet some others in your future DFs.

I am sorry you had that experience, OP. it makes me sad, and embarrassed on behalf of all us nice peeps. Trust me, there are plenty of nice people out there, I swear!!

Sounds like the dude was a complete ass. This is why I continue with my campaign for a /punch in the face Emote.....if I was in your group, I woulda done that to the douche.....maybe even spammed it. :D

OP - Sad to read that, especially when you start. I believe you must be on PS4, kudos to you, learning the skills and all on a controller (which i've tried on my PC - awesome! ^^) is no small task, as well as learning the rest of the game at the same time.

a good FC in Jenova would definitely help. if you can make a 4 and 8 group with people in the same needs than you, you won't have to deal with a random person from another server.

Don't give up, the game is good, some players are worth the pain comgin from the rude ones.

Make sure you state when you begin a dungeon/trial that you are new, take screen shots of bad behavior, and report.

You should report that tank for harassment. Nobody has the right to spout off at you like that. Unfortunately, you'll come across some people who do so anyway. It's unfortunate that you got grouped with jerks on both of your first two dungeons. I've usually found the odds a bit better than that. Yes, joining a good FC should help. But even when in an FC, you may still end up in DF runs occasionally, either for Roulette or when not enough people from your FC are available to run an instance with you. You shouldn't have to put up with insults just because you're grouped with strangers.

Yup you need to report the guy and we will have one less rude player in this game. :P

I'm sorry to hear I'm not the only one that has had unpleasant dungeon experiences. When I was tanking a dungeon the other night (lvl 21 Marauder), no one said a damn thing to me the whole time but right after we beat the dungeon, both DPSs were like "worst tank ever" and "wish you could uncommendate someone for sucking" and then immediately exited. I had said I was new to MMOs so I don't know why they expected me to be some perfect tanking machine grrrr.. I switched to a different server and made a new character because I was so upset.

Just to let people know since there seems to be some confusion about this - the duty finder pulls from your entire data cluster, not just the 1 server. Using the DF from Malboro I can get anyone on the entire Primal cluster.

I started a thread for DF fun stories just because there are too many stories of bad runs.

I have an idea, maybe SE can try to put all the rude people into one server (instead of ban/warning) and let them only play each other for a while, and also put all the gillsellers there. Kinda think it would be funny to watch the youtube video of those runs >:D

You are right there is a lot of good people in the game it's just sometimes the bad ones stick with you longer.

Sorry also for your bad experiences Deremna! I know how you feel! Maybe one day we can travel together:)

If you are new to a dungeon, always say it at the start to prevent any "wtf don't you know that mechanic etc" moments.
Since the other 3 should now be aware you are new you can then proceed to carry on without having to fear about messing up.
If no one helps you out/ gives you pointers then that's all on them.
Learning yourself is going to be messy sometimes but hey that's how it goes lol.
Also if you have a tank that's acting all hot and stuff, tell them to back off and chill. Report them after if they fail to do so. As a healer i put hotshot tanks in their places, what do i care if they refuse to tank. We can just vote kick their butt or i can tank till the tank fixes their attitude and rejoins the group.
You probably had a tank who was i90+ with coil gear on, those tanks are usually douchés in the lower ( non 50 ) dungeons.

Thing is though I set a macro up and said something like "Hi I was new to dungeons any advice is appreciated" but I don't think he even read it!

Did my third dungeon and doing much better so need to look for a good FC now.

Something very useful for Archer/Bards is using a focus target to target.


This is as simple as going to your user macros and creating a new one with this:

/as <f>

So what you do is set your focus target to the tank, and then hit that macro and you'll be on their target once they've selected one. This is a good way to overcome the problems involved with a tank who doesn't mark targets. Be careful though, sometimes a tank will hit a target and switch to another straight away, or use one target to pull the mob but switch to the deadliest in the mob first. For example in Sastasha, in the grotto area, there is a wide pull with a (forgive my forgetting names) jellyfish, angler and crab. The crab's the closest, and you can't get the others without face pulling, but it's by no means the meanest. The angler is, so it isn't uncommon for a tank to switch to that one once it's in range.

Worried about getting the wrong target when they switch? Don't be. You shouldn't be attacking until it's plain as day that the tank has aggro. That means giving the tank a couple of seconds to establish it. Lots and lots and lots of Archers don't do this, and it's honestly a pain in the neck.

To add to that reddit post about checking your aggro specifically. On your party list you can actually see who has aggro. The tank should have an A by their name. Everyone else a number from 2 - 4 (or 8). The healer is usually 2. Checking here is a good way to make sure you're not only not pulling a mob to you, but also to see who might be about to pull it.

Wow, that tip about aggro tags in the party list will help me no end! :D awesome.

Most people will tell you to find a Free Company of like minded non rude folks. I took it a step further and made my own and now there are a ton of us running around Lamia making your dungeon runs and overall game experience as good as you'd want it to be. This is my first MMO and you probably couldn't tell at first glance. That's what surrounding yourself with helpful folks that teach you without the attitude.

I hate to hear we are so few in numbers though. My only hopes is to at least convert any that would read these thread and reflect on the damage they do.

The second someone uses noon to demean another player in a group they should be kicked.
I have no tolerance for this type of behavior and the other peoe who just stayed quiet are part of the problem. Silence can be seen as tolerance.

This type of behaviour is also good evidence to support the stance that all content in an MMO should be soloable through use of difficult/reward scaling mechanics.

So the answer to unacceptable behavior is to ignore it and isolate yourself from it.

What would be better is enhancing the current social system. Giving players more options when they use the Duty Finder, for example. In the same way you can filter by language, you should also be able to filter by skill (novice, intermediate, expert), by whether it is your first time in the dungeon, and when using Duty Roulette it should be built to place preference on finding players similar to your ability.

And above all players using the duty roulette should be keenly aware of the fact that for novice players they must use the duty finder, and that it isn't their fault that they aren't blessed with clairvoyance.

Don't infer from my 'soloing everything should be possible' viewpoint that I don't appreciate the positive social aspects of an MMORPG community. Grouping with friendly sensible mature tolerant people, wether they are veterans or new players, is great. I love that aspect of MMOs. What I donMt like, however, is speedrunning with strangers who don't communicate beyond insults, and silent groupmayes might as well be NPC bots as far as I'm concerned. In my one dungeon run so far, by far the most enjoyable part of it was a conversation with a veteran after we'd finished about my build and playstyle. She fave me some good advice and i rember her name, and zi'd make a point if saying hi to her if I met her in game again.

The lack of a good quest-sharing function in FF14 is a huge shame imo. I'm also nit at all looking forward to the inevitable elitist attitude to me when I get to raids where I want to watch cutscenes.

If there was a good global chat chanbel I could use to chat to other players whilst I soloed my quests and such, I'd be much slower to level and happy to take it slowly. I'd therefore be taking much longer to fo the contemt and SE would have my money for longer too lol.

It's a common misconception among the anti-solo crowd that soloists don't like to be social.

Sorry to hear that you've had such a bad experience, luckily I haven't came across this. Have you thought about reporting them? Might just be a kick up the backside for them.

Don't let it get you down you can always switch the chat from party to avoid nasty comments, there are nice players out there hopefully you'll come across them next time :)

I did tell him. I set a macro up and said something like "Hi I was new to dungeons any advice is appreciated" and he did not listen.

And it may be true that it takes only "5" brain cells to complete but if you are new to dungeons you may feel intimidated and nervous at first.

Thankfully after the first few bad experiences the last few have been good!

It's so much nicer adventuring with people who want to help each other then put you down.

Following this thread and had a similar experience. Posted this on another thread in response to some comments made about inexperienced tanks, which I was until I deletd and started again with a THM

I know the feel bro, I started this game as a healer and at the beginning I screw up a lot of dungeons. Even at lvl 50 I screw up Titan HM coz I was not able to dodge those plumes , now I can heal without any kind of problem because not all of them were assholes and they thought me what should I do. Sorry to hear that your first experience was bad but not all of them are like that.

I'll never understand people that just want to capslock and whine like a baby at a mistake someone makes when they're obviously new rather than offer helpful advice. It's one thing if that person refuses to listen to any advice you offer, but it's another if you refuse to offer any advice and just spam the word noob over and over again. That's the kind of behavior I'd expect out of a 12 year old.
