Lazy atma farmers

I have noticed a trend when farming atma, that ppl will put themselves on follow and trail me around when we get into a fate they will unfollow do just enough to medal than go right back on follow with me or in the case of nm fates just auto attack and then go back on follow after the fate is over. I don't know these ppl and Im not going to do their work for them.

In xi you simply had to change a piece of gear so you blink and ppl loose follow. Any way to do that in xiv without switching jobs? I will get them caught up in fences or something of that sort but they seem to notice quickly enough to click jump to stay with me. I have even left nm fates early so they are forced to complete it on their own. I know they are at their computer since they participate, even briefly in the fates, put themselves on follow and are able to jump obstacles but it really is annoying.

Or better yet, is this a reportable offense? Nothing would make me happier than to put these lazy @$%@! on report

Not reportable. But I can see how it'd be annoying.

When I farm I set my free port (have an authenticator) to the aetherite in that zone. Helps to get around quickly when one spawns on the other side of the map. For you, do a fate if someone follows you, just free port (or return on 15 min timer) to the aetherite and run to the fate. They will be left in the middle of nowhere. The other option is to intentionally run to an empty area of the map and wait for them to run away because you took them away from the fate.

Swap to a crafter set and just start making a recipe. That should scare them off quickly enough!

Use the terrain if you can. They don't "follow" jumps.

i'll admit, i sometimes put people on auto follow just to get from fate to fate while i ran to get a drink or something. But people would do it to me as well. I just figured atma farming is so whack anyways, better to just help each other out. But i'd never go super lazy to the extent the OP describes. Just to get from one fate to another.

^ I also run them through aggro-infested areas. Got several killed and felt very good about it.

change zones an leave them there to do their own work, come back later

Hasn't happened to me yet, but going onto a mount can also help. And as some above mentioned, jumping over something also stops it.

If someone does it to me, I'll probably bring them through aggro monsters and drop them with a jump. :)

Run off a cliff. Problem solved.

target the guy that is following and write "/straight", while standing in front of him

If that doesn't works, in the next FATE, target him again and write "/annoyed". If doesn't, "/angry", if doesn't "/furious".. After all that....Embrace the world of teleport to the aetherites and troll them.

Turn around and /follow them. When they notice you aren't moving they'll start to walk themselves and then you'll get the free ride.

Just go doing your own business. If you do something specifically just to make the person following you to be stuck, you're just wasting your time.

Just by imagining the scene I burst out laughing!... There should be some epic gif-video with that.

It could be considered harassment if you're not even in party with them.

Jumping on a mount should be able to help

While I don't do it often, there's been occasions when I've locked on to someone because I want a moment to eat or whatever. For all the reasons mentioned above, though, I don't make a habit of it. It's just too easy to get brushed off, even if the person you're following isn't TRYING to brush you off. Even something as simple as a tight turn around a wall can cause you to bump into it and get stuck.

So, yeah, if these folks are truly bothering you, it's very, very easy to get rid of them.

Try to blacklist the player maybe they can't follow you if you put them on Blacklist

Why not help them out?

Agreed. They are using follow as intended, to follow people who are going to the same place. No need to sabotage them. We should be helping each other out.

Should not frivilously report things like that. Silly reports increase the volume of reports to an unmanageable amount so they are less able to take action against real problems.

People don't like this because someone will be doing all of the hard work and others are basically getting a free ride, or "leeching," if you will. Hunting for Atmas is a sensitive subject in regards to heated opinions/debates, and when a player easily obtains Atmas while others pour sweat & tears into it, it's extremely frustrating. That's why most players are appalled by seeing other players following them and may view it as a form of cheating. So, no, it's not okay to do. Unfortunately, I don't think this is a reportable offense, either.

They only have you on follow, though. You're not partied up so they still have to actually participate in the Fate to have a chance at getting the ATMA. When you're in a group and someone teleports, you'll piggyback if you're going the same place, and teleporting costs Gil. Running around on a chocobo doesn't, so if someone who intends to go where you're going has you on follow, I don't really think it's a big deal.

That being said, I think people should at least ask if it is okay for them to follow you. That way, if you aren't cool with it, they can ask someone else.

that's just overreacting sonny. Remember that players still need to contribute some damage on FATEs to get their chance nailing atmas. Tagging along and doing nothing simply won't do them any good. lol

(/follow) was created on many MMO for a reason you know. lol

Need enough characters to get this in. relog/leave early/ leave late.

I haven't come across this but ya almost unattended game play.

Fix would be /follow only works on party members.

I have actually had someone GM me for following a player in FFXI and I was told not to follow them anymore because it was considered "harassment". So you can report them if you really want to.

good grief, aside from the feeling of "hey this person is being lazy" is it really that big of a deal? Aren't there a myriad of other in game player gripes that merit far more attention that this?

you will never get enough people to actually report this for a person to get banned and in all honesty, I doubt a person would ever be banned for this. As long as you can /follow a stranger, then /follow is working as intended.

People stop facerolling for a second! I went to one outer la noscea fate that failed THREE times because the npcs died. How does anybody mess up a lvl 30 fate anyway??! I've had less trouble doing that fate SOLO as opposed to half-awake party.

This is where the XI job change 'blink' would come in handy. Oh, someone is following you that you dont want them to? Point yourself towards hostile territory, blink your gear, wave goodbye as they run away.

Just a thought - if they do the bare minimum, wouldn't that help everyone else get a chance at gold too?

Unlikely, and could make it worse. A fate's difficulty is based on the number of players in the fate's previous appearance. If you have just one active player and one or more leech over an extended period, the fates will get harder. But if it's a bunch of legit players and just one leech, won't really matter.

Why isn't there a command for the followed person, to force an unfollow?

We had that, way back in Gemstone III.

I find it astonishing that at least two of you think following someone without their express permission, is acceptable behavior. I would insta-blacklist you.

Considering this is a game and not real life, I don't really see what's so offensive.

Yeah, I get it, it's extremely lazy, but there are no rules saying that it is not allowed. Also, unless there is some sort of harassment involved, it wouldn't bother me that much IMO.

When you arrive, open a trade with them and demand the chocobo porter's fees. 5 gil for same zone is typical. :p

I don't see the big deal either, i'd be flattered they thought I was the most efficient at getting from fate to fate.
