A few statements have been giving regarding Ishgard in the past: Mainly that it wouldn't open until "after battle changes", because they would be required to experience what Ishgard has to offer.
1.18 will be implementing a host of battle changes, and 1.19 is scheduled to be the release of Chocobos and Airships.
So let's just keep it simple and ask: Does this information mean that 1.18 will be the battle reforms that lead to Ishgard opening?
What information can you give us on that, if so? Can you tell us if it will be the hub of all traffic, or can we fly straight from city to city? Are the docks in the fields for field to field transport only, or is the airship network truly that extensive?

I would be willing to throw in a bet that Ishgard will come in the next major revamp they plan on hitting. Which, I would also bet is more class definition and jobs. So..I think in otherwords, it has a good chance of coming in in 1.21 or 1.22 and be the key to getting jobs.

"After the battle changes" is a little relative, don't you think? That could mean in patch 1.18 seeing as they'll be implementing finished battle changes all the way until... anything. Pretty much everything that's not already in the game will be coming "After the battle changes."

If it's not opening now, that would confirm that the airships do not require a Central Dock like in FFXI - which would be surprising to me because what other excuse was there for holding them back other than blatantly saying, "We wanted to slow you down to buy as much time as possible on fixing the game."
I don't know if they'd go on record saying that, even though it really does appear that way. -

Job system implementation is a part of the battle reform as well, and those are coming post-1.20. So...

All good points. Though, the reason I'm excited to see Ishgard is for the internal aesthetics of the city - I'm big on the artistic points of the game, so I'm excited to see what the largest, richest city in the game has to offer.
If it's not coming, silver lining is at least I have a little more time to rally what support I can for the idealistic wish of seeing something even vaguely like the Rapture tech demo in the game. (Shamelessly plugs thread in signature). I'd always figured Ishgard was more-or-less done inside but not actually implemented - seeing as people who've position-hacked over the gate have found that there's not actually anything over there. At all. Ah, well. We'll see, I suppose.
Though, if it's not coming anytime soon, I think we should adopt Raze's philosophy. -

I see Patch 1.19 as SE's personal admission that they didn't ever really think the game was anything but the bare bones when they tried to ship and release it. We already knew that, but they never really said it.

I don't have the source for this, but I distinctively recall the devs at some point saying that Ishgard and it's associated content was deliberately being held back for the PS3 release or briefly thereafter.
(Mostly because they didn't want it spoiled by the state of the game.) -

They also said that Patch 1.19 is going to be 3-5 times larger than Patch 1.18 ( thats alot of stuff). So if you do all the Math.. theirs a Higher Probability that it will be in this patch," High Chance" Not " Guaranteed".

Personally, I think the team-switch was mostly an excuse to buy more time to finish a game they didn't want to admit wasn't even close to Version 1.0. Reminder: The OP is from July. Now, we're just bullsh!tting about possibilities and specifics.
Back when I started this thread, we were still under the impression that "new content" was just "on hold" until they "fixed" older content. However, after the first few posts came out about 1.18 and 1.19, it became clear that the "New Content" wasn't stuff that was held back, it was entirely new, base-foundation stuff that should have been in from day one.
So, we see a 20% game at release boosted to about a 50% game now, and it's pretty clear Ishgard is probably a while off. Hell, even "Battle Changes" likely extend to full-on jobs at this point. -

Because I formed an irrational bond with the 2005 promo movie and I cling like ivy to the idea that we might still see a city that looks even remotely as interesting. So I agree with you - flesh out our cities. If you read back through my musings on Ishgard (especially my "commemorative landmark" one) you'll find that I don't really want Ishgard, I just want them to bring back the idea of having an area driven aesthetically entirely on wrought iron, potted flora, and tiles of glass and stone. I don't really care what else there is. I guess there'll be an aether and an AG and some quests, shops, and a chocobo guy... but whatever. Screw all that.
