How to stop a stalker?

So I was friends with this character for a while, but then I wanted to go into another FC, and ever since I've been stalked and get almost daily tells sent to me about the goofiest stuff, saying things like "it's our destiny to be together" and "I want to cling to my friend all day." I ran out of patience with this person and have now blacklisted them, and now they follow me around, dance on stuff outside of my house, and is just an all-around nuisance. Not to mention that their attire is always easy to spot anywhere around, and the emote spams they do announce their presence way in advance.

I won't say the name of this person, to prevent giving them more attention (I'm sure you can guess if you're on Midgar), but they've become a real creep and won't get the message that I want nothing to do with them. I've sent a harassment report already, and will send more each time I see this person stalking me.

So how do I get rid of a stalker that won't take a direct message to go away?

Make a GM ticket, this falls under player harassment and if you've made it clear you don't want the person to contact you the GM can pull up the chat log and give an official warning to the player, or possibly a suspension.

This. Player support does handle complaints like this!

hang out with them and become great friends, then they aren't a stalker anymore and just a good friend!

Read the post. Blacklist was already used. The stalker still follows them around and pesters them with emotes constantly.

Strange, I thought this would not be an issue in a game like FFXIV. Most of the time I am logged on I am in an instance where no one can send tells.

Yeah people spend a lot of time in instances, but when you arn't it'd still be creepy and annoying to find someone stalking you. People craft/do leves/FATEs as well as instanced content.

They would do squat because the guy doesn't actually know where they live in RL don't base gaming life to real life police have enough problems as it is going out on real calls.

Black list them and ignore them simple as that, you are letting it get to you and that's why they keep doing it.

once you fade it out that it bugs you then it will disappear,either that you can just say you're a dude or get some guy to pretend he is your man and tell him to buzz off.

not sure what you did to provoke and not sure if he is a actual stalker.

what if the dude doesnt live in his location ? what can the police do ?

How can you follow someone? Do one teleport and you are gone. Sure, if you hang around at your FC house much or have some favorite spot where you feel you must idle I guess it could be a problem.

player search will always tell you where to find the person

you can transfer servers or tell the person you are moving to XXXXX server and hope they go and u really dont >.>

This is the best and only way to go.
Keep sending in reports, and make sure that you make then thorough. Give the GMs all the information, including timestamped copies from your chatlog wherever possible.
Also explain clearly to them that this particular player makes you feel uncomfortable.

As others have said, unless the OP knows who the person in real life is and there's a good reason to believe that there are life threatening factors involved, which in this case is fairly unlikely, there is nothing the police can do.
They probably won't even write up a report for it.

Bring it to me. I don't mind having another PC pet :D

This brings up a good point for SE to look into: if you blacklist someone, they shouldn't be able to find you on player search if at possible. It would help with harassment tons. Oh, you accidentally run into them somewhere in the open world? Tele somewhere else and you're all set...or at least you should be.

Sorry to hear that. You've got a lot of good advice from the other players here. Keep filing reports with the GM. I cannot stand people like that.

Some police officer somewhere will be bashing their head against a wall. Keep contacting in game support, I imagine they could easily take care of this.

Since you're in different FCs now, see if your FC leader will close the FC house to non-members. Then you'd have at least one place where you couldn't be bothered. Outside of that, take friends with you and have them report your stalker, too. And try to ask strangers, too. You don't have to be the one being harassed to report someone for harassment as long as you witness it. So people nearby seeing you being stalked can report as well. The more complaints filed against that person, hopefully the faster the issue will be taken care of.

Also, see if your FC mates will file complaints as well. If he's constantly at the house, technically he's harassing your FC too. The more people who complain, the better chance GMs will take it seriously.

It's hard to know if a harassment report has done anything since SE doesn't share what it does with the person who submitted it.

I have heard of suspensions happening from them.

I think that one person is joking that mentioned this, but you could try telling them you are a guy (even if that isn't the case). If they have heard you in vent that might not work.

Other than that, if you still have friends in your old fc, you could tell them about it. Perhaps they would control their member, even if you aren't in that fc now, they wouldn't want their fc to look bad I'd imagine.

Best suggestion I've seen in this thread is pretend you're a guy. If that doesn't work then he's just harassing you for the hell of it. If you sent him pictures or confessed your love for him at some point then you're screwed and will just have to deal with it.

I highly doubt SE considers this harassment, it's just emotes at this point and they don't actually effect you unless you let it. Maybe your best option is to lighten up a little and ignore it.

The irony here is, posting tips to trick the stalker aren't going to work if he's reading this thread.

That may be true but, the thing I think is important is the harassing guy's intentions. This kind of blatant fixation is harassment in my opinion. His intent *is* to harass. Since it's willful, correct me if I'm wrong, but this kind of bothering is against the rules. The OP already blacklisted him. He quite certainly knows he is blacklisted and that is why he is emoting instead (since you can see emotes even from a blacklisted person - I've tested this). He is trying to get around being blacklisted. This shows he know he is harassing.

While I agree with you I don't think SE will handle it in the same manner. People spam job abilities on random people in cities, spam emotes on random people in cities. None of that is considered harassment but the only reason somebody would do it is to harass another person. I'm sure his persistent confessions of love could be considered harassment but that's why they implemented the blacklist, so people could handle those situations without the need for support to get involved.

If I'm being perfectly honest, I think the OP needs to lighten up and ignore the person. Half the reason he's so persistent is because it gives him their attention and that's what they want. Once he realizes he's wasting his time and getting no attention he will go away.

I know SE does handle harassment reports, but I know the terms of harassment have to be rather specific.

Honestly I don't know what they would have to be for SE to actually do something.

Best case scenario though is they put him in GM prison and talk to him for a bit or temp ban him for three days. He could still come back and do it again. All SE is going to do is try to discourage him *if* they do anything at all.

In my case, I had someone after me at one point as well. I put in a report, but I'm not sure it did anything. He was at it for months, but eventually he grew tired of it. It took a while to get over his attempts at defaming me to others. Eventually he tried to make up with me and left me alone, so I guess that is good but. I felt rather helpless to the situation. As you said, my only recourse was to try to ignore him. Giving him no response seemed to help, but it was painful.

Regardless if the person is on blist, they can still harass you. Telling OP that they just need to lighten up is not the right answer. Report the person. If SE agrees with you they will be reprimanded. Unless they find that you are lying about it, they will probably agree with you.

You could always delete your character, make a new character with the same name and then have SE recover your character which would force you to change your name. May want to use a Fantasia potion at that point as well.

But really OP, I suggest ignore them for now, even if they follow you around it won't ammount to much in a world of instances and fast teleport.

Has this been proven to work? Sounds like a bit of a risk. Not to mention, I don't think anyone should go to these lengths to get rid of someone, though it is a possible solution if it actually works.

Anywho OP, most you can do is hope he eventually gets the idea and finds someone else to bother if the GM does nothing about it. I will admit I'd be super upset if this happened to me.

Deleting character sound like a terrible idea. Definitely report them and report them again.

Having said all that, can you teleport? If you teleport and they are not your friends list and you did not join their friends list, how can they find you? It like the millenium falcon, you jump into hyperspace and the empire loses Han Solo. Do a double teleport and I'm sure they won't be able to track you anymore. /follow doesn't work when you cross over zones.

Does this work? I've heard another way that involves creating a new character with the same name on another server, transferring your old character to that server (resulting in a forced name change), and then transferring the old character back to the original server.
