Or is it gonna make a comeback eventually? Peak ed at the Nocturn stuff and noticed you upgrade it in the same way we did our original gear.
I hope we get new designs for it eventually, valor gear is still my favorite design, along with the Wyrm mail.

Which would you guys prefer?
1. Gear is class specific (PLD/WAR), but you can get the highest ilvl via tomes.
2. Gear is role specific (Tank), but you need to get a drop in Coil to upgrade it to the highest ilvl.
Option 1 means that you can more readily gear one class, and will give "more" options for BiS lists. But It hurts people who use multiple classes for similar roles.
Option 2 means you're stuck at a lower ilvl unless you have a competent static, but you dont have to grind for nearly as much gear. -

If not, to throw out speculation regarding OP's original question - I think they'll use the original AF as a catalyst towards new AF, rather than a drop by itself. I might be wrong, but it would give the gear a purpose, rather than just something to be tossed into the armoire for novelty sake. If they went along a line similar to the original Relic quest, treat the AF pieces as a base model for the new AF to be modified with. Which would also be why they have made AF available through the Calamity Salvager so if you happen to have tossed yours by accident, you can just go back and buy it again for 50k.
If they really wanted to keep that system relevant as well, they could go the XI route with the AF type of gear, +1, +2, if they used the system I mentioned for the AF2(+1), use the Myth Job gear (which is basically just AF+1) for a +2 increase in stats and ilevel. Not likely right away, but let's say for instance if this gear drops from CT in 2.3, set at a low ilvl than that of the Soldiery gear, then the Myth gear can be used to boost it higher at 2.4. Could be neat, just have to wait and see what they have planned. But doing this would also free up two entire sets of gear from inventory, which I'm sure everyone would welcome.
Which would also mean, sadly, I'll have to start getting pretty active with myth farming to finish buying the rest of the DoW/DoM sets >.> So much myth farming for my atma book, I really dont want to anymore lol -

In regards to What Akujin said, I'd prefer it to be started gear again tbh. If they made you take up a cool quest to get it, or improve your original armor ala Relic reborn, they could use it as a way for new players to catch up without to much of an insane grind through dungeons for tomes.
Also now that I look at it again, WAR looks kind of me honestly, like a less powerful looking version of the first set. -

Some people also want gear to match; I based my DRG vanity around the High Allagan Gauntlets of Maiming, for example, and all my Astrum gear is Glamoured. My SMN has the Allagan Book glamoured onto the Wave Book to keep it matching, while my SCH has the Wave book glamoured over the Allagan book for the same reason (the white book looks better with full Allagan robes, while the Allagan caster book looks better with my SMN gear than the wave book does)
I've seen many people with glamours I would never use. But its something they like the look of, so they can do that. -
