This doesn't seem... right. Mages can't wear tank or DoW gear... but tanks and DoW classes can wear mage gear? Can this be fixed? (I'd love to wear the Foestriker's tunic as glamour.)

Probably universal gear glamours. I know weaver can craft things all classes can wear.
Lower level magic gear is all classes, so nothing to fix (sadly)
Well, an easy fix to my mind is to make everything accessible via Glamour regardless of class restrictions. :)
Considering mage gear is DoM-restricted...
If you wanted an equivalent piece of gear, you'd be asking for harnesses and subligar, not restricted gear (and you'd have to give up the Acolyte set)
Also, I don't think restricting glamours to what your class can wear is a bad thing
I agree.
I made a thread a few days ago but it died.

The issue with this comes in PVP, I saw them do this with vanity systems for other games and there was outrage when mages started to glamour plate armor so people would avoid them rather than kill them first. Personally I think the PVP in this game is crap so it wouldn't bother me either way but I can pretty much guarantee you that that's part of the reason you will never see this happen.
But it's not... as this picture shows...
AF, Allagan, and PvP is class restricted, but I think that's it. Otherwise all mage stuff is listed as "All Classes" like crafting/gathering (non AF) gear is. I think changing DoM gear to "DoM only" would be a step in the wrong direction. :/
Haha while I see what you're saying and don't necessarily disagree, it was most likely an oversight on their part that the DoM stuff is available for "All Classes" to begin with. I doubt they were considering glamour when they did that, so it's more likely that they'll go backwards, like you mentioned, and make DoM stuff "DoM Only"
Was not aware of that, if that's the case then they really have no reason not to, unless they plan to eventually make glamour available in PVP.
And 90% of DoW gear is also copy/paste. Coliseum, Foestrikers (BRD i90), Infantry (MNK i90) and...actually, that's about it. Maybe Poacher's Tunic (Cutter's Cry BRD drop), but I'm not sure about it.
Also, the Seer's Cowl (Cutter's Cry caster drop) is also unique; has a mask on it that no other robe has.
My point is that regardless of the copy-paste, DoW have access to those specific models. DoW can't use toto-rak mage gear? Make a crafted half-robe and dye it pink. Can't wear strategos? just craft a bliaud and dye it a similar color and now your DoW can wear it.
Mages can't craft the archer tunic sets and wear those since they are restricted. They can't wear leather jackets or jerkins or anything else that is DoW only. The few things DoW can't wear are unique but have crafted alternate options that look the same.
I actually had no idea those were not mage-restricted. At least that's some progress as the Light steel stuff is all-classes as well.Quote:
Taffeta looks pretty close to Coliseum imo.
And many people serious about glamour will not use something unless its exactly what they want. I know I went through each shirt in-game before deciding on the Buccaneer's Shirt for my old DRG vanity (I finally got my Infantry shirt, so that's my vanity now) I went through so many pants to find one that looked good with the Allagan Robe of Healing (still dont' have the T5 pants...still trying to farm that for them)
What I would love is if I could Glamour hooded-robes onto non-hooded ones. I love some of them on my alt.
Any job can wear the Taffeta (looks like Coliseum caster set) and Light Steel (looks like Coliseum physical DPS set). So you can make your mage looks like a physical DPS and vice versa. Both are crafted sets.
for those that just look at armor to judge a class, you need to look at weapons on this game, as weapons will always look like the type for each class (such as a dragoon can only glam dragoon weapons)
)
I don't think I'm against this. The game seems to follow the logic that everyone can wear cloth, but you need special strength or skills to wear heavier armor like mail or plate--skills and strength that only certain classes and jobs are capable of. This makes sense to me, but I wouldn't be against some special sets of armor-like gear that mages can wear, similar to the lightsteel set, which flat out admits in the name that its not heavy armor. Lightsteel.
I think it causes to much confusion among some people, I had a slip up in trial roulette the other day, I swear to god I thought a mage or healer pulled the boss to hurry us up, and it turned out to be a warrior in a dress... That was confusing enough for a moment, I don't want anything added to it lol.
Looks like Felt robe set. Could be dated gear from 1.0, which is all classes.
Were you able to examine it?
It doesn't matter either way because Felt Robe and its associated set are all classes.
I can get the reasoning behind it too, but there are still some items that are a little weird and it should at least be consistent. I think most leather gloves and shoes should be all classes, personally, and there are many cloth items that are geared toward DoW that can't be worn by mages like Kecks and Shirts.Quote:

I'd be totally for vanity-only varieties for sure though.
Who cares? This is what vanity was supposed to be used for in the first place. Nice to see not every dragoon walking around with that silly headpiece.
I do think that, at least when it comes to glamours, some select pieces of gear should be opened up for all classes instead of just DoW or Tank classes, and I say this as someone who mains a tank. I mean, not a lot of tank gear really looks all that great, unless looking like a tin can is your idea of a good time, though I will say that there are some pieces of DoW gear that look absolutely stunning, as do some pieces of DoM gear.
Though as a bit of a selfish request, I would like the Casting Class restrictions on the Magician's Hat lifted. While it is kinda gimmicky to have a 50 Summoner walking around in Blue/White gear modeled after the Magician's Hat to almost kinda look like a healer, while simultaneously having a 50 Scholar walking around in Red/Black gear modeled after the less-restrictive Harlequin's Hat to look like a Caster DPS, it would be nice to be able to adhere to more traditional colors once in a while.
Did you even bother reading the first post? So not what OP was talking about. Read it again and if you need help, I'll be happy to break it down for you.
Also people who really don't care, won't ever take the time to comment. Just saying.
OT: I agree OP. It's completely unfair. I think they are probably allowed to wear DoM stuff is maybe because it's so ugly. DoM get hoodie dresses and ugly long old lady dresses, DoW get the sexy tops and cool pants. D:
DoW can wear cloth, leather and metal
DoM can wear cloth and a little leather i think
Tafetta and lightsteel gives the two groups the ability to wear cloth and metal.
But the point is why can't low level metallic armour equivelent to hempen, cotton, woolen robes etc be worn by DoM classes? Lol
FULLY AGREED. Some DoW gear is gorgeous.
They would likely need to add a new check on special gear (like Foestriker and Battlemage) and low level gear (level 1 to 15 or 20 range) to give all classes access to said gear for glamours, so it doesn't mess around with low level gearing and gives us Mages some more freedom
Although, I would be fine if tanks could no longer equip robes outside of glamour, if only to avoid the frustrations that can come when you land in a low DR and have a robed tank "Cuz it looks cool."
