Suggestion? Bring back beastman seals and BCNM system from FFXI

Gives a reason to farm the open world, and provides a good challenge for rare items/relic weapons etc. I found the BCNM's difficult, but exciting, and something to shoot for, and since you needed seals/orbs to enter it kept people from just blowing through the content. Basically a RNG on top of an RNG, but the drop rates were much better than atma.

Personally I'd much rather follow this system to upgrade my relic than grinding fates for days with zero progress.

Thoughts?

i was hoping atma would be like that, because the description of the atma says they have the soul of a powerful monster inside

I don't. Trash mobs in this game are boring to farm and I'm tired of instance boss fights. This game needs variety like actual raids not just boss fights.

How you bring back something that was never implemented in this game in the first place?

That said, I don't entirely agree, but I can see why people would get behind this. I do like that it is an actual suggestion instead of just another whine thread.

That said, I think people (including myself) would have less problems with the Atma if the drop rates weren't quite as annoying and/or you weren't synced down to level 10 for most of them and they weren't amazingly braindead (not bothering to move out of AOEs, not looking at the screen, watching movies). I'm interested in your suggestion, but my problems are this:

1) Another huge problem I have with Atma is that it is COMPLETELY isolated from everything else. If you're farming soldiery, you're also getting Myth, which is used for basically everything nowadays. If I'm doing dailies, I'm working for the prizes that come with that, while also getting a small amount of Myth. When I'm farming Atma, I get NOTHING. Seals that I don't spend on anything (mild exaggeration, you can cash in and sell to crafters, but it doesn't feel "worth it" for my goals), minute amounts of gil, and a bunch of items that take up space in my inventory. If it costs something to enter this type of content on top of that, and depending on how that resource is acquired, I'd probably end up a little ticked when there's also RNG involved, which is why Atma is evil in the first place.

2) I think we should elaborate on "difficult but exciting," as I'm sure most of the replies here are going to say "if you want difficult, you can do Primals or Coil." I think the point that you're getting at is that it is something in the open world that doesn't require an instance, but then in blends in too much with Fates. It really all just makes me think that they need to rebuild the Fate system from the ground up more than adding something new, but that's what this discussion is for, I suppose.

EDIT: As for the suggestion on Raiding, that's something else for a different time. This is specifically related to Atmas. Whether the game needs raiding is one thing, but I don't think it should discussed in the same vein as Atma; Atma is supposed to be content that is "easier to acquire" without the difficulty of the other content in the game, with easy being relative toward the challenge of the content itself, not in the time required to actually complete the task.

I see no point in farming for seals but I would love to see BCNM be incorporated in "some form", I was hoping that guildhest would be something like BCNM but they seem to have abandoned it since launch.

They do really need to add more difficult party based objectives in this game, have them reward crafting items similar to the treasures maps would be a good start.

I'd rather see ISNMs as an additional use for Grand Company Seals.

Heck, remove the crafting materials from the list of things you can buy with Seals and make them drop for GCNMs. Take it to a pop location, use it to enter a Guildhest style instance, beat it and get the reward. Would be a perfect addition to the game IMO. Of course, this is XIV, so the developers would probably slap a "Can only be done every 18 hours" lock out on it to completely ruin it...

I think they would need to add more challenging open world areas first i.e. places with level 60 enemies that require either skill or a team to take down. Otherwise its just zerging more trash.

Peiste maps are just like BCNM, except in the great wide open.
They just need to pump up the difficulty.

Beastmen seals, the same we farmed during hamlet defence in 1.23?
But it was instanced content

ISNMs appear to be higher-level content than what I made it to before I stopped playing, so I did some research on the various kinds of NMs (just a basic summary), so I'm unclear about a few of these things. Since there are at least a few of you that seem to have played 11 extensively, I'm sure one of you can elaborate. Again, I don't think Atma specifically should be tied to the so-called "difficult content" but something like this as an alternative sounds like it would help the game immensely.

So most versions of NMs appear to be similar in function to dailies or guildhests as someone said previously, and since most people can form parties with you to help with these already, would it be something that could be implemented into existing systems? On paper, I can't see overwhelming differences between them other than requirements for entry and relative difficulty. I know that leves can also serve similar functions in that people can help you through them if they're in your party as well, but the issue with leves are that they're intended to be for one person.

Now I see lots of these other types of Notorious Monsters have limits on how many people can go into them, or you incur some sort of penalty if there are more than a certain number challenging it, but I like the concept. There are also the ones that appear in the open world, which people have been mentioning a lot, that I wouldn't be opposed to if the "claim" system was abandoned. A fate that isn't a fate, I guess.

Making things level 60 would definitely make it less of a zerg-fest. I mean, if Fates actually had interesting mechanics, they'd be much less of a zerg as well. Odin will die if you simply throw enough people at him, which is why I don't quite understand all the open world content requests with the architecture of this game. You'd seriously have to rework the AI mechanics of everything in order to make any open world content fulfilling imo...otherwise, no matter how much stuff you put in the open world in this game, its just going to be another zerg, only now you'll have more people there that you won't talk to again.

Its not in an instance, so I guess that makes it feel more alive for some people. I don't quite understand it myself, since you can either sit around waiting for other people to show up and help, or do shouts, but I just don't see how it is so much more inherently different than doing an instance, other than you may run into some other people along the way. Maybe because you can jump in and pick up as you go instead of having to have all the piece in the beginning before you can even enter.

BCNM is basically all the primals without having to farm any seals, I don't see any difference.

I do miss BCNMs, it was nice to have content that could be solo/duo'ed with difficulty when you had down time. Plus I want some mannequins for my house.

I would enjoy BCNM-like fights in this game. having a force pop NM in a place where said mob uses the area to his advantage (like if it can fly, maybe it could fly to a higher part of the area and start dropping stuff on you...and if someone climbs up to where he is and hits him he'll fall earlier than norm, ect)

the primal fights are nice, but i'd like to think there are things in this world other than primals that can give people an interesting fight with mechanics. more importantly, something that doesent always require 8 people, and can be attempted solo.

i would love to see bcnm's come to xiv, but i dont want to see atma switched from fates. if they did that, then they would jsut put something else on fates to get people to do them again, an then we would have to start all over on the qqing. Just leave it the way it is, let everyone get used to it. Months from now nobody will even care anymore.
