Turn 6 Loot Bug!

Dear Devs!

My coil group has gotten the exact same loot from Turn 6 (Second Coil of Bahamut Turn 1) since we started beating it 3 weeks ago. 3 Monk belts and 3 Healer hands. We chalked this up to a bug because we know SE wouldn't design a loot system that is this terrible. We also lost 3 members of the group because of lack of moral from this bug ontop of the atma depression. Please fix this bug ASAP so they come back. thank you :)

Unless there are many other groups experiencing the same problem, 3 points of data isn't enough to claim it's bugged. I've seen the exact same loot from T4 three times in a row and I know it's not bugged.

Miss Fortune is showing herself for your group it seems... It sucks balls when it happens. The way to fix this is to make a currency drop that you can change in for coil equipment to prevent RNG. But people seem to hate that idea for some reason...

LOL this was the same thing for T1 back in the day. Dragoons had their turn now its MNK belts and Healer hands! Of course it was RNG then too, amirite? Does anyone know the odds required for the same three sets of drops to be identical three weeks in a row? PS you should post in the bug s forum. Or if a troll you got meh!

We keep getting DRG hands in T6 every week for the DRG that nobody plays, well goes to alt jobs but yea that doesn't help us.

Did you not read or do you just choose to ignore certain details to make snarky comments? I said unless other groups are experiencing this same issue and 3 points of data is not enough evidence. The difference between this and T1 back in 2.0? Lots of people were reporting constant DRG drops, not just one or two. This thread is the first time I'm hearing of any supposed RNG shenanigans, and I know a lot of groups running T6~8. Now, if the OP continues to see the exact same two drops for, say, another two weeks, then it'd be a different story.

Again, I saw the exact same drops from T4 three times in a row ... out of 30+ runs. Guess T4 is bugged, right?

YOU think thats bad? Our First Three Clears of T5 with my static Were smn book monk body. Over, and Over, and Over again.

There actually are, and a lot of it has been reported in the coil thread on BG. Multiple groups, all getting identical loot every week, myself included. Far too many to be random chance anyways.

For you guys linking to how RNG and such works, go ahead and tell us just how astronomically low the chance is to get identical drops 3 weeks in a row for even ONE group, let alone multiple.

Why don't you use the bug reporting system built into the game instead of the General Discussion forums where no-one is likely to see it. I highly doubt it's a bug, but hey, report it and see what happens.

There are sixteen possible drops in Turn 6, and two chests. Assuming that the chests have mutually exclusive drop tables (ie: There are eight possible items per chest), there is a 1-in-8 chance, per chest, per week, of dropping any particular item.

To get 'identical drops 3 weeks in a row', the first week doesn't matter - you got Healing Gloves and a Monk Belt, but it could have just as easily been a Bard Belt and Tank Boots. We only really start counting at the second week, where you have a 1-in-8 chance of getting the Healing Gloves (or Bard Belt, in the hypothetical) from one chest, and a 1-in-8 chance of getting the Monk Belt (Tank Boots), for an overall 1-in-64 chance. That's just repeated the following week, for another 1-in-64 chance.

Multiplied together, that's a 1-in-4096 chance of getting the same items three weeks in a row. Unusual, yes, unfortunate, yes, but not really what I would call "astronomically" low.


I mean I feel you, it really sucks when that happens. When I got my first Turn 5 clear, it dropped the SMN book, and DRG boots. For the next four damn clears (that's five in a row), there they were: SMN book, DRG boots. At nine items in each of Turn 5's chests, there is a 1-in-43046721 chance of that ever occurring (of note: This is the exact same chance of any specific set of drops over four clears of Turn 5, and is only notable because they happen to be the same). Yet as ridiculous as it was, I'm pretty confident in saying that the RNG in Turn 5's loot generation is not broken. Weird things just happen sometimes.

Are you having the same people open the chests each time, there's some theories out there that what pops could be related to what deity the person has, so try different people opening and it could clear up, if it's consistently the same drops even with different people opening, then yeah, high chance of it being a bug.

My group has received 3 healing earrings in a row, but the other chest has been different everytime. =/ Still obnoxious though.

Maybe it's a bug, maybe it's the same person opening the chest, maybe someone in the group didn't rub a trout on their tv screen for good luck. Whatever it is, it's a terrible loot system, and progression should not be left to RNG, making things a million times harder for certain groups due to being unlucky. We currently have T8 at 15%, and that's with everyone using multiple X-potions of w/e main stat. So many people had high hopes for things being even slightly easier for us this week, and then we got slapped in the face. And then people quit.

Anyways, now that I see someone did the math, the odds are quite astronomical that this happened. And someone else posted other people are having the same issue and it's being discussed on BG. Could you post a link to this thread by chance? Turn 1 had bugged loot chests, maybe it's happening here too. Hopefully we don't have to wait several months like last time for it to be fixed.

i think it's just bad luck. our group has only had 1 item repeated (healer gloves) since we've started clearing.

rngeezus just hates some people.

It's this kind of thing that makes me wonder what the seed is for the RNG for the chests. If they seed using the clock knowing damned well people run on schedules and are likely to down a Turn around the same time every week then they may need to rethink the seed.

We have never recive a healers gloves i'm so unlucky :(

I doubt it's a simple clock seed. Usually it's a mathmatical formula. However, even it was a clock seed, that is based off the seconds of the overall time. The next week at the exact same time would still be a different seed number. It's probably more likely that some items have a higher drop rate than others making them more possible to drop.

@OP: 1-in-4096 is not astronomical. It's a low chance yes, but not as bad as some would think.

We haven't seen either of those in the two kills we got. Just bad luck on you guys. Seriously though...people quitting over bad rng? Sounds ridiculous.

If it was a clock seed, I imagine they would use more variables and insert them into an algorithm, of course because one variable could be based on server/Eorzea time it could seem as though certain parties are getting the same drops each time. They will never just use one variable as this can be discovered by the players, and exploited.

They feel their reward isn't worth the effort put in and moved on to other games that don't make them feel bad after accomplishing something lol

Well, my group has gotten 6 different drops (DRG Gloves, Caster Ring, Healer Boots, Tank Boots, Healer Hands, BRD Earrings) from T6, so its working fine for us.

Doing T4 months ago, we got, not kidding, 9 Chokers of Striking; wasn't 9 straight weeks, but close. I've also seen the same drops in T1 for 3 weeks straight too (last 3 of the lock-out, thankfully), and then a few times since then (Maiming and Striking pants, BTW)

If it's anything like the first Coil which already looks like it is then it's still based on server time or local time, it's not synced downed right to milliseconds like some people wrongly believe it has to be and it really doesn't need to be, it's more like at least 1-2 hours before the class types shuffle and have a higher chance to drop. Even now if you farm the first Coil with the same group you'll see mostly the same class items drop more consistently, striking, casting, healing etc. Been getting aiming and fending gear pretty consistently on turn 6 with the same group and around the same hours, the odd item out was a monk belt. It still doesn't guarantee only those classes will drop, it just gives a much higher chance to certain class items, that's all.
