I play on the ps4 and feel the same way. I don't understand why people don't use voice chat. Maybe it has something to do with all the dudes out there that play with female characters and it will destroy some peoples illusions. lol I don't even need all ps4 people just people that will use voice chat. I am on the Zalera server btw.
People due use voice chat, in the form of team speak, mumble, vent, etc. Keep in mind, there are not as many PS4 players as there are PS3 and PC players. Remember this game doesn't have built in voice chat, so the majority of us are using 3rd party programs to VC with each other. I suggest you join an FC that uses one of these if you are that adamant about VC.
Due note that your choice and refusal to use a keyboard to communicate is not only bad on your part, but it's one of the reasons so many veteran players will insult and bash newer players. Whether you want to use a keyboard or not, you should be doing it anyway if you don't have people to VC with, especially when using the duty finder.
You can use a keyboard on the PS4 to just communicate, you don't have to give up the controller by using a keyboard.
It's like I stated above, I don't want to use the keyboard. Not that I refuse to use one but i just prefer to keep my mouse n keyboard at my pc. Thats the whole point of a console. I understand it could be handy. I don't care if someone bashes me as a newer player. Voice chat is superior and I prefer it. It's not bad on ANYONES part to play a game they pay for how they see fit. Anyways I would Organize a FC that is ps4 based if enough were willing and we could manage to get on same server. I have 2 friends that play and would be willing to reroll or transfer if possible so if I can get 10-20 people that want this we could work things out and make it happen. And for the record you "veterans" wanna sit around and bash people feel free but I wont be reading my chat box anyway so have fun with that.
Naiyla then if you don't read the chat you become a liability since the chat will have macroed warnings and other things mentioned(like hello at start - if you are that self absorbed that you don't want to even say hi then your problem). I just bought a 10eur usb keyboard that I use for both ps3 and ps4 and have no issue - hell I chat during duties in FC chat and LS chat more than I do in the party chat - and I'm playing with a controller on a ps4.
Embrace the diversity that SE put in the game with having PC, PS3 and PS4 users mixed in. Rather than trying to be a PS4 only exclusive FC how about trying for a FC that is friendly to everyone, let's have some fun and if people want some progression as well.
Nobody will bash you as such - hell most people in duties rarely say a word other than the initial greeting(which you can just macro). The only reason people are saying to have a keyboard around is for chat - and frankly it's limited. Usually before bosses someone will explain the strategy if there are new people(in the chat box you don't plan on reading). Also when you queue up for duty roulette expect to be paired with people that don't have voice chat capability at all(and believe me you will be queueing up once you hit that).
Also what's the point of voice chat when at most you have 8 people chatting(on the ps4) in a party. You won't be able to chat with all the buddies in your linkshell or FC at the same time. If you really want to focus on voice chat get a FC that uses an external voice chat system(like mumble, teamspeak or vent) get a smartphone app ro a tablet app(if you have either) and have that next to you to voice chat with them.
And as for your "voice chat is supperior" attitude sure it is. If everyone can clearly hear and understand eachother. I rather have a macro that posts a "Warning do this <se.1><se.1><se.1>" that will notify with sound and with an explanation in the chat box than having someone try and yell at me through 4/8 others chatting in the voice chat.
But anyway the choice is yours. Enjoy the game any which way you please. I do hope you will enjoy the game in your own way.
I'm on PS4 and I've seen a few on Brynhildr, where I am. It's not a big deal to me though because I have a wireless USB keyboard that I can easily switch between my PC and PS4 (both are hooked up to my TV). I'm in a FC with pretty much all PC players, from what I can tell. I use the controller to play and the keyboard to chat.
I also agree that not reading the chat box isn't a very good idea...I think the only situation in which I'd even care to use the PS4 voice chat is if I'm in a light party with only other PS4 users. I imagine eight people would end up being too chaotic and you could easily miss things during a fight, but I think four would be ok. The only thing that bothers me at all about the chat box is having to add all the RMT spammer accounts (advertising gil and power leveling selling) to my blacklist. I've been playing for about a week and I see a few of them pretty much every day. It's rather annoying...but it only takes a few seconds to block them.
I'm very glad for the option to use a keyboard though; without it, I don't think I would get very involved with anyone in my FC in doing stuff simply because it takes too much time to type with the controller, and so far they have been very helpful, so I'd be missing out.
PS4 only FC just because of voice chat?
Have fun understanding the different ways of broken english from other countries or are you going to want one nationality only too? lol
I don't have a PS4, but are there really no other options for ppl with keyboard-phobia like a TS3 client or comparable to achieve this??
It may sound provocative, but if you do not want to communicate with other ppl, maybe MMOs are not the games for you.
We actually have a PS4 only FC on Behemoth. The only requirement is being an adult and using voice chat while running content with FC members. We're a chill, small but active group with a mix of levels and experience. The FC is only a couple weeks old but we're at Rank 6 and buffs are always active. If you're interested hit me up on PSN with any questions: thecapeo. You can join one of our chats and see if we seem like a fit.
To op:
Don't forget you can use your tablet/smart phone or Vita as a keyboard using the app.
If your playing with PS players you can also skype them with said devices to.
im curious as i'm about to switch ps3 to ps4 next month, is there an in-game voicechat especially for ps4 players? or does the ps4 have a chat feature that runs on its OS for every game? otherwise i don't understand this, i've always just ran ts3 on my laptop or phone as ps3 has no way to voicechat
PS4 has party chat which allows you to chat across any game with PS4's and PSVitas, So not in-game no but is not necessary due to party chat.
I was hoping PS4 would support in game voice chat (at least while in party) but that did not happen.
You can make party chats of up to 8 people on PSN. Doesn't matter what game you're playing or if you're even playing a game at all. The PS4 comes with an ear bud and mic that plugs into the controller. You can also use any compatible headset/earbud setup so long as at has the same plug type.
With your phone use the PS app. Connect to PS4. Once connected you then hit Virtual Keyboard (I think that's what it's called, it's the little keyboard symbol). You still have to hit triangle to open a chat window in game. Then whatever you type on your virtual keyboard comes out on screen. I found it to be pretty inefficient though honestly. Every time your phone goes into sleep mode you then have to open the app again, hit the keyboard button again, click triangle on the controller still. In the end I just plugged a USB keyboard into my PS4.
I'll talk to my guys and maybe we can transfer or restart whatever on behemoth. Guys here is my problem with the keyboard thing. I bought my console specifically to put my mouse and keyboard away. Why do some of you feel the need to impose your opinions on me using a keyboard or not. This whole thread was related to looking for a ps4 only fc so we could use party chat. One of my friends is playing his first mmo in ff, being a console player only this is his first real glimpse into group mechanics and needing organization to tackle objectives. He has his plate full just learning basic mmo game mechanics, we dont want him getting frustrated having to chat and focus on everything going on around him plus do his classes job. Voice chat allows us to seamlessly and effortlessly help him without having to swap in another device to communicate. I got a 2 year old so I can put together a lot of broken english so speaking perfect english would not be necessary.
On a sidenote I was playing a lil earlier this morning and I DID pay attention to the chat box. Guess what? RMT Gold sale spam and experience and loot spam. Went in to customize chat windows and did see a lot of good options. But then i thought to myself why not just use voice chat?
Thank you and you are right, I'm better of just using the controller. I have become rather adept at using the point and click feature to select letters with the ps4 controller. In case anyone is not aware of this feature just hit r3 when you have the keyboard open, it's much easier and faster than using the pad or stick to select letters, once you get used to it.
This is just something all jerks seem to need to do on message boards. If you post something they don't like or agree with they feel the need to put in their 2 cents, instead of just ignoring the post and letting the people that agree with it or that it applies to converse. There is no point in trying to explain to them, as the feel their way is the only way. Please don't think I'm referring to all the people who responded as jerks, some are really just trying to be helpful.
Definitely check Thumb Knights out then. No keyboard needed ;). And language wise everyone is either American or from the UK. We have 19 people that are on daily at this point and everyone helps everyone else out as far as leveling, dungeons, advice etc. We have a bunch of MMO vets and a few first timers learning the ropes as well. We have fun and we're progressing well, got a couple people in the 80s, a few in the 70s, a few fresh 50s and people just taking it at a leisurely pace. No pressure to do anything you don't feel like doing. So long as your cool and respectful to everyone I'd think you'd enjoy our little group.
If you want your FC to communicate through the PS4's voice chat, I'm pretty sure that limits your FC to only 8 players. That's not necessarily a point against the idea, as small FCs can be great if they're active enough to make friends with the other few people in them. But it is a limitation that you'll need to consider.
For instance, making an all-FC dungeon run at high levels where you have 8 people in your party would require all 8 FC members to be there for it. And on any dungeon runs that include non-FC members you'd be back to using text chat anyway. (So you still need a keyboard, because you'll sometimes need to use it to communicate. It's just a matter of whether you always need to use it.)
New players only get bashed for refusing to communicate at all, which nobody has suggested. You're not going to get bashed for communicating more effectively through voice in place of the clumsy and limited communication through text.
They're in-game text chat. Just private chat channels within the regular chat window.
Thx for the info, didn't know it limited to 8 on psn party chat. Disappointing considering a crap game(in my opinion) like dc universe online has voice chat.
The way our FC makes use of the party system is to have one or two open parties up to figure out who wants to run what or just shoot the shit while doing solo stuff. When a group wants to run a dungeon they make thier own chat so as to be able to communicate easily and not have people talking over each other. When they're done they just bounce back to one of the main chats. Seems to work out well. And most of us have keyboards to be able to communicate with folks outside our FC that we may be running with.
Personally I don't really care for voice chat that much, heck I don't even use it in my own personal life so I am not about to start now. I only talk to people on my cell that I know in person. Its nothing person I just like keeping my private life well private..etc.
Haha, To the OP: that mentality is exactly why we Formed Thumb Knights. I saw an opportunity with PSN chat and wonted to build something around that. Coming from FFXI, where typing was the only way to communicated i personally felt very disconnected with linkshell members.
Higher lvl elitist who look down on PS4 players not being as vocal on text chat is a joke. i've been on all sides, playing MMOs with Vent up, XI with just text chat, and XIV with VC. I can say that if you find it challenging or a hinderance to type with the controller, do what you can and find people who will be in the same boat as you. I personally have a keyboard hooked up to my PS4 but only out of habit with MMOs (i like to write macros, not so easy to do with the controller)
As far as the 8 man limitations, like Cap said, we work just fine. i find it to be very easy to switch out of FFXIV and drop in to the Voice Chat menu, switch parties or make a new one and move back to FFXIV.
To OP: Voice chat is nice when it makes sense, but in this game you're not gonna be able to get by with voice chat only. Basically you're going to have to read the text onscreen and you will have to interact with others with text. There are several options for how to do it but you will have to. Even with a FC that's PS4/voicechat only you will encounter, and have to work with, folks not in your FC.Like it or not,it's something you're going to have to adapt to. You can try to ignore it but you'll have a LOT less fun that way.
On ps4 you can create party voice chat . Simple
I like the idea of a ps4 FC. Like someone wrote earlier, just join with people that are on the same boat! I'm a ps4 user and I do find it very frustrating having to use the controller to write. So, if anyone DOES open a ps4 FC, I'm all in. I don't mind typping at all but I do prefer to VC and if someone don't share the same opinion then that is too bad for them.
If your up for server change to Behemoth, come check out Thumb Knights. We just ask that you spend a day in our voice chat party to get a feel for your personality. PSN: Geracia2
I'm a console gamer and dislike playing with Mouse and Keyboard. HOWEVER, using a keyboard for chat is far superior to the on screen keyboard. Voice chat is cool, but talking over others sucks. Imagine if the whole game had open voice chat.. seven hells! lol
Hi I started a ps4 fc a couple I weeks ago called FATE of Phoenix with tag of ps4, and I always have an open party chat going while I'm playing any1 is welcome to join send me a message to my ff name Olek Skillgannon and I'll add you to fc, got 6 members so far but want loads more so we can team up for endgame dungeons
