From time to time, be it waiting for party finders to fill, statics to start, or just because I get the urge, I'll wander about the great land of Eorzea. I thoroughly enjoy the diversity of the land more than it's 1.0 counterpart, but after finding myself roaming the outer plains for over half a year it's gotten kind off old.
I missed being able to explore the depths of Uldah's Copperbell and Nanawa Mines. I miss being able to roam Gridania's Tam Tara Deepcroft and the Mun-Tuy Cellars. I desire to once more wander Limsa's Misbread Cove, Cassiopeia Hollow and Shposhae.
I know some of these are, or are featured in Instanced Dungeons, but how about giving us the best of both worlds? Perhaps in future expansions, once you complete certain Instanced Dungeons, it can become a Zone that features Fates and DoL initiatives for solo playing. Still keep the DF Server Instances with the mobs, bosses, loot, exp grinding, but completely separated from the Zone variation of it.

On a serious and non-ATMA note. I would love more open world content. REAL open world content and not running between FATEs. Great idéa with the dungeons! They already have the layout, they only need to put in NPCs! -

(Side Note)
The Beastmen and Imperial Strongholds are nice to roam as well but I guess what I'd like to see are areas like dungeons with their own dedicated Zone. Like I would love to make trips to places like the Lost City of Amdapor without needing a party to get in or having to "Complete the Duty" or worrying about time restrains on how long you can be in there. -

add elite mobs that drop tokens for new sets, add some bosses around that drop items .....like OP version of the fate mobs that spawn in the original zone (Cancer extreme mode 4 example :P).....hmmm lets call it DynAbyss zones :rolleyes: -

100% agree we need more open world content. Atma is a step in the right direction IMO, even though it urked a lot of players it is still better than running an instanced dungeon 100 times.

I wonder if it wouldn't be difficult to just add a zone line to the instanced dungeons entrances. You know, those cool looking places you had to go to only once to allow access to the dungeon in duty finder. Use the same maps and add mobs, bam, a dungeon you can explore.

When the expansion does come I do hope that we get more than Vast plains with entrances to Instanced Dungeons that we'll never have to go to again once unlocked in DF and FATES with very little intrigue. I kind of want them to do like what they did with Chimera before it was DF'ed as well. Have bosses in the open world that you can challenge for special purposes without more than half the server turning it into a lag/Spank fest.Quote:

Imagine there being an entrance. This zone having 3 levels and all being level 50 monsters.
1st floor: Soloable especially with a chocobo: hidden locations with chest pops with crafting mats or gil and some rare monsters here that drop 1,000gil. While the entrance area will be easy towards the end the mobs are more packed and more organized so clearing the end of the room as you want to get to the 2nd gets more difficult.
2nd floor: 4-man Party requirement: It's not needed to be in a party to navigate this zone. You may be able to clear some mobs here in the entrance if you have BiS gear but a couple mobs in you wont survive that easily. As a party there will be places you may want to explore to get chests that provide gil, pots, ventures. This zone will always have up to 3 Mini-Bosses that drop gil and semi-decent accessories.
3rd floor: Alliance requirement: Not needed to enter but it's recommended to navigate this area safely towards the MvP. The MvP in the zone is protected by the zones mob layout (Think Chimera Fate in North Thanalan but in a grander scale). It can drop a desirable piece of gear and every participant gets a platinum allagan pouch.

Imagine this zone being massive the scale of CT and for the sake of diversity all monsters past 20% in the middle section already difficult enough that will require parties to clear.
The 3 Mini-Bosses could be separated in the opposite sides of the zone guarding chests of gil one of them guards the entrance to the area where the MvP is located. Killing the bosses could buff or debuff this zones MvP.
All in all we can take this set up and spread it out through Eorza and have many unique open world dungeons.
Big scaled, multiple layered, and labyrinth designed. With changes to visual designs. Climate, architectural, indoor, outdoor. Mobs that live here have a geological reason for being there. We can have a forest zone ruled by Malboro, a sunken labyrinth where worms and the undead have made their home, a frozen utopia where dragons and ogres reside, the possibilities are endless.
Personally I would rather have this model for open world over one that relies on fates. -

Having said that though, there are plenty of open 'dungeons' from version 1.0 that have not returned (Sohpsae, Mistbeard Cove, Nanwa Mines, Mun-tuy Cellars etc), plus also don't forget several zones are completely missing (most of Coerthas, the lower southern half of Mor Dhona around Camp Brittlebark, the West Shroud), and given there's tons of artwork of areas (which appear to be open world too at that) that are not in the game yet, it's clear there will be new zones coming in the future. What we have now is obviously not all that there is going to always be. -
