Is it just me or are all these gil sellers ran by 14 year old kids?

I mean, like really who taught them to run a business? XD (Yes this is a post of me making fun of them. As they really are pretty pathetic. )

Like, why do they think that spamming you over and over multiple times will get people to want to buy from them? More importantly, do they understand that 1000k is 1 mil? I swear they run these business' to make money but have no clue how to run a business!

Anyways, enough ranting. Is there a way we can report these jerks? It gets annoying to get tells everyone 5 mins from them specially when I know my self I would never buy off such idiots in my life. XD It is like, "I spam u with horrible grammar will you buy me gold?" lol get out! :P

They do it because it works. Just like email spam. Doesn't matter if you hit 1000 people who aren't the target market as long as you also hit the target market. It's such a terrible business model that it's been successful for as long as there have been MMOs.

To report them, main menu > support > contact us > report cheating. Or something like that.

yes, they are annoying, yes you can report them, no they are not going to go away.

I think that the type of people who buy game currencies using real money would do so anyway - regardless of the wording, spelling, grammar, etc., used by the seller - as long as it had a semi-legible URL and a reasonable price. It could just say "Wow, you must really suck at FFXIV if you need to buy gil. You're pathetic, kupo! (website name) (1m/$1)" and I guarantee they would still have customers.

Also I remember when the game first came out in towns there was literally a non stop waterfall of ad shouts. Even if you WANTED to buy from them you couldn't read the info in time. They're idiots.

I think the lolcat language rmt uses is to avoid being redflagged by the anti rmt filters. It's that or they're all valley girls.

It sucks there hitting there target base of 14 yrs, and making something and then they just get more teenagers and they keep transfer the money back and forth it like a pyramid scheme. Reason most of the adults hate it. It like the old 60yrs+ get the stupid phone calls and one them accept it.

I guess they figured if Billy Mays screaming at you can sell a cleaning product, them annoying the crap out of you is a legit business strategy.

The language is horrible to A) bypass filters, or B) google translated it for them from their native language. The reason they do spam it, is because it works. A lot of people who have never played an MMO wouldn't understand that it is against the rules to buy gil. It's been that way since the beginning of MMOs.

judging by most of the in game attitudes and practices, the majority of the player base is 14 year old kids too. So it would make sense

It's what mass marketing is all about. It's the reason we have e-mail spam, unsolicited callers, even television advertising. It doesn't matter how annoying or intrusive it is, or how much it alienates the majority of people - if it's cheap, and manages to bring even a tiny percentage of customers from the overall number of people being advertised to, then it is profitable and unlikely to stop anytime soon.

English usually isn't their first language. By taking up space, it forces it you to see it. The text doesn't matter as long as the website is in there. I'd honestly be curious to see a documentary or something on the daily life of an RMT.

I wouldn't doubt that they are all ESL from outside of the US. Sitting next to that guy trying to save the Nigerian prince via email.

Most of them are automated programs not even real people, real people cant send messages as fast as rmt do. My wife and i both play and we can get the same tell at the exact same time from the same rmt mule, something that's impossible for a normal player to do. the program is also probably designed to send messages occasionally to a test mule to see if its going though and change the tell if the message is blocked.

Actually, they're generally owned by older people abusing 12 year olds in sweat shops, having them use bots on hundreds of throwaway laptops. Much like any cheap good that China partakes in, you're pretty much looking at child labor.

Whatever they're doing it apparently works, because if they had no buyers they would simply give up.

There was a documentary on RMT I can't remember what it was called though.

I recall that some of the big companies put on a legitimate act, had nice offices and employed college students on a part-time schedule. Their advertising tactics were to approach players in a friendly and well spoken manner, some farm their own currency and some get it from other sources.

Those sources were run down back room establishments crammed full of shady individuals working around the clock to with no downtime. Some also try their hand at selling directly and are the most likely the variety we're dealing with in this game

RMT promoters are essentially the same as those people you see shouting and handing stuff out on the street. They're just yelling out indiscriminately (for the most part) and trying to get your attention for a product or service they know most don't want. This is all in hopes of either getting that one person who buys into it or being remembered for potential future business.

Just because it's a fresh memory, it reminds me of my recent trip to Tokyo. All those Nigerian (mafia?) people asking if I want ***ties or drugs. Or those maid cafe girls handing out fliers. Dat advertising.

That's actually a pretty terrible idea, both the reply and the shout. The reply lets the seller know that you're a real person, not another seller, so they can put you on a list to make sure you get more advertising. The shout draws peoples' attention to the seller - INCLUDING potential customers. You're doing their advertising work for them!

And spamming them with tells - they don't care. In all likelihood, they are automated by computer, and can neither understand nor be annoyed by tells. Even if it's a human behind the spam, they will be used to abuse and probably don't even read tells sent their way. Their only purpose is to draw folks' attention to their websites.

After I quit FFXI, I never really touched MMO's till now so it hadn't occurred to me to think about. And back then I was a dumb teenager who didn't think about who was actually behind the screen. They are annoying, persistent, using cheating tactics and provide a service counteractive to our idea that this game is always fair. They also aren't actually doing anything illegal (the actual selling that is). You can't be arrested for being a gold farmer. After reading this watching the vids the other poster linked, I gotta say I feel kinda bad for them. China's population is so gigantic it's nearly impossible to find a job, so you take what you can get. Either that, or you're forced to do it (or both). I wouldn't buy gil, but I also wouldn't harass them. Usually the messages are automated anyway.

Sadly as idiotic as these gil sellers are, even stupider people still buy from them.
