SCH macro troubles

To all of you SCH that use Eos in Obey mode, do you find any of your macros with more than one fairy command hardly ever works, because Eos always finds a way to sneak an automatic Embrace in the mix and mess the entire macro function up? How do you get around this?

I made a beautiful macro that looks good on paper, works like a charm out of combat when testing, but inside combat, it never works! Here it is, it was for a Rouse/Fey Illumination combo and then a Whispering Dawn for big AoE heals:

i would actually recomend you just using different hotkeys for the fairy skills, if she moves or casts embrace mid macro you might have to press it again and wait the whole process to go by again, to have the chance of her doing the exact same thing she did the first time...

and for the ressurect macro, it will cast swift catst on you then try casting ressurect on all the party members in the number order, again... there is a chance that somehow the macro fails and you have to press it again and again till it works... of course if you have a<t> there, there isnt much sense in having the whole party on macro, or the target... since it is on top of the list, it means you will try to cast res on the target first, if you have already selected him.. no need to go though the whole party again.

the macros i use for fairies are only embrace focus target and mouse over, for the exact reasons you mentioned, maybe setting fairy to steady might help but.. i doubt it.

Macros don't queue up like normal abilities do. Because of this, if you hit a macro for Whispering Dawn, she'll often Embrace instead and you'll have to smash the macro until she decides to listen. It's better to actually bind the petbar actions themselves, because they WILL queue (if you press Whispering Dawn while she's using Embrace, for example, she'll then use Whispering Dawn immediately after she finishes). I use a Naga, so I have skills 2-4 on the petbar bound to shift numpad 10, 11, 12 (and embrace bound to e).

Now, as to how the Raise macro works. It activates your Swiftcast and then goes down the list attempting to cast Raise. Think of it like an If/Then statement. If target is dead, raise him. If not, go to party member 2 and if he's dead, raise him. If not...so on and so forth. Personally I'd rather just do a simple /ac "Raise" <mo> and be done with it.

That's a good idea and have been catching myself doing that as of lately anyway in order to combat the macro silliness. My question for you now is, do pet actions queue in a line? Like you say if I hit Whispering Dawn while she's in Embrace, it will cast Whispering Dawn when finished. But say I hit Fey Illumination and then Whispering Dawn, will it do both of those actions in order if I hit one after the other while she's in Embrace? Also, I'm on console so I'm stuck with a controller for now, no fancy Naga gaming accessories haha. Thanks for the help!

That doesn't always work so beautifully, that's why I made this thread. When players' hp are down, Eos is constantly and automatically casting Embrace, so when you attempt to use a macro, Embrace messes up the macro sequence and the macro never goes off in the manner like you expect it should.

Steady or not, Eos will always cast Embrace on her own, automatically and constantly, when players' hp are down.

The problem with your macro is the /wait before Fey Illumination. Keep in mind that Eos/ Selene operate on their own GCD, so when you cast Rouse then /wait you are effectively giving Eos a second for her AI to auto-cast embrace and if she's casting after the /wait is over it wont go through. You want your Rouse +FI +WD macro to look something like this:

With this macro you basically mash it to get the skills through while everything past the first /wait is basically insurance that she'll continue the chain properly if you stop mashing before she starts casting WD. Also a little trick that most scholars aren't aware of is that if you want to use any of the fairy skills immediately without waiting for her to finish casting you can manually break her embrace by using any of the pet commands (heel, placing, stay and swapping between steady and guard). I have Stay on my bar which I click during those moments where I need a fairy skill fast (Selene's Silent Dusk being the big one) without worrying about her AI as when you break embrace it follows its CD as normal, so you have 1-2secs where they cannot cast embrace which is plenty for you to queue the skills. However! unless you avidly control your pets' placement I would suggest using Heel in place of Stay, because while in Stay they will not budge to heal anything beyond their range even if told so and if you forget that in the heat of the moment, well it could cause problems! lol I've never had an issue with Stay since I constantly use my trusty place/heel macro, but it's something to keep in mind if you wanna experiment.

They answered your first question already, but as to the second: You've got it exactly right, this should work fine. You'll need to hit the button twice, but seeing as /wait is a bit unreliable with all the lag going around lately, this is probably the better option. I use a controller, and this macro allows me to save one precious hotbar button, because when everybody is alive it doubles as a plain Swiftcast button.

Do you think I can make a macro that involves a stay command to break any of Selene's current cast and have her begin casting Silent Dusk at the same time?

Also on the topic of macros and macro trouble, has anyone ever noticed when you create a macro, you don't have the option of hitting the action early anymore to cast it again? For instance, the regular Physick action, when you cast it and the line rotates around the icon, when it lights up again (before the line makes a full rotation), you can hit the button to cast again and it will once the line makes a full rotation. Can't do that with Physick macros though :mad:

Tap this one whenever light/glow expires an it'll cast whichever one is off CD.

If ya wanna test'em first, manually cast embrace then click these macros and see if you like the feel of it or not.

Actually if you're interested check my post history, I wrote a macro guide for the controller a while back that you might find some useful info in. It's kinda outdated, like back then I had to put a /wait after the "stay" command otherwise the abilities wouldn't work properly (the patch where they changed the Obey behaviour also changed how macro'd pet actions behaved with fairy skills in the same 'line').

Yeah it's unfortunate but I believe that has to do with how the server handles skill procedure. When you queue an unmacro'ed skill it's actually your client that is queuing it then sending it ahead of time. However with macros and fairy abilities (contrary to the earlier statement fairy skills do not have the .5 skill queue) you are essentially sending a grocery list to the server asking it to perform these actions in this order, which is also why pressing a macro again deletes the previous one. With this in mind I'd advise against macro'in embrace to any of your core healing skills. Give embrace its own spot to prevent accidentally breaking WD while giving your physick/adlo that .5 queue ability. This is just my preference tho~

You need to spam the macro. I wouldnt use wait commands for your pet though.

I like this macro a lot now that I found out that Stay breaks current cast. How would you write the above macro if I wanted to include Fey Illumination before Whispering Dawn and only wanted to have to hit the macro button once and be done with it? I'm guessing a second Stay pet action would have to be included in there somewhere? Thanks, you're brilliant!

P.S. Also, I am guessing that if I were to use the above macro and similar, I would not be able to cast any heal spell that has an Embrace macro'd into it. That presents another issue. No, no need for a second Stay. Once you have committed a fairy to a macro they're pretty good at following it through from my experience. The macro would look something like this:

/wait 2
/pac "Whispering Dawn" <me>

Keep in mind I just whipped this up and tested it slightly so I don't know how it'll hold up if you have a spotty connection. Which also is why I really don't advise using macro's that rely on /wait's to fulfill their actions, especially for important things like Rouse +FI +WD. I would advise sticking to the mash macro I posted earlier because not only is it faster (/wait's will always be slower than just pressing a skill) you'll less likely get screwed over by lag which can break your macro, or in the rare case, perform it out of order (WD coming before FI).

As to your PS; If you're gonna use macro's you really only need two "Whispering Dawn's" on your bar. One that combines Rouse, Fey Illumination and Whispering dawn with the '/macroicon "Fey Illumination" pet' to show you its CD. And another that combines Whispering Dawn and Rouse with '/macroicon "Whispering Dawn" pet' to show you their CDs. Since Rouse and WD share the same 60 sec CD there is really no reason to use them independently and if you are casting FI there is really really no reason to not cast R+WD as that gives you the strongest team-wide HoT available to SCH's. Also you can macro embrace to all your heal abilities if you wish, as long as the other macros are mainly mashro's or 'one-liners' that execute instantly. Like once WD is casting pressing a physick+embrace macro won't break it, only being interrupted by a monster or clicking a pet order will. I just personally don't like it because I oft order the fairies to off heal some melee dps that got nicked or after party-wide damage and casting WD I find letting her AI take-over is pretty efficient in most cases as it's good at picking out the lowest health members in her range. On my bar I have Embrace and Physick side-by-side an mash'em as a pair for those single target cures. It's up to you really!

Does it work if you only press the button once, though? In my experience any time you have multiple pet actions in one macro they don't seem to work sequentially without a /wait or unless you mash the button.

But yeah, the problem with /wait commands is that you can only have one macro running at a time, so if you have a /wait 2 somewhere in a macro, and you also use macros for your regular heal spells (for mouseover healing, for example) then you cannot use those heal spells for two seconds after you use your cooldown macro or you'll break it.

Back when I first discovered this they couldn't be executed at the same time as they wouldn't work properly and Stay was outright broken on Selene (she couldn't cast Silent Dusk while in Stay, even if I dropped her right beside the enemy) so I had to use Obey to break her casts. However the patch where they revamped the fairy behaviour changed how the pet orders work; Like Obey no longer breaks castings, Stay no longer borks Silent Dusk, Heel can break casts just as easily as Stay now (heel would only break casts when she was at a distance, if she was behind you it would do nothing) and the biggest change, orders are now near instant relative to the fairy's moves. I'm not 100% sure what they changed but my guess is that they moved the pet orders client side (which might explain why Sic is now completely locked out) in an attempt to make her more responsive. Basically, you probably noticed how when ya click a fairy skill they take their sweet time in casting it? Well when ya click these macro's that delay acts as a pseudo /wait in-between the Order and Skill which makes these work 99% of the time now I find.

I've done some tests with the Silence macro for Selene earlier this week, which is /pac stay and /pac "silent dusk" <f>. During a Stone Vigil run I tried to interrupt the ice sprites casts and also tried to use the macro explicitly while Selene was casting Embrace. Granted, the number of tries is very limited, but it worked fine for me with pressing the button once (as in interrupt landed in time).

Why are you guys pairing Fey Illumination and Rouse?

That's overkill for a regen. Whispering dawn is only 21s and almost all of that will over heal.

Because it's the most efficient use of those CDs. The whole purpose of AoE HoT's is to top a party off after heavy raid wide-damage the quickest and cheapest means possible while continuing to focus the tank. While Rouse, Fey Illumination and Whispering Dawn is pretty overkill the HoT is so potent that your fellow WHM can completely forgo using Medica/2 or Cure 3 after heavy party damage which in turn conserves their MP pool at the cost of a relatively short 2min CD (compared to their 3min SoS). Like, if you're using FI to simply boost overall heals by 20% it's all gonna go to waste over-healing the tank, which for a 2min CD is fairly pointless. In that situation you're better off dropping Sacred Soil and Virus/Eye for an Eye to reduce overall damage.

I have my Fey Illumination tied to a Rouse Macro and Whispering Dawn by itself. To answer your question, the only time I'd ever really need to even hit Whispering Dawn is in a time when I will actually need it. In that case, I definitely want the over heal. It also conserves MP if you get topped off quick and makes Titan's Weight of the Land and plumes a joke.

Efficient? How? I can't think of any situation pre-coil2 that requires that strong of a HoT that doesn't immediately go to waste within 5 secs of casting it. Rouse + WD alone will produce the same result every single time.
The reality is, your partner WHM will continue to cast Medica II oblivious to whatever fancy buff you cast further adding to the over healing.

I much rather use Fey illum independently in situations where WD is not up. e.g. buffing a WHM's HoTs because yours are down.

You're overlooking the fact that both Tanks continue to benefit greatly from the empowered HoT for its whole duration. Lets say we ignore the party wide aspect and look at from a single target perspective; During Fey Illuminations 20sec duration Eos's Embrace will only heal an additional 300-400 health while a Rouse/FI/WD heals that much in a single tick. Granted in this example the most efficient route would be to cast Fey Illumination and pop Rouse/WD during the last 5 secs of FI to get the best bang for your buck but that's besides the point. It's just that on a pure HPS basis if you cast FI and both Rouse/WD are off CD there really isn't much reason not to use them, even if only two members of your team will feel the full benefit, simply because those two skills are on such a low CD. Also don't get me wrong, if R/WD is on CD and suddenly things go terribly wrong and you need that extra oomph then you should cast Fey Illumination, no question.
Another big reason why I usually pair Rouse and FI together, and this doesn't apply to everyone, is that I try to actively DPS as often as I can and the 20sec duration is perfect without worrying about that Dragoon that attracts damage like a magnet. Just plop a Sacred Soil, go cleric and lay down all your dots and start casting Shadow Flare which always finishes casting about a sec after SS ends and if you're quick you can sneak in a buffed adlo to top it off. Feels great lol

Also yeah you're right, more often than not in pugs the Whm will continue to cast Medica 2 even if it isn't needed but that's more of a failure of communication than anything else.

Thanks for the tip! Thanks to this I made some fooling around and found that /pac "Heel" <me> also works just as well as Stay for me :D Indeed, I like Heel better than Stay in most instances

I must say, this is the first time I've ever heard of a HoT being too strong. lol. Though I dont use FI, WD, and Rouse all at the same time. I use WD and Rouse together (conveniently same cooldown times) and FI when I need some stronger heals. Best example: 4 stack Cad

Really glad I came across this. I added one of the many Phys/Aldo macros, but couldn't work out why healing just felt "off". This would be why. It doesn't seem to be a very well known fact about healing macros (or macros in general).

With my latency on a non-macro Physick I can hit the spell once when the cooldown animation on the icon goes past 3/4, and it'll start the next cast right away.

When I try it with Physick in a macro, this doesn't happen at all, the spell has to finish its cast/gcd before the next and depending on your latency this could potentially cut down your healing throughput by a noticeable amount.

Definitely going the way you did and having non-macro heals and Embrace on its own button.

When I use Eos, I use her just for this. Overheal for no mana and all threat on the fairy with a pretty short cooldown - no problem!

Np! and yeah depending on your playstyle replacing Stay with Heel would be the best route. It's just that I personally use a combo'd Place/ Heel macro constantly that gives me both actions in a single click. Actually if you or anybody wants to try it out it's:

I love this macro cause not only does save me a slot it makes moving her outta AoE's really easy and re-placing her after a knockback much more fluid (Heel triggers that half a sec wind-up when moving so it's less apparent when you confirm her new placement). Just be sure to wright it in that order, otherwise you won't get the Place reticle.

I wouldn't say it isn't widely known, it is the sole reason why there aren't many dps macro setups out there. It's just that most healers don't really care for the .5 sec queue enough to forgo the convenience of combo'in Embrace an Physick, which is why most healer macro guides tend to overlook that aspect. Our class isn't built to to milk the GCD for all its worth like the DPS do. That said there are healing intensive moments due to mechanics or general team f**k-ups where having that .5 queue is glorious and is reason enough for me to want it. Keep in mind though that this doesn't apply to Embrace, so the solo embrace skill you can turn into a mouseover macro and it'll be just as slow as the base Embrace.
