Your Character's Name

So just for fun:

What influenced your main character's name? Was it something silly? Something you've read in the past? Your favorite anime or Final Fantasy character?

For me, I chose "Deucalion" after the main character from Dean Koontz's "Frankenstein" series. The last name "Promethuson" being the fact that in Greek mythology, Deucalion was the son of Prometheus.

So what about the rest of you? What's the meaning/history of your character's name? :)

It's how my Americans friends pronounce my real name.

Was male to start with, which is why I altered it.

I think my main's name is pretty obvious (to most people who watch anime, anyway) where it's from. I just preferred to use Kaoru as the spelling instead of Kaworu, since the online name I go by is Kaori. Kaoru's the version of the name I use for male characters (if I even use my regular online name anyway).

I got Xanros from a past character.
Literally, I hit a few keys and put in a vowel here and there and Xanros happened. Tawse comes from some crafting I used to be involved in. I used to make those and a few other things. Google tawse if curious.

My friend had a cat named Tiggy whom when held would make the most angry sounds. I named my character after that Kitty in FFXI. In FFXIV it's an homage to my FFXI character.

Not obvious to me, I have no idea where it's from.

My name isn't inspired by anything. Just something I thought of when I was creating the character. Brown was the first last name I thought of that sounded ok with Nalia.

Failia has been something I've been using for a few years now, starting up in Global Agenda. It was just an attempt and making a play on words with the word fail and actually NOT doing that. I normally do Failia for female and Failion for male. My future tank's name is Failion.

As for my last name....it was just something random I thought up. No meaning to it at all really.

My character's first name, Enkidoh, is how Squaresoft's US division translated 'Enkidu', the name of Gilgamesh's lackey in the PS1 version of FFV - I picked the name at random out of an old issue of gaming magazine EGM when I needed an online handle for eBay - it's stuck with me ever since. ;)

As for my character's surname, Roux, that was the surname my bf chose for his character as well, so it seemed logical I give Enki the same surname. :3 I can't remember the reasons he gave me as to his choice though. :p

EDIT: also it should be noted that when I created my character in 1.0, there was virtually no lore mentioned at all as to the naming conventions of Seekers of the Sun kittygirls, so I just used the same name I used in FFXI for my mithra. :3 If I'd known then what the naming conventions were like, would I have gone for a lore-based name? Probably, but I have come up with a story reason why my character doesn't have a lore-based name. But that's a story for another time... ;)

I wanted a whimsical silly name for my lala character, and the monk class in particular, so Peony Punchup was born. The inspiration for this came from a character called Penelope Pitstop, for some reason that character name was floating around in my head at the time! I usually pick serious character names for characters, and wanted something different too.

Ever since I was younger and I got into RPG's or any game that allowed me to name characters myself, I would name my main or only character "Marik". I can't honestly remember where I first found that name. When I got into Yu-Gi-Oh and got to Battle City season, and discovered there was a character named Marik I just squeed all over the place! So then most of my character names started to become "Yamimarik", but thanks to FFXI I got tired quickly over people calling me just "Yami" @.@

So that's Marik.

"Destiel". If any SPN fans are around, and love pairings, well Destiel is my OTP <3 for this fandom. Doesn't matter what their relationship is, from fanfics as lovers, to the show as just having a "profound bond". I just love these two characters "Castiel" + "Dean" together in anything and everything! Plus Destiel just rolls off the tongue for me, so was just perfect to have as a surname since it was a first for me in a MMORPG.

Lilly Most Beautiful

Azucena is Spanish for lily, and is most commonly used to represent the Madonna lily, and Calix is Greek for most beautiful or very handsome.

That and I like A, X and Z names. :3

Richter Valens: Richter means "judge" in German, it was the name of my FFXI character so I carried it over. Valens taken directly from Chloe Valens from Tales of Legendia (my favorite sword wielder in the Tales series). Valens is like valor, so strength, etc. I though it was kidna cool to put in with Richter (judge of valor? :D) Then later someone pointed out to me that it's also really close to the singer Richard Valenzuela, a.k.a. Ritchie Valens. Not that I'm complaining, but it made me laugh since I hadn't even considered the similarity xD

My alt is Tanith Aurion. Tanith (Tanit) was a Phoenician goddess of war, the moon, and fertility iirc. Was the deity of Carthage as well. Aurion from Kratos Aurion in Tales of Symphonia. Aurion means "morning" in (ancient?) Greek, if I recall.

I used an online anagraming tool to rearrange the letters of my real life name into a name that's suitably Hellsguard Roegadyn-ish as according to FFXIV naming lore. It's not perfect; apparently female Hellsguard usually have a flower or plant for the second of their two names, but I like it. :)

First name is an MST3K reference. I've used it (and various other punctuations) in MMOs since FFXI. "Kai" is the Greek symbol for "and." Didn't want both my first and last name to be long & annoying to type.

Reohart is an alternate name for the Pink Rathian (AKA Rathian Heart) in Monster Hunter. I liked the way it sounded so I generally use it for my female characters. As an added bonus it's something that didn't sound girly when shortened for when people talk to me on voice chat. Redstarr was randomly generated (and tweaked) when I created the character (Originally a highlander).

My Super Novice on Ragnarok Online was named Zyrin. His full name was Zyrin Piri and I RP'd him as a character trying to hide his heritage as a cat boy since he was ostracized in his youth as being a hybrid Human / cat. I took that name and converted it to Zyrin Pyrial since I wanted to sound less cute but still retain the original name sake.

How I came up with Zyrin in the first place? I dunno, I think I just wanted something that started with the letter "Z" and went with it.

[EDIT] Piri came about because during his time out in the field, he ended up befriending a rather eccentric Alchemist by the name of Valencia Piri who ended up "adopting" him (IE, forcing him into her family) because he was just SOOOOOOO CUUUUUUTE WITH HIS CUTE CAT EARS (her words, not mine, heh), hence how he became Zyrin Piri.

[EDIT2] My forum name, Ghishlain came about since that's my XI character name which is based off a minor character portrayed in a book series I like, and loved the way it sounded (Ghislain)

It's German/Romanian for Iron Gram.
For iron-y.

If I knew about the Roegadyn language when I came up with it, it would be something like Iyrnklyn Loetmyndsyn. But sense he grew up in Ul'Dah, the Hellsguard/Highlander convention works well enough.

Take a X, replicate it and the 2 cancel each other creating "The Void" aka 5th Element. (This was my original handle since the BBS days and before AOL)

I was 7 yrs old when I made the handle. Now some crappy UK Rock Band felt entitled to use it. Most likely from my Unreal Tournament days in Clan Tournaments.

Its a mix from my FFXI name. Synapse.

i picked up Synapse from my biology class in grade 10, i been in love with that word ever since(high school crush i guess).

Marael is the name of a character in a story I wrote in 8th grade who was the queen of the demons and almost destroyed humanity with an army of the dead. I also used it as my character name in FFXI. Meowington, just because it was silly, and I couldn't think of anything else ^^V.

Osric = Shakespearan name, I think from Hamlet. Always liked it, phonetically.

Sylador = "Cellar door" was quoted by Tolkien as being the most beautiful phrase in the English language (this was also quoted in Donnie Darko). He used it to create a lot of his names for characters like Celador. I wrote it starting with "Syl-" because Sylph was my server in FFXI.

The name of my character from FFXI, which was an Asian sounding name to go with the one Asian looking face in FFXI.

Last name is Japanese for 'Again"

Because I'm Kazamoto Again.

Bolt because it's an element ala Lightning, Squall, Cloud, Tidus, Terra.

Narshe because i like the city so much in FF6. It was either that or Midgar.
