So I've farmed atma pieces since release, don't even want to state how many hours and I have 3? But there are players that had all 12 on day one and some on day two? So the best players in the game is decided by RNG? Hmmmmm.....

I got all my atmas on day one but i dont think im one of the best players :o I am currently on my 6th book :D
News flash. There are no "better" players. Just cocky ones.
B-but Kyth! Some players are better at raids! Some players outclass others with their mad MMO skillz!
1. All difficulty is determined by:
a. Your reaction time, this gets worse with age.
b. Your latency.
c. Whether or not you are a competent human being.
2. Your "mad skillz" are determined by:
a. How much time you have to sink into this game. (Be it memorizing patterns or RNG, I don't flippin' care.)
b. Your latency.
c. How much of a prick you tend to be to other players.
Better players don't boast. Better players don't bitch about those with less time getting gear in alternate ways. Better players contribute to their community in positive ways. Better players aren't jealous nor disdainful of other players that choose to sink more hours in.
Neutral stance. Be a better player.
No, the best players are determined by skill, not by their luck.
Someone who knows what they are doing will always be better than someone who doesn't, regardless of whatever slight upgrade their weapons have.
A DRG with a crafted i70 weapon doing the right stuff can easily out DPS some useless DRG with a Zenith spamming 1-2-3, as I recently found out.
I wouldn't say quite that. There are 3 weapons that are very, very comparable and they are all gotten with different paths.
Getting all 12 Atmas doesn't make you the "best" player.
Here's an example:

All iLvl 100.
As a matter of fact, when all is said and done (at least until 2.3), the Animus weapon is actually 3rd behind Allagan and Non-Weathered.
Having an Animus weapon isn't going to make a shitty player clear Rafflesia, much less what comes after.
This so needed another new thread. The OP's statement is a totally unique perspective on the whole atma thing.
Noob nerd geek
I am the best player.
Atma is not inherently better than Zenith. It's literally the exact same.
animus is when it's actually on par with any other i100 weapon, and that just means they grinded mid tier content for it. In no way are they "the best"
Atma a shit, people need to stop worrying about it.
This is the absolute best player:

His outfit is totally lore friendly, as a bonus! More than White Mages in plate!
The BEST players in the game should be determined by
1. Their willingness to learn and listen to advice
2. Their willingness to teach those who are learning
3. Whether or not people enjoy playing with them
4. Their understanding and comprehension of encounters, and their ability to formulate strategies (rather than just memorize someone's youtube video and copy it)
5. Their ability to undertake and adapt to any role or situation
Luck and RNG has nothing to do with being the best. And since the best shouldn't boast (cause it will probably conflict with 3) I don't think anyone could really point to who is the best players. With the exception of those who work out how to beat all the encounters first, and then share their strategies with others. And be humble about it. Kinda hard to find them sometimes.
Luck has nothing to do with how good player you are. I got my sixth atma and I have been and farmed fates almost 1 week and my friend got it done already, but we spent as much time on it.
Though seriously I do not care, because I know I will get it done soon anyway. I have plenty of other things to do in the game to improve myself and reach my goal.
ATMA whining thread with new title
i never see this coming
kudos
This is a PVE game. There is no such thing as "best players" because the only real way to judge players is on their gear and teammates.
I'd argue that PvP is the same way. There's no such thing as a super godlike Bard who can single handedly murder an entire team, the game rules just don't allow that sort of play. The way to be the "best player" in FFXIV is to be sociable and a good explainer of mechanics to those not as versed as you.
Fun, entertaining people are the ones who get my commends, and i'll take 7 of those players over the most "elite" players any day. Atma progression doesn't judge your skill, only your luck relative to others and the sheer amount of hours you're willing to dedicate to fate grinding. That's literally all its worth.
I cant say this enough. If you people want to be judged on player skill, go play a game like Tekken, Blazblue, Street Fighter or maybe League of Legends (although LoL's ranking system is a different monster entirely...)
I'll have to disagree with you there because just because your internet is crappy or live really far from servers doesn't mean you are a bad player. That is an external variable that is potentially out of your control. If anything someone who knows that they have lag and finds ways to get around it or even use it to their advantage is a much better player because they are literally maximizing what little resources they have. That being said as a PS3 player I have been in numerous instances where the mobs appear a second or two late so I adapt and react ahead of time. Often times I'm much quicker to react than my pc mates because I'm always think of whats not on the screen rather than waiting for it to show up.
Example:
T4 in the 2nd add phase when the solider and knight drops. I see their life bars first before I see the actual mob. So I throw a flash and OP and as soon as they appear on my screen I have full hate. If I was to wait until it showed on my screen they would be wailing on the healers.
I think you misunderstood me, or made assumptions about my motivations to declare such things. I never intended to say that high latency makes you a bad player. I was pointing out that, in the end, being a prick makes you a bad player.
For what it's worth, I live in the US and play on Masamune. Oh god do I know latency. But this is by choice.
