can someone explain why piece by piece is useful for the 3 star crafts?

So i saw a thread suggesting the use of piece by piece but i don't see why its useful. Please help.

I haven't looked into the 3-star crafts much but I would imagine that from the beginning of a craft, 1/3 of the progress > Rapid Synthesis.

It gives you 1/3 of whatever progress you have remaining. If you use it at zero progress, that means it's an immediate jump to 33%. Use it a second time (without any other Synthesis moves) and it puts you at ~55%. That's more progress than you'll get out of other Synthesis moves.

PBP is useless when you have enough Craftsmanship for Standard Synthesis to give more than 1/3 progress, since they cost the same. It's going to take a heck of a lot of Craftsmanship for that to be the case with 3-star recipes. See here.

Because 3 stars have roughly 450 difficulty, using Piece by Piece will give you better progress than Careful Synthesis II and Standard Synthesis even if you have Ingenuity II up.

I don't use PbP and I HQ 3* crafts every time. I don't see how it is useful either.

Ingenuity II + SEVEN Careful Synthesis II's will finish a 3 star recipe.

Steady Hand I + Piece by Piece x2 + Ingenuity II + THREE Careful Synthesis will finish a 3 star recipe.

One method reduces your Durability seven times. The other reduces your durability 5 times. Rotations that gamble on Hasty Touch's may not need Piece by Piece.

What's your craftmanship at. Also how much progress are you getting from Careful Synthesis II under Ingenuity II effect

Piece by piece is for the 3 star furniture. Sure, you could use it for 3 star armors, but you are just burning CP faster than you need to, in my opinion at least.

What Ddmk said for 3 star furniture though, you'd have to be rather lucky to do it without a couple piece by piece thrown in. It's rather funny to see someone try to make one for the first time... 0.o "Oh dear lord, the bar isn't moving.... IT ISN'T MOVING?!?!"

My first 3 star furniture that I was asked to make was one of the white raven pieces.... so yea, I was sweating just a little bit! It's not like furniture was ever a challenge to make until then, so it is amusing to find that they can be tricky once you hit the 3 stars.

Ingenuity2 > Waste Not > CSx6 is 40 durability + 10 durability for the CSII at the end for a total of 50 durability and only costs 88 CP (Ing2 is 32CP and Waste Not is 56 CP).

The alternative is: Steady Hand > Piece by Piece x2 and at the end of the craft use Ingenuity2 (which you use anyway) > Innovation > Byregot's > CS2x3, this also takes 50 durability for the complete progress and costs only 52 CP for the progress cost (Steady Hand is 22CP and Piece by Piece is 15CP twice) since the Ing2 already being use for Byregot's is also being used for progress and no additional cost.

Using this you will always be able to finish using Ingenuity 2 without relying on Tricks of the trade because of the saved CP.

This rotation looks terrible to me. Do you really only use 9 hasty touches, or is it dependent on good procs? 9 hasty touches, even if they all succeed, is not enough to HQ 3-star with NQ materials, and using all HQ materials is a waste of gil and unnecessary.

I did it once, not summoning bell but some other one with the same difficulty, first time on a craft and forgot to set PbP. Was rough. Never again.
