This is something that people have been talking about on the other fan sites.
I personally think there needs to be some adjustments to certain mobs and not anything and everything.
So what mobs need a body boost and which don't?

The smallest ones like marmots were a little too small and were a pain to target.
but some of the bigger ones didnt really need to be made bigger, I wonder how all of this looks to a lalafell
Yeah I gotta agree, some of the mobs are to big now. Poor Lalafell just hit below the food chain now under marmots. At that point, they gotta be to big. Well for now targeting is not a issue, but if they come up with a better targeting system maybe they will revert, or reduce the size.
I do enjoy being able to see all of the details on the monsters i didn't before. I do agree that discretion is necessary however. And not all mobs need all changes.
I think they're fine but DODO'S 3D MODELS LOOK REALLY STRETCHED they look like their texture quality is a complete mis-match with the rest of the world.
The resizing of small mobs I am ok with some mobs just are looking horribly out of proportion.
Dodos, Skellys, wolves, and the leve monster size puks need to be taken back to their old size. In my opinion it just does not look right.
Good questions. Many of the mobs were too small, but now they are too big. I think a compromise somewhere between the two would seem better.
I don't like man-sized bugs or toads the size of a house.
Nothing is more satisfying to me than falling a big monster, but some creatures just weren't meant to be big. I do agree that some of the models were just too small but now some of them are a bit too big... Why not just implement more intimidating creatures sooner? (Drakes, Peistes, Morbols, etc...)
I hated in XI how they repeated the same monsters you fought from the beginning all the way up into the higher levels... Hope SE is mindful of this.
They made some of the mobs way too big like the puk. The Dream Toad was already big, but they had to make it bigger and in Gridania, just looks like it doesn't belong with the small paths
So you would have rather had 2 mob types per any given level range everywhere in the world? How fun.
There were always dozens of monster types to fight, but the players chose to fight the same ones all the way up to level cap. The fauna would be too homogenized if they only used new monster types for a certain level range, and that would be boring.
The same will happen here, because doing it any other way is simply dumb. However, this time they can actually nudge us a bit to fight more varied monsters, and not let us decide (because we would end up fighting the same mobs all over again).
I agree with many that some of the increases in sizes are a bit much.. But some others I think were great.
It's nice being able to see the detail clearer, and it is a nice plus for killing the larger ones.
I definitely agree that some mobs were made way too big!
Chigoes, Dodos, Puks, Wolves, Marmots (they could be a little smaller), and Skeletons
I mean the skeletons are way larger than us, and the chigoes are monsters, Dodo's are larger than Antelope, and the Levequest Wolves look like Horses! They should revert the size of those mobs I think.
I think making them bigger (escpecially the small ones) was a good idea, but they definitively went overboard with it.
Final Fantasy XIV is a realistic looking fantasy game. Huge looking enemys look somehow weird... they dont realy match.
Also i realy dont like it, when simpel things are forced to look more epic.
Fighting enemys should feel epic and not look like it!
I think square just ran a macro or something that made everything bigger.. Some things are better.. Marmots, Mushroms, Coblyns.. I agree with the above post, nothing is more satisfying than fighting big mobs.. But especially the mob families ported over from FFXI, they should stay the same size.. Cactuars, etc..
Add more mob families to break up some of the shit in there!
FFXI's starting areas, Gustaberg as the example had Worms, Wasps, Goblins, Quadav, Saplings, Birds and Lizards to fight 1-10! We got Marmots, Dodo's and Coblyns!!
Mob size topic number 5! but I think the mob sizes are fine, I like seeing gnats bigger than Buicks o.o
I almost feel like i'm playing in the monster hunter world where all the animals are gigantic.
Perhaps if SE did nothing to help assist with targeting, the larger monsters would be better appreciated. However, they did add in a way of specifying a target when using tab, the ability to click on an enemy's name to target it, and even larger enemy and character names, which in turn makes enemy size irrelevant to how easy it is to target; it's now a piece of cake to target anything. With these changes, almost every enemy in the game is now unrealistically over sized, with Dodos being taller than the tallest Elezen, and a simple Wharf Rat being a towering behemoth to a Lala'fell.
I'm hoping that Square-Enix will listen to the players in this issue, and revert the size changes that are no longer necessary thanks to the targeting changes they've added in.
Cactuars are oversized and there detail looks awful, I like the mini cacturs, running about and spraying 1000 needles my way, ok maybe not the last part but they shouldnt be bigger than my lalafell :(
'Got to admit, I'm iffy on the new sizes.. I mean, yes, some could have stood to be a little bigger.. but, marmots? Well, maybe a bit, but I feel like I'm scuffling with a bear cub now. And let's not start on the already large monsters..
I really think they may have over-done it a bit.. especially with Cactuar. Those have gone from 'Aw, how cu- OH GOD NEEDLES' to .. well, kinda bland. Definitely they lost something alright.
But all said, in the end, I hardly felt it was at all necessary in the first place.
I agree, the mobs are too big now. Tbh I thought they were fine the way they were before the change, but I guess I can live with how the marmots and squirrels look now. Not with the rest though, it kills the immersion.
As it was said a few posts above, targeting is not as bad as it was before and I've never felt like the mobs were too hard to target. I only play with my keyboard though.
Those toads freaked me out already, now they're terrifying D:
Marmots are a form of squirrels. I don't think I've ever seen a squirrel the size of a badger, or a small bear before. Their size now is just horrifying. I don't understand why they're as large as they are now, what with the new targeting system.
You can't complain that the targeting them now is difficult, as we now have A.) A filter, and B.) The ability to target anything by clicking on their name. The resizing of small mobs was pointless.
They look like they just hit /big all enter, and bam! The Imps dont need to be as big as they are certainly.
Its BLOODY SCARY! it is
Everything is huge and amazing and makes fights so fun in first person mode.
However I find in 1stperson I cannot always tell what actions are working or not because casting effects are faint.
But its fun fighting an ogre leg like that up close and personal
They only needed to increase the size of some of the land creatures that were extremely small, IE rats and marmots. All of the other monsters looked good to me.
I have to concur on that one. As I'm mostly using a controller to target stuff, I was quite afraid with the change in size of mobs when the team announced it, but then again I was hoping it could come out smooth somehow. Now it pains me to say that I was right to fear. Not a day goes by without me going all OMG on an encounter with a ridiculous steroid-sized-whatever. Oh, so you're a Dwarf Rat. You sure of that? Lucky ladybugs? No thanks, i'm not touching that.
Well you get my point, I'm not going into a detailed list. To sum it up, large funny-looking things may be the norm in some other games (no, I won't name), but something feels really broken here.
I wouldn't mind the ginormous mobs if Tokka and Rahzar were in there somewhere...sadly though, they are not, so I hate the ginormous mobs.
* Dreamtoads - Way to Massive. (Holy Cr@p!?)
* Chigoe Mobs - a bit too big. (looks like a lalafell mount)
* Dodo's - a bit too big.
* Puks - Was perfect size before change.
* Coblyns - a bit too big.
* Gnats - Looks like they running on some bad crack, hoovering in slow motion.
When i requested bigger mobs late december i meant massive Wyrms / Behemoths etc, not a big fat toad lol.
It surely is impressivly Monsterous but wow... thats oversized.
Oh yeah, I didn't want to make the list, but I forgot the damned CHIGOES. Yuck, those things are gross. But hey, I guess that's what you get when asking for big mobs without explaining what you mean :p
I mean come on, we all knew the massive mobs were coming at some point, there was no need asking for it. Now everything is massive. Nice job!
I don't mean to start a flame war, but you gotta be careful what you ask for these days...
