Aint getting new races before the expansion so no way its soon.
I don't think it's out of the question actually...if you get through all the cutscenes you learn about a certain...'organization' in Limsa (not gonna say more b/c of spoilers obviously), but their clothes/color/weapons are all screaming a certain job.
If I made a massively multiplayer online role-playing game I'd do it for the sole purpose of being able to tease countless peeps (no sarcasm).
I'd be very surprised if we get new classes before the expansion, so expect to wait at least 6 months.
Well this is year 1 of 2.X era so we only have to wait 1 more year before 1st expansion since it is 1 expansion per 2 years.
just got to wait until we reach 2.5 or 2.6 (3 months per Major update) before SE start announcing 1st expansion.
So we are only 3 or 4 Major updates away with each Major Update teasing more about 1st expansion contents.
It is still nice they finally revealed Scout class combat style (Combat stance and some skills) and lore.
You guys actually forgot? Yoshi said they will release new classes/jobs in patches. I bet 2.4 will come with some.
Yoshi did say at least one new job before the expansion. That of course could change, and I haven't done any of the story missions yet but I've been told about the strong hints for these. If thf/nin/asn/whatever is coming, it's probably going to come off another class. So it's entirely possible that during one of these patches a new class would be added that branches off into two classes in the way acn does.
Believe it or not, Thief coming from Gladiator actually seems plausible in MANY ways.
First is that both Thancred and Raubahn wield Gladiator-based weapons (Dagger in the case of the former, Sword in the case of the latter).
Second is based off of the fact that Gladiator as a whole is a class notorious for hate gain. Yet most XI vets here seem to be overlooking (surprisingly enough) the one thing that Thieves in XI use quite regularly - Trick Attack! If Gladiators exist to generate hate, then Thief takes advantage of that, and with one of their job skills (most likely gained at 30, to supplement the Paladin's lack of Shield Oath at that time) re-directs said hate onto whatever class at present is tanking. SATA, the staple of any good Thief in XI, is something that naturally would be a no brainer transition from Vana'diel to Eorzea (and how the XI vets didn't think about this first is, quite frankly, beyond me).
Thirdly, remember that Yoshi-P said that he wanted to combine jobs to make a totally unique job. Well, as it turns out, Thief is capable of acting as the base in that calculation. Think - what's the one other class that's Far-Eastern, dual-wields, and has something Ninja-esque about them?
Monk.
The key point stated constantly in the Monk questlines is "Chakra", which really just a fancy name the Ala Mhigans gave to the seven vital points of the body (where aether would be the most concentrated). Ninja, whether fictional or otherwise, are masters of exploiting these seven points on the body (whether their own or someone else's). So Ninja could use these "Chakra" points to accelerate/decelerate the aetheric flow in their bodies to, say, predict an oncoming attack (Utsusemi) or make their steps lighter than a feather (Monomi). This is only a small example, but the concept still works in theory (and on paper).
From the above example, we can also add a couple of other compound jobs capable of being created from this equation: Red Mage (Black Mage + White Mage, Inquisitor-esque magic user smiting demons with holy power AND black magic), Dark Knight (Warrior + Dragoon, both struggle with an unruly power - the former being their own anger and rage, the latter being the anger and rage of an unholy fiend AKA dragon), Necromancer (Black Mage + Summoner, former dealing with abyssal powers and latter dealing with giving form to aetheric beings - both manipulating chaotic forms of aether).
P.S. This is the only post I am afforded today, so don't expect a reply very quickly.
Teasing the new race like that is okay, imho.
Yet teasing the new classes/jobs like they have? No please that's just wrong.
Personally they should tell us what job/classes we are getting but tease the abilities as to get us hyped for them. Which is the portion they got right.
I don't see GLA getting Thief considering that it is still possible to introduce a new class that use Dual Daggers that goes into Thief and/or Ninja which is what Scout class is mentioned to be.
NPCs are also adventurers themselves and can change their classes like our characters. Another thing this is that the Main NPCs in the Storyline are not Jobs but simple Classes so Thancred can easily have access to his own set of Cross-skills from Scout class when he switched to Gladiator. None of the Scions are Jobs but classes being that Thancred is a Gladiator (but can change to Scout class if he wants to like any adventurer with their class system), Yda is a Pugulist, Papalymo is a Theumaturge, Y'shtola is a Conjurer, and Urianger is a Arcanist.
Currently now we can't assume the introduction of the Scout class would mean much until farther details are provided. Yoshi-P has already stated many things that can change certain factors such as how Furture Jobs will have more serious effects on classes than current Jobs such as the example he mentioned that IF GLA obtains Dark knight as its 2nd Job, GLA skills will be adjusted to suit Dark Knights role as a DPS and Dark Knight theme such as the Tank combo being changed into a DPS combo and Flash (AoE Enmity skill) being replaced by Darkness (AoE Damage skill).
In an example that YoshiP stated, Thief would be a Class if implemented, so it wouldn't stem from Gladiator. Also the two would have completely different attack animations, so there wouldn't be any way for a Dual wielding dagger user such as Thief to spawn off of a Sword and Shield using Gladiator as the animations wouldn't match up for the base attacks.
Dark Knight was also brought up as an example as a DPS variation for Gladiator as a future job.
Jobs already are forced to stem off classes. Since Jobs can't exist in FFXIV without a proper class, basing a new job set off of existing Jobs is inaccurate. It would then be based off of four classes. If you had to have Black Mage and White Mage for Red Mage (i have never seen this said in any interview or Live letter so don't really know how credible the source was), then your requirements are Level 30 Thaumaturge, Level 30 Conjurer, Level 15 Pugilist, and Level 15 Archer. This is based off of current Job requirements. If its higher, then Lv xx Thaumaturge, Lv xx Conjurer, Lv xx Archer, Lv xx Pugilist.
Right... note to self: remember that Yoshida's not as craven as to take the easy way out and re-use assests currently present for the mere sake of doing so (I mean, I am guilty of suspecting Yoshida would never get Soken to make an original piece for Leviathan and instead just steal one from 1.0, like he did with Diabolos and "Wrath of the Eikons").
tl;dr I need to stop underestimating Yoshida's creative ability (or just underestimating people in general). It's going to be the end of me one of these days.
ASN? Teasing us with Asians?
Assassin XD
SIN would be kinda odd since the abbreviations usually incorporate the first letter and then two other key letters to help differentiate it from others. Though Assassin and Ninja are a little too similar as All Ninjas are trained to be assassins by nature. Their fighting styles would also be identical with shadowy stealth attacks and possible status En like spells/abilities (something similar to Bravery Default's Sword Magic but with status and DoT like effects.)
Could always go trick management though, Smoke Bomb evasive dodge or poison bomb DoT Poison damage.
All would be extending of the "THF" class though.
They also tease us with Beastmaster in Brayflox HM. That unusual Gobbie among the trash mobs before the final boss there...
Interesting stretch...but now that it was mentioned...I hate that Gobbie...All 4 of us had never ran that dungeon and couldn't figure out where the hell those Gobbie Pelicans were coming from XD
Found the little buggar while he had like three of them left with him as well as 2 other gobbies. >=O
That dungeon was so much fun though. 10/10 recommend friend XD
If you look at the retainer venture threads on various forums you'll see they already gave us thief. Someone in my FC had their retainer "find" a manor couch today.
I can't handle it anymore!
Oh ya that part....
Ya most likely the new classes will be given their 2 Jobs a head of the current classes. However, if lucky we may see some of the current classes get their 2nd Jobs as well when new classes are released since they may have all their corss-class and lvl 15 requirements in the game by then such as Archer's 2nd Job may need Musketeer class before it can be added into the game.
At the same time, there isn't any reason why a new Class can't be incorporated with just one job. If we get Thief and Ninja before Dark Knight or Red Mage as existing jobs for other classes, Thief could still just have Ninja until a much later point. They don't have to add more classes to add jobs to existing classes either. Dark Knight can be Gladiator/Arcanist with changes to Aetherflow and GLD skills to do more DPS and allow DRK draining abilities. Some jobs changed their secondary class from Beta testing to release. Some places had incorrect information because of this. RDM can stem as a healer from THM using CJN as the second or be a DPS role from CJN with THM as the secondary if they wanted.
Its not so much a matter of, we don't have anything good enough yet, as it is lets wait and see how testing turns out in terms of balance with current roles. Tank -> DPS, Healer -> DPS, Healer -> Tank and DPS -> Tank.
New classes are a little more lenient with adding as they don't have to be suffocated with pre-class lore watering it down and have more maneuverability while being developed. Then you just tack on a complementing job~
Arcanist got 2 jobs at the start to test the hybrid waters. Arcanist is a hybrid. If you know what you are doing you can properly tank for short bursts of time, be an effective healer, or give out ample amounts of DPS. While we're capable of doing all three, we're easily outclassed by any of the others with specific fields, THM, CJN, GLD.
I presume a thf class will be added before expansion at this point if not they would have said the organization was in another city and not in Limsa.
That doesn't really mean it would be before the expansion. By the same logic, Musketeer would have been available by now because its guild is also in Limsa Lominsa since 2.0. We could get it like three patches after the expansion, in the next patch, with the expansion, or with the second expansion.
It has not yet been mentioned that we are getting a Level Cap Increase nor has it been said we are getting more skills this coming Expansion. All we know is that the theme is "1000 Year War" and that we will have a new race in Eorzea. Though now I don't explicitly recall them saying "Playable race" so we just may have another Padjal in our midst.
They shouldn't just add DPS classes, we need more tanks first and foremost. We need melee dps like a fish needs a bicycle. Obviously they need a stealthy addition at some point, and thf is a beloved class/job.
Musketeer seems like it has been "on deck" and is next.
Where are the tanks and healers going to come from? Plz no Ninja tanks! Samurai tanks are welcome though ;)
I think most people who've played cnj can see geomancer as the next job for it... Acn alread has two jobs. New healer job will have to come from a new healer class?
This is all in your head and it makes you sound stupid.
I believe at a later date he mentioned that they now expected new jobs/classes to come WITH the expansion.
Well each class will have 2 jobs to branch into.
Musketeer can easily get 1 DPS Job being a Gunner job and 1 Healer Job being a Combat Medic type job like Chemist or Machinist as a tech type healer.
Scout can obtain 1 DPS Job and 1 Tank Job as well.
Only mentioned is that expansion will have 1 new race, level cap increase, and new Class/job skills.
It is expected to have new classes/jobs in the 1st expansion as well but that does not mean he is only place new classes/jobs in expansions only since Yoshi-P can easily just release the Class guild and Job NPC in 1st expansion but hold them back until 3.X Major Update to actually unlock those new classes and Jobs because they are not ready yet.
