The emote needs to be renamed to fit the action as fume suggests anger where as the action expresses dissapointment.
There are a ton of these. I'd love to see a few of these actions renamed, or their emotes reworded. I keep accidentally agreeing with people for trying to thumbs up them. I mean, it's an affirmative, sure.... but ascent doesn't come to mind quickly.
And I still say "sprightly" is the wrong word in "XXX dances sprightly for YYY". . .
In the japanese forum there is a dev confirmation that they will be fixing emotes not matching actions on the Japanese end, it is not confirmed if they will be fixing this for any other language. If they are, hopefully they'll choose this thread to translate the dev post ^^
With the benefit of hindsight, we aren't crazy about /fume either, and have been leaning towards changing it to something a bit fouler and much more fun to type. We've been kicking around a few ideas (like /damnit), but have to run them by some people to make sure they are allowed under the game's current rating. Hence the late reply to this thread. Soz for that! :(
Unfortunately, it's too late to sneak this or any other emote changes into 1.18. The UI team has informed us, however, that we should be able to tweak emotes as much as we like in 1.19. Until then, I can only /ask that you /grin and /bearit... (crickets chirping) I... I'm sorry.
Feel free to post any other suggestions you have for emote commands or emote-related log text. We consider emotes to be extremely important, as they are often the primary means of communication between players in different regions, and so we are always amenable to improving their clarity wherever possible.
Duly noted!
lol /damnit. This would be something new/fun to see in an MMO. It really matches it's motion too hah
Hey Eemeefu,
I have a few things for emotes I would like to see, maybe some others would agree with me. I would like to have a /sigh emote for those times when you just need to... well sigh. Someone is taking forever to come so you can target them and sigh. Another one is /smile. It was always nice in FFXI to exchange a warm smile with a jp player or a friend. I really don't have emotes currently to fill these gaps. There is /stagger but it's just not a /sigh.
A personal Roegadyn request though... could you possibly have them create a Roegadyn wave that is less ridiculous. The Roegadyn wave is more like a LOOT AT ME OMG.. sometimes I just want to toss someone a simple wave.
Thanks for reading :)
One of the things I don't like about the emotes is the disconnect between the command and the text in the log.
For example, /yes makes you nod in the chat log, and that's rather unintuitive since you'd think that you'd have to type in /nod to get that action.
/no makes you "disagree with someone, whereas /yes makes you "nod", and /thumbsup makes you "agree wholeheartedly".
Considering the text that appears when you do /no, it would seem that /yes should make you "agree wholeheartedly".
I always thought the /angry emote seemed more like a /sigh and that maybe /thumbsup could be shortened to /like.
Today I had a glitch during a leve run, after I signed back in from D/Cing, and I couldn't receive or send /party or /linksell messages. I couldn't inform them to wait for me to figure something out before linking leves and I was hoping I could use an emote called /wait to express someone to hold on a sec or something due to language/communication barriers.
Also, chocobo emotes in 1.19 would be AWESOME!!!! KWEH!!!
We definitely need a /slap emote.
D:<
One thing that really bugs me is the /sit emote.
In FFXI, after sitting down by using the /sit emote, you could stand back up simply by moving the analogue stick on your controller or pressing the movement keys on your keyboard. But in FFXIV, this convenience is stripped away from us, and instead we're forced to type /sit again if we want to stand back up.
Please change FFXIV's /sit emote to work more like FFXI's /sit emote!
Here's a vote for /damnit
When cast on self should be something like "Well I'll be damned.."
Here's a few:
/breakdance
"[character name] came to get down, so get out your seats and jump around. Jump around, jump up and get down. Jump around."
/kfc
"[character name] pulls out a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chocobo, and starts munching contentedly on a juicy leg piece..."
/explode
"[character name] suddenly explodes in a fiery burst, leaving behind a small pile of ash..."
/loseallgriponreality
"[character name] puts on a tinfoil hat and starts rambling incoherently. The words are difficult to make out, but you think you hear him/her mumble something about little grey men and how the government is watching us with little cameras hidden in our cereal..."
/becomeakitty
"[character name] has become a kitty! =^_^="
/redmage
"[character name] jumps into the sky and flies away."
/jpbutton
"[character name] claims NM, gets gil, makes HQ, becomes stronger, and gets drop."
/chilicheese
"[character name] believes in the heart of cards and claims Salad NM to get Crouton drop."
/lifebeltgloves
"[character name] ponders the nature of the mysterious Life Belt, wondering if, perhaps, it might be a pair of gloves..."
/dowekitefaust
[character name] says, "Hey guys, this is potato. I'm a galka rdm/smn, the only viable subjob for rdm because of autorefresh and garuda (holy s*** she has big t*****). Anyways, I was wondering, I'm in a superdy cool hnmlmnos and I was wondering how do you fight faust, do you kite him or something?"
/lolbifrons
"[character name] summons Tempyst to dump french fries on the head of a legendary mob..."
/pandemoniumwarden
"[character name] spends 18 solid hours fighting against an unreasonably difficult boss and loses."
/wow
"[character name] logs off to go play a better MMO..."
/hug and /kiss? Self explanatory.
As a female player, playing a female hyur character I feel slightly embarrassed at the over exaggerated and often not feminine emote set that's attached to my race. Perhaps it's a cultural disconnect, but when I emote I don't feel girly and cute like a lala or miquote which I'm often jealous of their animation. Rather, I feel like some sort of wildly motioning loon.
I'm sure its been aforementioned elsewhere, but the "meh" emote would be better aptly named "huh".
Some new emote's I would love to see:
-Slap
-hug or kiss (blow a kiss? Would be funny on a bulky roegadyn)
-face palm
Well, I'll be the party pooper, I'd rather not see /damnit. I don't speak that way, and it doesn't fit the elegance I usually see in FF games either, imo. Barret and other few uncouth characters nonwithstanding.
This Roegadyn speaks of important business! I lost count of how often I actually typed /sigh and nothing happened. It's probably my most used emote in XI and I'm sure it would be the same in XIV. The /smile is something I missed a few times as well, so I'd definitely sign for both of them.
One other emote I used quite a bit in XI is a simple /nod. Sure, in XIV I can always use /yes, and the text even says "You nod to [target]". But the animation and voice looks more like "You agree with [target]", whereas sometimes I only want to nod as kind of a greeting or so. What I'd suggest is:
/yes = "You agree with [target]."
/nod = "You nod to [target]."
I'm not sure how much influence you localization folks have on adding new emotes, but I really hope that one fine day at least the /sigh will return!
I always try typing /molest and /eviscerate but sadly, those never work :(
Ive always wanted a /Thanks or /Thankyou emote.
Thumbups works, kind of, but isnt quite it.
/fume should be changed to /tantrum
/silly emote would be nice too, randomly picks from 5 silly joke/motions
Pleeeeease can we have /grin
/shun <Yes please>
Shun the non believers! Shunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
A lot of great suggestions here. I would also like to see the following dramatic change:
In XI, emotes could be performed while running. There'd be no animation, but at least it would show in the chatlog.
I know it would be a significant amount of work, but it would add *SO* much to the immersion *AFTER ALL THE OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF IS DONE* if running/riding emotes were available.
I would love to be able to see someone wave as they run by, and actually see the waving action.
If not running emotes, at least riding emotes would be great, and would require much less work.
i wanna see a /rage emote ^^
I definitely miss /sigh, /slap, /smile and a few others from XI. I use emotes alot!
My thought on /fume: I liked it because it was short and I knew what it was for. The emotes in XIV, I gotta remember what the chat said to pick the closest one, even then, most times they don't fit. So you see me doing a few emotes in a row just to get the right one and then I just look lost... {/think}
I wouldn't mind seeing multiple dance options as well, like they later implemented in XI due to dancer. Also... "...dances sprightly..." just... no. Just doesn't work lol. Especially for elezen... they certainly don't look like they are dancing 'sprightly' :P
I like the /thank or /thankyou idea, but atleast we have an auto translate for that and /bow.
/spank, /kiss, /hug, /bighug, /biggerhug, /bearhug...... /grouphug
I'm really happy to hear they are going to edit the emotes and I love /damnit haha. Since this looks like the right place for it I'll just make a short list of all the emotes that have unusual text aligned with them for the devs and add a few of the ones I always type and forget aren't actually in the game:
- /angry = "You are frustrated" (maybe something like /bah would be more in tune with this text?)
- /doubt (I'm a miqo'te so this could just be my emote just looks like angry pointing, not so much doubt)
- /fume (already mentioned)
- /meh = "You look stumped" yet the menu says "Huh" (Coming from XI I'm extremely used to /huh = confused and to me personally 'meh' translates more to lack of caring than to be stumped)
- /upset = "You look disgusted" (Could just be me but I'd rather see this one split into a /upset and
- /disgust because the two emotions are pretty different and when you use it on a target it says "You look at the .... in disgust, this could easily convey the wrong message to someone haha)
- /beckon when used on another person says "You beckon to the..." shouldn't it just be "You beckon the..."?
After looking like an idiot for ten minutes using all the emotes on myself and a nearby bumble beetle that is all I could find. Personally I agree with the no/deny and yes/thumbs up only because I can't think of anything better.
As for additions: (these are mostly XI-favorites)
- /huh for confused
- /smile
- /grin for 'roguish' reasons
- /roundup or /gather because at first for /rally I was thinking my character would signal for everyone to gather together
- /sigh
- /slap
- /hurray
I'll try to edit in anything else I can think of and any prominent idea/emotes from this thread.
How could I ignore such an invitation? To the list!Thumbs Up: My first instinct to use the thumbs up like, "Nice job!" or "Nice gear!" or something along those lines. Accidentally agreeing wholeheartedly after someone kills a mob is awkward; [Player] defeats Dodore! Anonymoose thinks so, too! (Which, of course, makes it official.) Rewording thumbs up, or even creating a separate /agree emote would be nice. Come to think of it, when I created my player, why did he thumbs up me? Was my avatar like, "I agree, Moose, this looks like me."
Changes to Existing Emotes
Fume: I don't fume when I'm disappointed, and I often am not disappointed when I fume. We already have /angry and /furious for that, however. On top of this, to fume is often defined with the word "Vexation," which is closer to being annoyed than disappointed. Personally, I think disappointment and annoyance both deserve emotes. Fume, though, just feels out place.
Upset: Some times I attempt to use the nonexistent /annoyed and end up falling back on /upset because /fume is really /disappointed and then when I realize that I just /disgusted someone, I have to apologize. I'm not /disgusted with you, I'm just /upset - you know, like /annoyed but not quite /angry, /furious, or what /fume sounds like it's trying to express, but isn't.
Wave (DUNESFOLK MALE): Why is the lalafell so happy to see people, when they're so apathetic that people are leaving? Personally, I have a "/goodbye motion" macro with "/em waves." after it so I don't have to look so silly. Take it down a notch, little lala.
Addition of Missing Emotes/slap This is more required now than it was in FFXI. I've been degraded to using "/sulk motion" macros to get some kicking action in, in the meantime.
/sigh It expresses so many emotions that I wouldn't get creative with it. A motion of the character sighing, an emote "[Player] sighs dejectedly." is all we need.
/grin I agree that this could use a comeback.
/stare [Player] stares blankly at <target>.
/facepalm I just read this higher up in the thread; put this at the very top of my wishlist. Like, higher than the word "WISHLIST." high on my wishlist.
/hurray
[name] gives a triumphant cry! (Character raises their weapon).
/toss
[name] throws something at [target].
/comfort
[name] consoles [target].
Yup, more from FFXI. Mostly I miss the motions associated with the acts.
I'd like to see /cheer reworked at least for Hyur. I'm sorry but Hyur gets the most lame /cheer out of the bunch :(
Well, since this derailed into a emote suggestion/feedback topic, lemme toss my 2 cents here ^^:
I'd like to see grin, show tongue, lick lips, wink, send kiss and some other facial only emotes. With the quality of facial expression this game has is a shame we not being able to use it!
I think I LOVE the idea of /facepalm.... action of hand to face, slight downturn of head, with a heavy sigh.
That and /slap I would use, like, EVERYDAY. srsly.
Bring back /SLAP I had to custom make mine
