Stop forcing people to do the story quests every time there's a new patch

Sick and tired of this crap. I do not play the game to RP with these boring quests. I got to 50, and that should be the end of boring, grindy and time consuming quests.

If you want people to follow the story, then this is not the way. I literally have no idea what's going on in the story because I don't care and you'll never be able to force me to read huge walls of text.

Just stop forcing people to do quests.

However, if not, I must ask why are you playing an MMORPG? You do know what the "RP" in "MMORPG" stands for, right?

Do the Hildibrand quests.

omgee!!! story lines in a video game! that's just insane! stop the presses! stop! the! presses!!! SE wants to keep developing the story line in FFXIV!! How dare they!

besides, you don't have to do the main story line. no one is forcing you. there's still plenty of new content to do that is completely unrelated to the main story quests. stop crying just because you don't like to read and can't follow a story.

I've played plenty of MMOs, and I've never played one where I've felt forced to do story quests after reaching max level.
For me, that's something I dislike and you bet I'll make a forum post about it.

Well this is how FFXIV works, so you should probably just cancel your sub now and save yourself from a WHOLE crap-load of disappointment.

I mean... you're playing a final fantasy game and asking that the game not revolve around final fantasy story quests. that's just awesome. people really do have complaints about every single thing in this game.

Quests are fine. Just not so many pointless ones like go here and the back over there

Eh, different strokes I suppose. I'm impressed that they extend the main scenario every 3 months. It's one of my favorite things about this game. Still, it's not like it's hard to fly through the text and not read anything or skip cut scenes. It's hardly a road block if you don't care at all for the story.

Just saying it should be optional. Don't really see that as a problem. If you're not interested, you're not going to pay attention anyway.

Obviously I'm not going to cancel my sub as I've been playing for 5 months. Just saying I don't care for the story, and honestly don't care much for FF as a whole either. Just sharing my 2 cents on something I don't like about the game. You don't have to agree:)

It's already optional. I don't know how more optional SE could make it. there's plenty to do without doing the main story quests.

Thankfully, for the most part it is optional. Outside of unlocking a few fights, the majority of the game content becomes available after completing "The Ultimate Weapon" quest of the 2.0 story.

That's all fine and well, but many people play this game because it's a Final Fantasy, a franchise mostly known for having very story-centric games. Asking them to take out the story is actually quite insulting and you may as well be asking the developers to turn this into a Diablo game with HD graphics so you can chase the next piece of gear every patch.

I actually did really enjoy the story line quests in XI. Who here remembers the airship fight? That was so intense and fun :D Kinda sad XIV doesn't have those battles anymore.

To have something to complain about, I suppose.

There are plenty of F2P games out there with thin elements of "plot" or "quests", so they should just go play those.

I think it's not about the fact that there is story, but that you are locked out of certain features if you do not do it. You can't use the duty finder roullete now if you don't do the former fully avoidable Hildibrand quest, for example.
It's not a roudblock of course, but such stuff is pretty annoying.

It's a Final Fantasy game....

You're not forced to do them. They're optional. If your account or character is unable to log on due to having not completed the most recent MSQ please contact the support desk.

Probably the OP's concern is not having Leviathan, Gilgamesh or the Roulette: Trials available unless they complete the story questline. I don't know what to suggest; perhaps do a little bit of it each day if you find the fetch quests too grinding.

I think it's more an issue that a majority of this patch's story quest felt like you didn't need to be there.

At all.

"Deliver this letter to THAT guy twenty feet away."

"Return my response."

"Follow me while I talk to this person while you just stand there and look adorable.(Miqote)"

"Follow me so I can go talk to them some more."

There was only one compelling moment of the story quest I enjoyed, and that was the interview with the children. Especially since it had them troll answers.

Yeah SE!!! And stop making me do dungeons for gear while your at it... I should get items based on how many times I log in!! And no more of this pressing buttons to attack, really this day in age I should be able to just think it and it happens!!!!

Can't believe you people made a MMORPG that makes me do things. Satanic it is!!!!!!!
