Retainer Congestion

Something needs to be done about the congestion of retainers within the market wards.

On my world, Lindblum, I tried to summon my retainer in every ward and could not.

This essentially means that I am not able to sell anything, which is fairly game breaking.

I am on the same server, and I ran into the same issue this weekend. It took me nearly an hour to summon both retainers in the MW to set up shop. The MW and for that matter the Behests cannot support a larger server population and deter more people from entering the game.

Please implement a functioning auction house.
Please allow Retainers to be summoned anywhere within the city, excluding 10’ radius around NPCs or doorways.

Were you trying to summon it in every ward in every city or every ward in Ul'dah? I'm going to guess it was just Ul'dah since that's how it is on Figaro too.

I think this has more to do with the fact that everyone migrates to Ul'dah and stays there (probably for the BW3 leves) so more and more people (and RMT/crystal sellers) decide to set up shop there too. If you put your retainer in the Gridania/Limsa wards you'll sell a heck of a lot slower than if you did in Ul'dah.

Edit: I'm not saying it's a perfect system and I agree it needs to be changed. Just saying that this is the reason it's clogged on our server because there's no good reason to go to the other cities at the moment.

They have had to notice this is a problem for at least 2 months now and yet they have done jack shit or provided a response w/ a upcoming solution. On Selbina for days i was not able to summon retainer until one day i got lucky in the clothiers row. Its apparent that at least 30-40% of retainers in some wards ARE RMT. Maybe the STF(Stupid Tard Farce) should start flingin these retainers in the trash or maybe they are really trying to ruin this game completely so we can all play there new MMO RMTville

If they can get players to spread a bit thinner across each nation, i would imagine this issue would improve greatly

Rendering every retainer won't work; the system is encountering problems now with ~1000 players per server. It's going to be a literal nightmare when the game gets more popular, if at all. They need to make everything happen from a window interface and get rid of rendering retainers and ward zones.

Yea i think so too.

Ul'dah wards is cluttered on Gyshal. I made the mistake of moving my retainers for couple hours, now i have to remember to run to the bell to summon.

Man, the hate here wants me to laser someone =)

Anyway, they told that they're gonna do things in order to promote Limsa Lominsa's and Gridania's population, and they told us that they're going to do, for example, Guild Marks only for the place where your guild is, Promoting the non-failing of the leves so the BW3 will be no more and Adding more guilds in the other cities (remember that Limsa has the "Arcanists" and the Musketeers).

Just give it some time =)

Also yes, I suppose the practical solution is to place one's retainers in other cities, if the aim is to get it up and listed somewhere. But generally nobody likes the other cities and a good majority (or plurality, w/e) congregate in Ul'Dah. Ul'Dah is where you are most likely to find your customer base at this point. Listing in another city almost guarantees obscurity sadly. The band-aid solution to this I suppose, Wolfie's larger fully conceived permanent solution aside, would be to have the item search function open up to a menu before the ward menu shows up allowing you to choose which city you want to search in, no matter which city you are currently in (ie. global searches of a sort). At least then no matter where you were forced to list your retainer, your customer will at the very least be able to find you, and if they so choose and your prices are reasonable, they may well venture out to you in the middle of nowhere (Gridania) to buy from your retainer.

It's one thing for someone to see your listed retainer in a different city and choose not to bother coming out there (I probably wouldn't), at the very least the option(s) was/were presented to that person in an accessible and visible way. One can't really do more than offer. It's another thing entirely to never have been seen at all because you were forced to list somewhere nobody cares to go or will practically never even think to look.

Also, a dev commented in another similar thread that they play on alleviating congestion in the market wards by doing two things.

1.) Increasing the amount of retainers you can summon per ward. (Making them even more cramped and laggy/prone to crashing I'm sure.)

2.) Retainers will now be ejected from the Market Ward when it has reached capacity and a new retainer is summoned. (Do I really even need to say what a horrible decision this is? >_>)

SEs way of fixing things. Make it bigger, then limit it's usefulness.

It's one of those things that make me facehoof. Best case scenario, it frees up retainers that have no items and possibly pisses some people off because they lose their spot. Average and worst case scenario, it either kicks out someone with a legitimate retainer trying to sell items, or does nothing because there are no empty retainers to be kicked out.

Yep I am on Lindblum and have same problem, I have not been able to summon my second retainer in the wards for a while now. As such I have felt i have had to price an object at 999,999,999 just so that the one retainer I have in the wards will never leave for fear that I will not be able to get one back in. I know that by doing what I have done is in no way helping the situation but it is the only way I can be sure I will be able to sell my goods.

These proposed fixes are about as helpful as SE threatening to poke people in the eye with a stick if they list their retainers in the hope that a certain percentage will no longer use the wards for fear of losing an eye.

It's a little sad that sometimes their player base (beacons of light in a dense fog like Wolfie) come up with better solutions in their sleep than these people do spending time, money, and probably one to many staff meetings planning out... What? Do they have a sign on the door to their conference room that reads "Leave your damn common sense at home where it belongs."
