If anything, I see plenty of opportunities for crafters in 2.2.
They can't kill crafting too much more... They have already crippled it, I make my money but not like I used to... Of course having all crafts on 50 also helps make cash
Well hopefully with the retainer help, i can level up fishing and Mining with out having it at 50, I just feel Culinary will get left out. Better have my fried Rice
How exactly would adding more recipes and more ways to get materials and more desire for flavor items with glamors screw crafters at all?
Hell, even the (now outdated) iLvl90 gear we'll probably get to make will probably see a good deal of use, it's not as if the echo buffs and new tomestone gear will suddenly allow bad players to survive all the instant wipe mechanics on even the current progression content.
Well I specified struggeling crafters. If your got perfect melds in all crafts your in a very actionable position. I was only inquiring on the divide between highly melded crafters and those of us like me who just got all to 50 with AF. That materia counts for alot.
So everyone in the game should have all AF crafting gear pentamelded? Sounds like a communist state.
So you want to be a successful crafter but dont want to have to meld your gear at all.... i think we just found your problem with your way of thinking. Think of it this way, you wanna be a racecar driver but all you want to use is a matchbox car. Sure, you got a car. but its nothing compared to an actual car.
You have to want to make it in the economy. not just have it handed to you. And FYI, 90% of my income is made off of non-2 stars. so you really dont even need uber gear to HQ most 1-45 crafts. Maybe people have this braindead notion of "OMG 2 stars! that will make me the most money!" Wrongo. I can sell 100-200k worth of other gear in the time it takes to sell one 2-star for 75k after all the undercutting is done.
edit: sure, i craft 2 stars as well, but i dont go out and buy the mats off the MB, i use philos since i dont have any other classes to gear :P
The concept of a "struggling crafter" in this game is perplexing to me. In this game, you can level ALL crafts to 50 in FAR less time and FAR more cheaply than it took to level a SINGLE craft to 100 in FFXI. Then, with all crafts at 50, it's easy to meld your own gear, and you'll probably have spiritbonded enough low-grade materia along the way to at least meet minimum requirements for 2-star crafting.
And, as was mentioned, it's dubious to assume that 2-star crafts are the best way to make money - philo tome ingreds are expensive, and that cuts heavily into your profit margins, whereas lower-level recipes sell for a lot less but are practically free to craft.
I'm not sure I follow. Even if you've just maxed your first craft, how could they make crafting any harder for you? If anything it's getting easier since you can make your retainer gather for you now. If you're having trouble making money, then look forward to the new mid level cosmetic gear that's sure to be a hot seller for a while.
It sounds sort of like a fresh 50 complaining that adding stuff like Leviathan is unfair to them because they can't do it yet. Just like combat jobs you're expected to build up your repertoire of skills and gear over time.
With the glamour system and a bunch of new recipes for vanity gear I imagine it will actually give crafters a boost. I am not sure how the mastercraft system will work but it has been obliquely implied that there will be a set of craft able gear to segue between the current i90 and the new coil gear. All the signs I've seen actually point to more life for crafters.
Struggling....to faceroll? What the ***?!
On my server, the 2 stars sell on the MB about 1 a day each. There are so many crafted items that sell much faster than that on the MB, with a decent profit. It's not hard to pull in 20k/day just by logging in for half an hour to craft and restock retainer sell slots, and that's not including the 4k/day you can get from 20 minutes doing beast dailies, plus another ~2k from spending 20 minutes gathering a solo map and digging it up. That's easily 200k per week for about an hour a day.
What exactly is the OP spending gil on to barely make ends meet? There's nothing for me to spend gil on except crafting materials, and I make at least 100k per week profit, without doing daily beast quests.
2.2 crafting / gathering changes have been posted. Check it out.
Its not the crafts that are struggling. I think its more of the player's ability to play the market with his/her crafts that is a bit lacking...
Should I even mention that the 'advanced' recipes are excruciatingly hard to craft even if you happen to be insanely well geared? Should I venture the fact that we need to sink exhaustive amounts of gil into getting to the stage where we can even ATTEMPT to craft them, let alone actually complete them with any degree of success? Yes, crafters got the shaft with this update. It's a fact.
New recipes, but at the cost of over 112,500 seals in materials. New tools, but at the cost of over 50 HQ 40-durability items. New headgear, except that too requires more HQ 40-durability items. The costs are prohibitive to say the least. It's pretty fair to say that if you were struggling pre 2.2 you're well and truly screwed with this latest foray.
Right, focus on the highest tier of crafting, ignore the rest of the economy, and claim everyone else is screwed. Let's all ignore how prices on crafting materia have skyrocketed, as have philo mats. Let's ignore how demand for crafter gear has skyrocketed as a result of needing more materia. Let's ignore how the prices on all the mats used in the 3 star crafts have also skyrocketed.
People like you who tunnel vision on just one part of the market are the ones who fail at making any sort of money. If you're unwilling to adapt to the market changes, well, QQ more, maybe someone will feel pity for you and hand over a few thousand gil.
I'm really confused here... half your argument is practically agreeing that crafters are screwed, the other half suddenly claims that you can make gil from all of that expense? Did you read your own post?
Prices on crafting materia have skyrocketed. That's bad for anyone who actually needs extra melds to get anywhere with the new recipes. The price of Philo matws has increased... materials which, I might add we crafters RELY on to actually get anywhere with most of the new recipes. So, exactly where are we supposed to make gil? The high-end of the crafting market has ALWAYS been the area where the gil is. Almost no one buys low level equipment, and the 'glamor' equips are all high end themselves, many of which requiring master recipe books and expensive ingredients.
Pre 2.2, the main selling point of crafts was the level 70 gear, and to a far lesser extent the lvl 55 weapons since they're a prerequisite for relic. Culinarian is the only real craft to make gil outside of rare philo mats. I make more gil selling the components for most recipes than I do on the final crafted piece in most cases. That's only been made worse with the number of NQ mats flooding the market as people sell them off cheaply after failing to craft HQ for their master books.
Maybe you've found some lucky niche, or you're just wealthy enough to shrug it all off but don't pretend like this doesn't have a knock-on effect for people who might not have had a billion gil to sink into their crafts to begin with.
Did you?
Your narrow mindedness only serves to prove my point. You seem to think that to make any sort of money, you need to unlock and craft the top tier stuff. You don't. Why? Because now, you can convert your cheap mid-tier gear/AFs into pricey materia and sell them to those who are trying to advance or have deep pockets. How is that screwing people? If their goal is to advance, then sure, but if their goal is to make gil, things couldn't become any easier now.Quote:

And again, more tunnel visioning. I haven't sold a single i70 craft, ever. Not once. Yet, I've made over 20 million over the course of 2.0 and 2.1. Not as good as some of the high rollers, of course, but there was gil to be had outside of top-tier crafts. No one simply bothers to look.Quote:

Or maybe I have better market sense than you.Quote:

I have a 50 weaver but i can't even hq 1 star lol!!
So i gave up went to play the market on day 1 of patch, made like 300-350k gil and the day after another 200k gil.
Then i proceeded to find a good weaver and have him make me a bunch of vanity stuff.
If u got the connections and gil, y care about the woes of crafting? :)
U pay them = they are happy
U get ur stuff = you r happy!
Win win !
